This is the Medley at the end of the Musical Starlight Express. Filming was allowed. Specific Cast unknown. But Rusty, Greaseball, Electra, Golden Eagle and Hydra were definitely main Cast. Background: Starlight Express originally premiered in 1984 in Apollo Victoria Theatre. In 2002 Starlights Doors closed in London - making Bochum (Germany) the only place worldwide, to show a constant product...
Do you still remember who played caboose there?
sadly not :( But def not Dan Ellison
@@corvoauditore3564 I thought maybe Gary Sheridan but not 100% sure
saw this show last week.... simply amazing... full of energy throughout ... its a must see....we loved every second. we did a day trip from Dublin, really good.... saw a matinee last Thursday.
This is what a Disney remake of starlight express would look like…
Does anyone know what happened to the red caboose?
@@emmapoolesheldrick5271 he died in a train wreck
Does anyone know the name of the song rusty pearl sing? I’m knew to this music and I really wanna know😭😭😭
@@alexandra_andrade4678 the song is named „I do“ - it was written by Andrew Lloyd Webbers Son Alastair.
Thanks for posting this, I loved seeing it recently
So its for children
It always has been. It originally started life as a Thomas the Tank Engine musical.
It's for people who have imagination. Don't have imagination? Sit at home and watch GB News instead.
@@Powered_By_Piesdon’t make me laugh! If this production had any imagination they’d have made them look like actual trains, not knock-off Power Rangers villains. The choreography is laughable and simplistic and doesn’t even attempt to simulate train movements like past productions did. It just relies on spectacle over substance with all the extra special effects just to cover up how amateurish the whole thing is. The whole thing is just garbage. But if amateur hour is what floats your boat, have at it…
@@Simulacra719don’t make ME laugh. They have always looked like this, they just sparkle more! If that’s not imagination, I have no idea what is. And I think it looks great. And if you’re gonna insult my intelligence, and those of everyone else who agree with me, and yes, there are many who do, then what are you even doing here?
i love that the costumes look heavier but i hate that the similarity of the shapes of the costumes makes it harder to distinguish the different characters also some characters i don't recognize at all. 😢
What do you think about the current german production?
The true Starlight Express experience. I enjoyed the Wembley production but felt it was a paired-down version compared to the 1986 show I watched at the Apollo Victoria. So I decided to book my trip to Bochum in November for a Saturday night show.
Can we please get this show back in the states
Having seen the show, I want to speak in defense of the costumes and... Well, everything! Firstly, the costumes make a lot more sense in context - It's space themed, though I also think the fact they're trains doesn't get lost if you actually watch it. The performances were amazing and the script is actually pretty much identical to the current German one aside from changing some characters - So if you don't like it because it's 'woke', whatever that even means other than 'it's got someone in it who isn't like me and I don't like that', maybe don't fork out to go to Bochum either! Fwiw, the new take on Greaseball was really fun and Lara who played her when I saw it was a gem. Admittedly I don't love all the costumes even in context, I think the competing racers look too same-y and would've liked more variation on them, and I'm not sure how much having Control onstage really adds to anything, and there's some songs I *wish* they'd brought back, but these people are passionate and put on a really remarkably good performance. Also, are you really a Starlight Express fan if you're not aware of the fact the show's been put on all over the place, and has had stuff cut and changed about a million times? 😂😂😂 Contrary to what some people think, the show you saw in the 80s when you were growing up hasn't existed for a *long* time, and probably isn't coming back. This one is very different, but different isn't bad. Give it a chance, open your mind to having fun, and who knows? You may just have some. (Also wanted to add a note and say I may be a young fan, but I've been a fan since *2012* when I saw the UK tour, which was a long time ago. I was ready to hate this production and I won't be uncritical about it, but slandering a production of the show you've never seen just because it's different and you want your childhood show back is beyond the pail.)
@@strangeandinteresting I dont mind the „woke“ parts. But yeah, I miss the old Starlight. I‘m from Germany and I do dislike many of the changed from 2018. I loved the old costume, the crazy Electra with that burst wire on his head, the dirty Freight Trains, the old Caboose, who was acting really nice first and then shows its two sides, the big orchestra, with trumpets, saxophones and on and on… And yes - I really dislike the costumes of this Production and I dont like the space theme at all. But I dont hate the production. I‘m just sad, that I‘ll never see the old Starlight again. :/ I’m 27 years old and first visited Starlight in 2003 - so please allow me to be nostalgic.
Couldn't agree more. People need to stop letting their nostalgia blind them from the fact this production is phenomenal to witness. I'm obsessed with this show and know some little secrets the usher told us about the production and cast. Like for instance Electra is played by a non binary drag queen who is debuting into theatre with this production so of course their voice isn't the most powerful but for what they accomplished so far they doing great! Their voice gets better with each performance. Hydra was the only cast who knew how to skate the others did a 12 week course. Greaseball sounds better and more powerful as a female character compared to the male version of old tbh. The songs are pretty much the same as the old ones with slight melody and lyric adjustments such as 'Whistle my name' being changed from a boppy song to one of more melancholy ballad. This show is amazing and while not entirely perfect (the ending was a bit abrupt and could of been tied together better) I cannot recommend this production and it's cast and team enough! The ushers and theatre manager were more then helpful for my gf who had her wheelchair and I cannot thank everyone enough and cannot recommend this show enough even going back to see it in march 2025 and going to the add on restaurant (which we did this time too) because we loved it so much even got the no one can do it like a steam train shirt. Anyone who slanders this is either closed minded, blinded by nostalgia or stupid to think this show is any less impressive then it is straight up 💯💪🏻
The costumes are hprrible. Bring back the old version
Learn to spell and THEN COMMENT! They are great🎉
you're blind? they look incredible
They’re great, finally don’t look so dated and I’m finally interested in seeing the show after always sort of having thought of it as a joke. Bochum vids didn’t compel me, but these did
i find it so funny that both theatres where starlight express premiered (on bway and west end) are playing wicked also since it's premiere
@@alexoy2k thats true. Gershwin in New York - Apollo Victoria in London
My sisters and I have been avid Starlght fans since being little children. Overall we still thought there was a lot of magic in last Saturday's show, despite not having the amazing choreography & jaw dropping stunts of the previous version. We thought the child's dream scene gave clarity to the whole show and we really loved the softening prescence of Mama thoughtout - a very positive change. But we were incredibly disappointed with the cartoon costumes and the space settings - we felt they confused the story and didn't enhance the train theme. We also felt the continual interruption of the child to be distracting - they spolit the flow of the show, and we felt it was too much pressure on a little child, we would strongly suggest aftet the dream scene the child does not appear again. But we really liked the introduction of Hydra, brining the show up to date! We are keen to return but for the magic of the Starlight we loved we will be visiting Germany!
Saw this show in the early 90's with school for my Deama GCSE and loved it. Then i saw a am dram production which was outstanding a few years ago. Would love to see it again
I saw it early 90's in london and then came back in june 2024 london.... Coming back to london in september to see it again. Is Starlight express Better Than London ?
@@jverlo I'm a little confused with your comment. It's only starlight that I've seen?
Glad I'm missing it, was always great didn't need politically correcting.
@@darrenday702 I haven’t this version of this show but it still looks good but still prefer the old starlight express and I hate how they have got rid of next time you fall in love
I too am upset at how toned down Electras drag aesthetic is.
They are fucking trains what is politically correct about trains???
Musical theatre has always been, and always will be, run by queer people.
Oh no you might have to interact with some art from 2024. How awful for you Darren. How will you cope.
I've seen several different films of the megamix already but this is the first time I've seen the marshalls bending down to high five the audience and doing amazing tricks on the way out :-) Still have to wait another month today to see it myself and I simply can't wait! - Gary
it does not disappoint in any way shape or form - just seen it today, - wow wow wow
Saw the original on Broadway back in the 80's
I loved this show. We planned a trip to London around Starlight tickets, and at the interval we bought tickets for 22 June so we could see it again. It's cool that we're in the audience in this video. I've had a soft spot for this show since seeing it in Vegas in 96. We also saw the US tour in 2003, but it's really an impossible show to do well on tour. I'm not a huge ALW fan, but this show (and School of Rock) are exceptions. While I miss the old songs, I think overall this is the best production I've seen, and they fixed some (not all) of the problems the old versions had.
I WANNA GO SO BAD
Well I can recommend it to you. But only, if you havent seen the german production and like it. Because my experience is: people, who know and like the german production and the original costumes, HATE the new london prosuction
@@corvoauditore3564me too I hope it comes on tour in Cardiff wales Millennium centre
@corvoauditore3564 To those people, I say: which one? The German version has not been the "original" since 2002. In fact, the version that is on in Germany is much closer to this version than any other. Yes, there is always going to be a place in my heart for the original, but every production should NOT be like that. That's the fun of a musical revival. We allow new artists to look at the material and make changes that fit their vision of a show. Plus, a lot has changed since 1983 / 1987 /1993 / 2012 in terms of cultural norms. I understand if you do not like the new vision, but hating a production because it is not like the ORIGINAL kinda bothers me. Especially since people have been making changes to this show for YEARS.
Just saw it this evening. Still good!!! My fave productions were the last 2 - seen in Manchester and London years ago. I'd go again for sure. They've made it more PC and it's definitely a younger and diverse cast. I guess it has to appeal to the next generations. It was fab though. 🎉😊
@@chutney-h3o I see your point!:) I was also very entertained. But I still would love to see the old shows again.
