My son and I decided to dust off our camping gear and head out to Round Valley Recreation Area in New Jersey (www.njportal.com/DEP/NJOutdoors). A few thoughts: 1. The campsites are decent - picnic benches and fire pit/rings (with grill) are at each site. 2. Assume COVID19 had something to do with this, but please note not all of the water wells (hand pumps) are working - only ones available whe...

    This is absolutely gorgeous. Thank you for sharing. I will definitely try hiking this route with my family next year. Just a few questions. 1 when do you think it’s too cold to hike for the novice hikers? Like November through March? 2. Is it illegal to cook the fish and eat after catch? 3. Did you bring bear repellents?

    • @ProudPapaLee
      @ProudPapaLee Год назад

      Thanks @dannykim9477! Glad you enjoyed it! My son (@seanlee8163) knows more about backpacking and hiking in Yosemite (and Sierra and Sequoia National Forests) than I do, but will try to answer your questions: 1. Yosemite remains open all year, but some roads and access points are closed for the winter due to weather/snow. It’s a good bet that your options for backpacking and camping will likewise be limited during this time. Best time is probably early spring and fall - we went in late September and the weather was perfect! (www.nps.gov/yose/planyourvisit/winter.htm); 2. In terms of fishing regulations, there are limits to the number of fish you can possess on a daily basis and in some areas, all rainbow trout have a “catch and release” policy. See the link here for more info (www.nps.gov/yose/planyourvisit/fishing.htm); 3. Bear spray / repellent is not permitted in Yosemite, but you must have bear canisters for your food. More helpful hints on dealing with bears at Yosemite can be found here - www.nps.gov/yose/planyourvisit/scarebears.htm#:~:text=(Bear%20spray%2Fpepper%20spray%20is,food%20and%20leave%20the%20area. Hope this helps and definitely encourage you/your family to do this trip - it was amazing!

    The monument in this video was built by Colonel Kuser to honor NJ war veterans. A private citizen built this. The monument and entire park were then gifted to the people of NJ at Kusar’s death. 14,000 acres. Unfortunately, NJ let Kusar Mansion, also gifted to NJ, fall into disrepair. Sad. NJ should have leased the mansion out to a private company to operate a B&B. But then again, government can’t do anything right.

    When you get to your assignment put it in your subconscious that you want to do something for other people without it being known that you did it. A bombastic attitude will not help you out. In general best to say as little as possible. When you go to your assignment for the first three to six weeks, observe before you get into the swing of it. Never say that anyone is stupid even if the person is not there that you're saying it about. Not being so well educated is a sensitive issue with enlisted and they can sense that you feel that way and they won't help you out if you think that way about him or her. A good portion of the enlisted come from dysfunctional families. So try to make each person feel he or she is intelligent without saying it directly. Never make a snide remark. A sailor or fellow officer will realize you have positive attitude about them and will support you thereafter. One or two of the people is crazy and you have to identify them, and see the best way to handle that situation. Reading autobiographies of all time great officers will help you exceedingly. Especially if you read such books out loud to yourself.
