Miracle On Ice, Newly Discovered Original Live Call
Просмотров 948 тыс.17 лет назад
Incredible, authentic, recently discovered, original play-by-play call of The Miracle On Ice hockey game, perhaps the greatest upset in the history of team sports. When the USA shocked Russia, 4-3, at the 1980 Lake Placid Winter Olympics, Curt Chaplin was covering the game as a sports reporter for ABC Radio Network Sports. Crouched on a camera platform in the crowd, he did a solo play-by-play o...

    IF YOU ARE NOT OLD AS I AM ..... the Russians had won everything, every Winter Olympics Hockey Gold* after our last victory......prior in 1960. Beating Russia was a Truly a Miracle AS RUSSIANS WERE NOT AMATEURS NOR EVEN PRO TEAMS ALL STARS ..... they played as "ARMY" athletes .... for years and years, therefore so very familiar line mates and just Phenomenally hard to defeat. USA barely did it .... then beat Finland for the Medal ! jj

    Something that's probably lost on some people is the physical endurance required of the guys in that last shift, even if you've played shinny. At least according to the movie, Herb Brooks wanted no changes until there was a whistle in that last 1:12. Even when USA cleared, Russia collected the puck pretty quick. Least we could do is keep the puck on the boards, and even then you can see the amount of ice guys covered to do so. Unreal.

    This is by far the greatest sports moment in all of history.ii do have question that I just thought of water listening to Curt's in depth analysis of the Russians looking tiredbat about 1930 of the third period.which was very observant.two Russian players were wrapping there arms around team USA.very tired.question.why didn't the Russian coach change lines there at the end?and why was there goalie not on the bench for a sixth attacker?

    • @curtchaplin
      @curtchaplin Год назад

      Excellent questions Thomas. I would say they left their TOP line on to try and tie the game even though Michailov, Kharlamov and Makarov (I think it was) were running on fumes after an extended shift. They didn't pull their goalie because they almost NEVER trailed in the final minute of ANY game over the past 20 years, so they had never practiced that maneuver and no idea what to do when it happened.

    • @ThomasHathaway-ft9fu
      @ThomasHathaway-ft9fu Год назад

      That's so true. I am still amazed that right after you said the Russians looking tired as they press...... Then two Russians basically hugged two us players.and in retrospect could have easily been whistled down with a holding penalty.
