I worked for Allstate, back when this bus, fleet number 125, was new. I drove #125 on many a charter, often for Tauck Tours during the summer. While I was there, they had a 4106, a Prevost Champion, a couple of MC-8s, several MC-9s that were delivered after #125, and the owner's pride and joy, a Canadian Greyhound MC-6 (one that still had the original 12V71/4-spd manual powertrain) that was nicknamed "The Pink Panther." There are several photos of that coach on Google Images, btw. Oh, and the "Keep On Truckin'" destination sigh? The owner also owned a trucking company ("Market Express") that specialized in hauling frozen foods, and this saying was one that was popular in the early '70s. On another note, when I heard Iconic was going to produce an MC-9, I contacted Jeff and helped develop this model by supplying photos (including one of the builder's plate authenticating #125 as the very first production MC-9) and my experience with the company, some of which became info on the packaging.
Nice

Some countries use Post Buses run by the Postal Service to take passengers along with mail to rural areas where mail volume is low.

Just found your channel and I absolutely love it. Growing up around Gospel Groups in the south is how i came to love buses especially the entertainer coaches. Where did you find them? I've been searching to purchase and build my own collection of them. Any information would be helpful
I got into bus from my dad. He drove for 40 years and I’ve driven professionally almost 20 years myself
Tear up the drums bruhhhhhh 👏🏾🔥
In 1971, Greyhound headquarters moved to Phoenix, AZ and it remained there until the sale of Greyhound to private Dallas investors in 1987, after which they moved the main offices to Dallas, TX. In that tall building in downtown Dallas with the green neon on the sides, Greyhound had three or four floors in that building, not sure if they still do.
And agree on the paint scheme, that is the classic Greyhound scheme from the 70's and what I remember as a kid where everywhere you went you would see many Greyhounds on the road. They've gone from over 4,000 buses to less than 1,000 today. On the fuel tank, the standard tank was 144 gallons with a 35 gallon optional auxiliary tank which Greyhound always bought, giving a total of 179 gallons and a safe fuel range of 750 miles. Drivers had to look at previous miles driven on the card and where you are going to make sure you can make it to the next fueling point. Greyhound in those days did not run a fuel gauge or an odometer, they wanted the drivers involved in the fuel and trip planning and not looking at a gauge. Today you probably can't even get a bus delivered like this so I assume all the newer buses come the same as everyone else's. Back then Greyhound did it their way and it worked.
Valley Transit is owned Greyhound but operated as a separate company and serves south Texas into Mexico. Southeastern Stages in Georgia is an old independent carrier founded in 1933 and originally had their own routes. Not sure who's got what routes now because of service cuts but Southeastern used to have a pretty big operation. Back in the day their buses were painted exactly like Greyhound except they said Southeastern Stages, they even had dogs on them. 😀
Did the real Greyhound MC-9 ever wear that paint scheme? I thought it was the D buses and MC-12 only. Comparing the 9 to the 12 underneath the 12 had the suspension and air bags from the 96A3 and it was a better system. It also had the larger A/C condenser off the 96 and 102A3 to cool better with the new 134a freon. Inside the steerng wheel was the smooth grip wheel from the 96 and 102 and was easier on the hands. 😀
Short history, Greyhound Canada was founded 1929. In 2018 with declining ridership they ceased operations in all of western Canada leaving only the provinces of Ontario and Quebec. In 2020 with the onset of Covid they temporarily paused operations with a plan to resume after the pandemic subsided. This never happened and after 92 years of service, the company permanently shut down all operations in May 2021. The following cross border Greyhound routes continue but are operated by Greyhound USA: NYC - Montreal Boston - Montreal Buffalo - Toronto Seattle - Vancouver In October 2021, the German company FlixSE which operates FlixBus, acquired Greyhound from First Group. Greyhound USA continues but they had no interest in restarting Greyhound Canada so sadly, it appears to be gone for good.
I remember Allstate, they did senior tours all over the country and back in the day you would see their buses everywhere. Never did go inside but it was probably just as comfortable and wild as the outside. Only other fully painted buses I remember back then was Gray Coach out of Canada.
Cool looking Eagle, I remember a few but they stayed in Trailways colors. Greyhound did their freigters in the early 70's and they had 24 seats. Purpose was to boost revenue on lower performing routes but routes that you could not legally abandon like today because back then, the ICC would make you stay on them even if you were losing money. Definitely a different world today.
The Maddencruiser was a great source of pride and publicity for Greyhound when this program began in 1987. The deal with John was that Greyhound would supply the bus and operate it for three years and at the end of the three year period, Madden would own the bus. The actual bus was a 40-foot 102A3 with an 8V92 engine. It never had seats but was built as a shell from day one for conversion. It had basically an RV interior with a bed in the back. The sides were stainless steel not aluminum as were all MCI. Don't believe they were available factory painted, that began in 1989 with the 102C3 and those buses actually used different lower panels that were smooth to better match the sides. The paint scheme was the standard current Greyhound scheme at the time. So it looked like a regular Greyhound but the more you looked at it the raised roof, aluminum wheels, Maddencruiser instead of Americruiser on the side and some other cool things gave it away that it was really something special, oh and of course, the iconic 0001 bus number. The model is pretty accurate except for the rear, that's actually the rear from a later 102D3 and the paint on the rear is also from a later version. The Maddencruiser scheme was the standard paint scheme circa 1985 and up beginning with the first 102A3 and then went on to the early MC-12s and this scheme itself was a modification of the classic red, white and blue scheme that had been on every Greyhound bus since the early 70's. Glad to see that John donated this classic bus to the NFL Hall of Fame before his passing and that the exterior has been restored to it's former Greyhound glory for all to see and enjoy.
