Frigidaire Ice Maker Hack

My ice maker routinely would stop making ice. After years of struggling I discovered that power-cycling the fridge solves the problem. I created a schedule on home automation to power-cycle the outlet routinely and now the ice hopper is always full! www.amazon.com/dp/B01NAO4B9Z?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details&th=1

what is the procedure for adjusting the ice cube size in a frigidaire professional refrigerator?? (model FPBC2277RF5 )
How do you put it in service mode
Simultaneously hold-down the Up-Arrow and the Plus-Sign for a couple of seconds. After that press the minus sign and it will show you function 63 (on the right) and the number on the left is how many times it has dropped trays of ice. If you press the set button it should force it to drop ice now. If it doesn't, you'll need to exit by holding-down the plus sign, and repeating the step above to get back in to service mode. Lastly, if it does drop the ice, then you can press the plus sign until you see function 55; this fills the tray with water if you press the Set button (be careful that its not already full because it will overflow).
Outstanding Hack.....Thanks
That's smart. Thanks for sharing
When in doubt, sue!
I quote this guy (Melvin frickin Belli) when stuck in traffic.
I had this refrigerator and it stopped making ice as soon as the warranty ran out. Had technicians look at it and tell me it wasn't worth trying to fix it. It was so upsetting having paid so much for it.

Wealth does not equate intelligence, classy behavior, or noble character
We have the same refrigerator. No problems with the ice maker other that it takes 3 days to fill up with ice if you happen to use it all. Our refrigerator is the absolute loudest refrigerator I have ever owned. It makes loud knocking noises I guess during defrost or some other cycle but it is extremely loud. Not sure if this is normal but we got used to the noise 24x7.
Some times when the cold setting is to cold it will do that. Adjust it warmer. And up plug it for few hours then plug back in see if that helps. A water pipe can freeze when to cold. The nocking sound is a water pump tryn to work
Kind of reminds me of Bill Gates. He’s rich as can be, smart at getting rich, but otherwise, dumber than a bag of hammers!
I beg to differ. I believe it takes a stable genius to get wealthy. Nah...
😊 tell me of the smart man who invented great stuff that was rich 😂 they're usually not on the streets, but they're not rich. They're educated and driven, caring less about money and more about their visions.
Today we need computers to make ice.
A humble amd wise man.
Current politics has me thinking of the "Friendly Angel" a lot anymore.
The freezer drawer ice maker won't stop making ice. The raised bar won't prevent it either. I had to manually shut off ice for the entire unit. What a piece of junk! Glad I didn't buy this thing.
This is good episode that mirrors what we see today with MAGA and Trump.

3/25/2024 update: Its been a year since I implemented this hack, and I'm happy to say that it is nearly always full of ice now. Every once in a while it stops making ice and I have to go into service mode, change nothing, just exit, to get it back on track. Overall this hack has been worth it.
I get a new Gallery tomorrow. The first thing I am going to do is unplug the damn ice maker in the Frig and disable it in the UI. Hopefully the upper ice maker will not get any water and stay dry ??? IDK Hope I don't have to block off that line from the water valve to that ice maker. Comsumers should not have to be worried with fixing defective product after spending $2K. This is crap and should be a *Class Action Suit* ??? Name Brand Mfgr's have Betrayed Consumers by making this cheap junk in C H I N A without any QC.

I have exact same fridge. I found if you turn ice maker off when tray is full and then turning it back onwhen ice tray gets low works well. Occasionally it will freeze up water line to ice tray so then all you have to do is turn off ice maker on front panel then press up and down arrow on the left at the same time for 10 seconds the test and defrost comes up. Use plus sign to get to #26 and leave it there. The # on the left is the ice maker temp. It will go up steadily for a few minutes then will automatically go back to normal mode. Voila! Then turn ice maker back on and you're done.
Yes I was doing that routinely and you are right, it works temporarily…in my case it would stop making ice again in two or three days. The water line was not frozen, the fan was not frozen, none of the components were frozen…it would just stop. As an update since making this video, I no longer have to intervene, the tray is always full of ice. I’m sure I will need to defrost it again the months ahead but so far this band-aid trick works well for me!

So basically, you just turn the power off for one minute 3 times a week, then turn it back on? If I just unplug the fridge for one minute do you think that would work? My ice stopped working, as well, it's frustrating.
Yes but it will only work assuming the plastic water pipe attached along the back side of the fridge isn't frozen, plus you need to be sure the coil behind the ice maker isn't frozen as well. If you know it isn't frozen, then the power-cycle trick might help. However instead of unplugging it you can just put it into service mode and tell it to drop the ice now, then tell it to fill with water now, and finally when you exit the service menu, it will cause a reboot. That is what I've been doing for ages to keep the ice tray full, but now I've automated the process as I explained in this video. I don't know if you have the same model as mine, but to put it into the service mode you press and hold the up-arrow and the plus-sign simultaneously. Once the menu is active, press the minus button so the number 63 shows on the right side of the display. Then press the Set button and wait for it to dump the ice. If it won't, and just ignores you, then press and hold the Plus button to exit (it will power-cycle). Then try going back to the same menu (63) and press Set again. It should dump the ice at this point. When the dump is completed then press plus twice so the number 55 is showing on the right. Press Set to make it fill the tray with water. When its done filling, press and hold the up-arrow to exit and cause a power cycle. You'll have to remember to do this every few days but once you learn this sequence at least you get one tray of ice immediately and a random amount of ice for the next few days.
@@westrex Thanks, I will give it a go.
Having just gone through the process of taking apart, putting back together, running multiple defrost cycles, running automated troubleshooting, running manual troubleshooting, etc I will laugh at my misery if this was the solve the whole time. Good stuff.
@@westrex I have to press and gold the + button and not the up arrow to go back to operating mode, and 63 doesn't dump my ice. I think 57 does
