Thank you so much for finally a video on halter showing
Hi I’m going to a prospect show tomorrow and any advice to give
What do you feed you does? What do the judges look for in a good breeding doe?
Omg! My goats name is Ginger too!!
I show goats to I am getting them on Monday
Hi! What product are you using at the 6:43 mark? I can't catch what it's called. thanks!
Hi I know I'm like so late but she says Weaver conditioning spray i use it my self and I love it!
Super ☺☺☺☺☺😊😊😊
i use that same chain :)
Where did you get those covers!?
i learned a lot
I have a boar goat..is it best to keep her horns?
Mariah Crane depends... I rather horned goats than dehorned because it just feels better to show. The collar catches and without horns the collar can slide right off.
i show breeding goats in 4-h can you give me tips on clipping my goat. i have a show next week.
I have a doe that is young and stubborn. She either doesn't want to walk and I have to "nudge her" lol or she want to try to run from me and I have to "nudge her" again.
Food motivation! All goats are young and stubborn let me tell you. Just takes a lot of work. Go out there every day and walk her around on that halter with some treats in your hand and hold them out in front of her face. She will eventually start to walk and then reward her. After a while, you won't have to use treats. My one doe only decides to move when she wants but if there is food, she will run a marathon!
I just got 2 kids and they are not getting used to me no matter how hard I try! Can u make a video with some tips for me and anyone who might be expecting this? Thanks! P.S. your videos are very helpful and awesome!
Emily Andrews my foe is due to having kids in January so I will definitely be making a video soon!
How do you walk the goat around the arena? When it comes time for youth fair, you have to walk it around the area
Sargent Zo-d like I showed in the video, walk you goat on the collar around the arena between the judge and the wall of the ring. Watch classes before your own and it will help you see what you have to do.
Omg I have those same boots
I have a goat named clover who I'm going to show this year and I needed some help
Bunny Lover278 what do you need help with? I’m here for any question you may hve
Summer Huber I have y worked with my goat much and I have a show in January I was wondering if I should use treats to train her because I feel like she’s only walking for the treats and I want her to be able to walk without me using treats
Your video was really helpful though
What kind of treats do you recommend?
I have dairy goats so its a bit different but for market goats this is a great video.
Wow 😎🤔😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎
your halter is on side and point should be down
Very good 😎
Can you make a video on how you excerise your goats
today i showed my goat, friday, she was in the mid weights with about 30 or more goats, she got third place!!! tomorrow i'm selling her, rip, just to note she was 80 pounds. that you this video helped me alot!!!
Thanks so much this is my first year with a goat
I love this. 👍🏻👍🏻My first fair is in September and my goat is so stubborn with the halter. Honestly I don't know what I'm doing😂😂 but thanks to your videos I now have an idea what I need to do.
Queen Monroy no problem!! Happy they helped and my goat in the video was so stubborn with a halter she wouldn't even move. Just don't give up! 😂
Summer Huber thanks for the advice. I followed what you said and got 4th place.😁😁 I didn’t think that I would get so close to 3rd place.😆😆
I honestly don't know what I'm doing either but my goat got 3rd place and I was so happy because she was being so stubborn that day
I just got GOATS🐐 a couple months ago and some of them aren’t cooperating with me and hanging out with me as they should be can you please make a video on how to get your goats to interact with you and other people? Thank you so much! I love your videos!
Queen Monroy me too
Hey! Me again, different account. Both of my goats are now dehorned, and are getting along pretty well. We've shaved both of them (one purely for relief from summer heat, it's been crazy), and both have done really well. The doe has come a long way in leading, I'm just nervous about introducing her to a show chain so close to show time. Any tips on how to make a quick and easy transition?
Paige Lothamer if you have a week to two weeks before a show, every night work with your goats. Set up a "show ring" with either 4 buckets or whatever you have and lead your goat first around with their halter practicing show skills. Then keep the halter on and put their show chain on and try and walk them around with their show chain. If they are bucking and coughing a lot it's ok, they are learning. I work with mine for at least and hour every night a few weeks before a show. Treats, treats, and more treats will really help with the process. Look for a video in the coming weeks for some quick easy training but that should help. If not let me know!
Will do, thanks!
I just want to thank you. I have always wanted goats and this year I finally got the opportunity to get some. I was and still am a litte confused, but you have helped me a lot and answered many questions I had. I am super nervous for fair but also very excited! Thanks for everything
Delainie Donovan no problem! Feel free to ask as many question as you'd like and don't forget to subscribe!!
Hello! I just got my first pair of goats to show in the local fair, a Boar goat an Oberhasli. I was wondering if you had any tips on clipping, or how short you would do it? Would you trim the head or leave it?
Paige Lothamer Hi Paige! Well if you have market goats, you would slick them as they say or cut their hair down to skin. You don't shave below their knees and hocks on their legs. Also you leave the top of their tail with some hair like a poodle. If your goats don't have horns, yes you would shave their heads but if your goats have horns you don't have to shave their heads. When is your show? I'll be shaving my animals Sunday and making a video as well. Let me know -Summer
Thanks so much for the fast reply! I have a show in July, and a show in September. The Boar is simply going to be used for breeding purposes once the show is over, going back to the people we got her from, and the other will be sold in auction after his showing. Now that you've brought up horns, I have another question: When the goats were both just babies, someone failed miserably at burning their horns. The Boar has one horn, and the Oberhasli has one about an inch long, with another one growing. Is there anyone we could remove the horns anymore, with how big they are?
Paige Lothamer ok well for breeding clipping, usually what I do is since your show is in July, I would clip it down to skin and wait for it to grow back or what you could also do is put a guarder on your clippers about a half inch. That will cut them a good length. For the horns, depends on how old your goats are. Usually the younger their horns are removed them better because of stress for the animal. I would consult a local vet about possibly banding their horns and I would do that a soon as possible just so they could come off before fair. Since they sound small I believe it wouldn't be to hard on them. -Summer
We're actually making a vet appointment for one of our mules tomorrow, so when we go up, I'll definitely ask about the horns. Thanks a bunch for all the information!
Paige Lothamer No problem!! Feel free to check me out on instagram @summertimegoats and subscribe. I'm always here to answer your question

Hi my names Ashley and I was wondering can you give me any tips for picking out a good market wether?
Brittany Thompson ok I'll give you a few tips that I use for my wethers 1. Look for a nice long stocky goat 2. Feel his loin and try to see if it's wide and think I guess you can say. 3. Look for a nice smooth top line so you want his back to be straight and not bumpy 4. Ask about his sire if he produces nice stocky muscle goats 5. Look at his rear end for a lot of power. The more muscle at a young age the better he will grow. I hope these helped! I'm still learning but that is what I always use.
do u raise market goats for fair or just show goats?
Acc Redhead I have raised market goats for 3 years and switched over to breeding. So I currently just show my does but I used to show market wethers
Summer Huber I've raised market goats for fair for 3 yrs as well:-) I'm working on my 4th. I was wondering if ur goats ever had scabby flakey stuff on their hocks... and if so what u did about it.
Acc Redhead does it seem like dead skin? Especially since it's turning a little warmer they loose their hair a lot. Sometime I was down the spot with warm water and just use dry shampoo. A good bath would also help since they haven't had one all winter or one at all.
Summer Huber well its kinda like brown/black scabs and white flakes:-/ I'll try to wash them and see if that helps:-) thx for the advice:-)
Acc Redhead ok and it could also be lice. My goats itch a lot and become scabby if there is lice from a lot of itching
I have three goats one is perfectly trained yearling one is ok but not the best and the other won't walk on any lead she's not food motivated either any tips to make her lead??
Kookookrazy Kaiya well depending on how old your does are, their are a few ways you can try and train. The first way you can train is try what I do in my video which is to put a halter on them and just walk. Don't look back at them and walk. If that is not the best method try first tying them up to say a fence board with their halter on for 10 minutes at a time. Soon after about a few days then again try and walk them like I said before. If this doesn't help let me know because the goat in the video was the exact same way and this seemed to help. Make sure to subscribe!!! Thank you -Summertimegoats
Summer Huber ok thank you 😊
Great video!! Just subbed on IG. Hoping to get a couple of my kids into showing our Goats. Keep it up. - Mike
