    Been watching a lot of these videos lately and am astonished at the violence as water rushes into compartments, the noises, parts being ripped off from the force of the water.

      The guys that placed the cameras for us were definitely solid divers, though they were NOT in the tug when it went down. Scary to imagine this happening say in the middle of the night!

      I don't know that it's been done, but safety would be a big concern as you never know if the future artificial reef will cooperate when it goes down. For this project, our team bolted GoPros in underwater housings onto various parts of the boat, turned them on, and then evacuated to the lead boat which was at a safe stand off distance. Not sure how well filming from another boat would work. There will be turbulence in the water created by the sinking boat. It'd be unsafe to have the lead boat too close. And, given that the amount of light starts to fall off dramatically after only about 6 feet or so underwater, it'd be a real challenge to get enough light for filming and clarity in the water to be able to see it all. Keep in mind, this is our best guess, as we only carried out the filming work. There are folks out there who specialize in reefing boats and ships and have greater experience in managing the work area when they create an artificial reef...and it is complicated. Hope that helps.

    Hi guys I love this video. I'm planning on diving there in August of this year. I have so many questions.First did all of you use dry suits? Can I get away with a wetsuit in August? Is it required to carry a pony? How good is the vis?

    • @frankstopa6270
      @frankstopa6270 2 года назад

      George, Thanks for your comments. We had folks on our team dive in wetsuits, but most of us were in drysuits. The wreck is at 110 feet and in June-July the water at the bottom was 43F. The lake is spring-fed, which means most of its water come from below and is warmed very little all year long. We had to get permission from NY State Department of Environmental Conservation to do the dives, but our charter boat captain arranged all that for us. I believe a stage bottle of pony of extra air are required. We all used AL40's. Most of us used O2 for decompression as we couldn't do all the survey-film work without going into deco. Still, plenty of recreational divers have dived the site in heavy wetsuits, stage bottles and stay within NDL. Hope you enjoy the diving. The Radeau is a small wreck, but it has a super cool history to it which makes for a great experience!

    Surah Mulk indexed with number 67, number of verses 30 1 Exalted is He, in Whose hand is all power, and He has power over all things. 2 He it is Who created death and life, that He might try which of you is best in conduct. He is the Mighty, the Forgiving. 3 He it is Who created the seven heavens in pairs. You can not see any contrast in the creation of the Merciful, so direct your gaze to see if you see any gaps? 4 Then, from time to time, direct your gaze, and your gaze will return to you humbled and helpless. 5 We have adorned the nearest heaven with candles, and made them throwers against the devils, for whom We have prepared a painful punishment. 6 Hell is a punishment for those who do not believe in their Lord; how miserable he is! 7 When they are thrown into it, they will hear its noise, and it will boil. 8 "Out of rage, he is almost torn to pieces. Every time a crowd is thrown at him, the guard asks him:" Did not a prophet (warner) come to you? 9 They say: "Yes, a messenger came to us, but we rejected him and said, 'Allah did not reveal anything, and you are nothing but a great loss.' 10 They say: If we had heard and understood, we would not have been among the dwellers of the Fire. 11 Thus they confess their sins; the dwellers of the Fire are far from mercy. 12 Those who fear their Lord without seeing it, for them is forgiveness and a great reward. 13 But hide yourselves, or speak your word openly; indeed He knows what you conceal in your hearts. 14 Does not He Who created, when He knows that it penetrates the depths of secrets, He knows the details? 15He has made the earth suitable for you, so walk through its parts and enjoy His bounties, for to Him is the future. 16 Are you assured by Him Who is in the heavens that the earth will not shake when it shakes? 17 Were you sure of that which is in the heavens, that He would not send upon you a tempest of stones? Well, you will understand what My punishment is! 18 Even those before them disbelieved, but what was My punishment? 19 Have they not seen the birds above him with open arms, and when the wings are folded, no one holds them in the air except the Almighty. He is the One who sees and knows everything. 20 Who is your army that can help you but the Merciful? It is true that the disbelievers are found in a great deception. 21 Who is he that feareth you, if he should withhold you from you? No, but they persist in arrogance and disgust. 22 Is he who walks with his face to the ground more guided, or he who walks upright on the straight path? 23 Say: He it is Who created you, and endowed you with hearing, sight and mind, but you give thanks a little. 24 Say: He it is Who created you and multiplied you in the earth, and to Him you will be gathered. 25 And they say: When will this promise be fulfilled, if ye are truthful? 26 Say: "Only Allah knows, and I am only a warner to you." 27 "When they see it (Hell) approaching, those who disbelieve will have their faces disfigured, and they will be told, 'This is what you asked for.' 28 Say: Tell me, if Allah takes away my soul and those who are with me, or has mercy on us, who will protect the disbelievers from the painful punishment? 29 Say: He is the Beneficent, We have put our trust in Him, and in Him we put our trust, and you will know who is the loser. 30 Say: Tell me, if your water is lost in the depths, who will bring you on the surface of the earth?.,

      It was a very cool job our folks did on this. I've never heard of divers riding a wreck to the bottom. It would potentially be VERY dangerous as a diver would have to deal with rapidly increasing water pressure, not to mention the boat/ship could be completely unstable as it crashes into the bottom with no means of escape.

      Rose, the tugs were sunk to create new marine habitat intended to help fish species maintain themselves and to provide self sustaining fisheries. Plenty of people agree with these projects and plenty disagree. We filmed this to support a UNC project with the state of NC to monitor fish populations in NC waters. I do know that boats that are subnk as artificial reefs must undergo incredible cleaning regimens under state and federal laws to assure they don't pollute the marine environment. Hope that helps.
