    First thing is that you don’t paint the inside valley as.this paint will peel off a street engine that cycles from hot to cold on the street The cam bearings should be the grooved ones from TA performance. The front & rear oil seals are available in neoprene not the old leak prone road seals. This block should have been true deck in order for proper & consistency in head gaskets seating The issue with the aluminum front cover is maintaining proper oil pump gears clearance with the pump. The engine block & front cover expands at different rates causing low oil pressures when engine is running. In reality, Buick never dreamed that the 455 engine would be so popular outside of the regular Buick vehicle. The entry into the real Muscle Car line with the 1970 GS Stage1 changed the ball game forever.

    What no roller cam??? Maybe next time!!

  • @robertcoomer6395

    Every engine oil pump is crank driven or driven by the camshaft and of coarse it turns faster as the engines rpm increases And also you just lost 10 hp with that stupid rope seal.

    👍It's a shame this channel didn't keep going. Really enjoyed the BUICK 455 videos. Great engineers back in the day and I sure wish GM would bring them back! (Old school) Love old BUICK however, I'll continue to build my 'SB' Chevy 400's & kick everyone's butt that thinks they can take it. 🇺🇸 Get BACK on this channel man! Ya had a decent thing going. ✌️

    The highest hp / tq rating was in 1970 with 360 hp / 510 tq. The 1971 is rated in gross hp/tq. Also, distributor ignition timing is different from camshaft installed timing. Please don’t forget it. This person goes off on bs talking. TA sells all the parts needed including shorty headers. These heads should have been torqued in a specific tightening sequence. The intake tightening sequence is specific. The factory exhaust manifolds came out very nice. They should have been ceramic coated to keep the original color.

    Bro, I had a machine-shopped forged and gusseted motor with the oil modded 455 with stage 2 aluminum heads that were ported and bench flowed, with a 900 cfm demon carb that flowed 670 hp. And 780 ft. Lbs. of torque........I ran 9.85 at thunder valley in Oklahoma....... Sold that car in 10 minutes 17,000.00$.....wish i still had it........

    You covered the importance of proper surface preparation before glyptal application and I totally agree. Unfortunately many people are in too big of a hurry or just plain lazy to do things properly no matter if it’s coating preparation or setting critical clearances. The results become obvious either at initial start up or after a short period of run time. I use Glyptal internally on most rough cast iron surfaces because of the numerous advantages and never had any problems. I would welcome any comments with details about why Glyptal should not be used. I appreciate your efforts to help others in your video but in my opinion, it’s a little on the boring side. Your mileage may vary and in all certainty , your opinion will differ.

    I can't stand the oil pump set up on the Buick 455. Non priming pain in the ass. I guess that's literally why you need to have a jar of Vaseline handy when your working with one. For the pump and the ass fucking you get trying to prime the pump.

  • @gregg4164
    @gregg4164 6 лет назад

    With those external oil pumps you are almost guaranteed to wipe out the motor if you do not know what you are doing with them. The external pumps are notorious for not picking up a prime and holding it. You literally need to pack the entire oil pump gear assembly with Vaseline to help it pick up the oil and prime the pump. If you dont well, good luck.

    Loved these motors , I had a ‘71 Stage 1 stick car wished I never sold it. 1 problem is lifter galley not supported enough for solid roller cam, I have seen someone fill the valley with epoxy to support it for Super Stock. racing.

    Jim Burick from P.A.E. (no longer in business) used a 70's Ford style diff seal for the front main seal. I'm not sure of the part number but he even had a book of some of the tricks he used to improve the oiling system. The front seal was a something he did for most of his rebuilds.

    Thank you for posting this! This trick has been done so many times and by so many auto enthusiasts. Glyptal is available in white... which basically means it can be available in any color you want because you could tint it... but I wouldn't do that only because ALL of the still pictures you ever see of this stuff are Glyptal 1201 red. Glyptal 8746G is the name of the white product, but I can't find a non-industrial vendor, or enough info about it to know if it still has the same oleophobic or amphiphobic properties? Also, this video should have thousands of views. Perhaps adjusting your video tags might help it get found more easily? Very good description and testimonial reinforcement of all the things I've heard from the old-timers. :) b
