I got a steam deck as I knew I had limitations but with use it should get better

Hi I have a steam deck 1tb I am a guy who has limited use of my right hand paralysis so when playing driving games you need to use your hand to reach the shoulder buttons or open world games you need to use the dual action controls I can’t how easy is this to alter button mapping?

A thing to consider for people deciding is how/where you normally game. I game laying down in bed most of the time and its way to heavy to hold comfortablely in that position for long periods. So I got a controller, then screen is to far away so I thought about getting a larger screen and released a laptop would be 10× better for me. And for travel Ive found a laptop takes up much less valuable space in a bag than the awkward shape of steam deck and I would have a laptop with me anyway. Steam deck is cool but there is no scenario where it has any advantage over a laptop for my use case. So I sold steam deck and upgraded laptop to something thats also more powerful than steam deck. Only disadvantage is more expensive. And higher power draw at 100W

Watching here from my 64Go LCD Steam Deck upgraded with a 2To SSD and dual booted with Windows (no SD card needed for that btw, a USB stick works) and the Windows part is just in case I can't avoid it. I stick with Steam OS. Bought a Steam Deck for myself after convincing my girlfriend who never had any real gaming device to buy one herself (it has become her lone computer) ans seeing her enjoying it. Was coming from a dying 10 years old gaming laptop so the Steam Deck was actually a specs improvements in my case. I am convinced with the product, it does what I need and allow me to get rid of Windows.

Just bought a lightly used one and it’s great. I was a PlayStation guy before but this is great. Oh and shmimtento emulation! Rocking that right now.

Is it more worth it (price-wise) to get LCD version if you are gonna use it docked on a 4K tv?

Just bought one a few days ago can’t wait for it to come. The main reason I got it was because it’d be nice to have during college when winter breaks over and because I don’t have the space to bring my pc or want to lug it around.

I was going to buy a Nintendo Switch for the first time as late as 2022, and then I decided to get a Steam Deck instead because if I got the Switch, then I had to buy games. But I already have a ton of games in my Steam library, and some of them have been sitting there unplayed for years. But then a friend of mine told me about the ROG Ally and I canceled my plans to buy the Steam Deck and got the Ally instead because it had a newer and more powerful APU. It's not perfect, but I still I love it. I wish the ROG Ally had the two touch pads in addition to the touch screen, just like the Steam Deck, but I don't regret getting the Ally instead of the Steam Deck.

Man I kind of wish I had known about this device sooner. I had a gaming laptop with over 30 games on steam and had purchased a ps4 to play some of the games I’ve had bought on steam but couldn’t play at the time because of my non working gaming laptop. Just realized I could’ve probably saved a lot of money with the steamdeck.

Regarding anticheat, BattleEye, Easy Anticheat (minus fortnite and a few others), etc have started supporting Steam Deck/linux in recent years. I don't forsee all anticheats following anytime soon, especially kernal level AC's like Riot's Vanguard. You could try using cloud services like Nvidea GFN to game if the latency isn't annoying for your specific setup/game.

Ive watched a few of these recently and A LOT of RUclipsrs get their facts wrong. You did a really good job reaearching / giving valuable anecdotes. Thanks for the vid.

Ever since I went switch, I went back to handheld only. Reason I got the steam deck: I missed hunting for achievements, some games are not being made for switch but I can play them on the deck, and emulation

I am 54 years young, have almost every gaming system since the Intellivision in 1979, and purchased the Steam Deck OLED 512GB in early December, with the Steam Dock (I know its pricey, but it was easy). Not to go over the top, but hard not to gush about it…it’s exceptional. I travel for work, and it has gone with me on my last two trips. I play it on the plane, in the airport, and my hotel room in the evenings. The battery lasts much longer than I expected…but I will probably get a battery bank at some point. When I am home…connect it to the Dock, and it plays beautifully on my 40” 4K TV, connected to a PS5 controller. It will play thousands of games from Steam. I haven’t touched another system this whole month. It is quickly becoming my go to system. The final and best thing about it, is I have 3 sons that are all gamers. They all have super powered gaming laptops, and now with my Steam Deck I am enjoying a bunch of games with them in co-op. The Steam Deck has just exceeded all my expectations, and given me another avenue to connect with my sons. I LOVE IT!

Since people do nvme storage upgrades …Does the micro SD card allow less graphic intensive games to run off of it or is it shader or anything can go on it ? (Would obviously use nvme for more graphic intensive games , micro sd for smaller games like stardew) or does the micro sd card serve another purpose?

I think anyone should buy a steam deck, I think overall it is just great to have a handheld pc. Personally I had the choice to go with Rog Ally extreme because i could buy it in my country. Rog Ally is superb but something went wrong with it and so now I am moving on to Rog Ally x. I think this is the best handheld PC and it's at least superior to the steam deck in most aspects but yeah I think both of them are great and are an almost essential tool especially for gamers.
