I don't really like the instrument that starts at about 0:16. Sounds like what big companies think retro games sound like, even though the games rarely have that sound in real life. An FM marimba synth or something would work better.
It's a pad. Nothing else sounded well so I went with an C64/NES Square Wave arpeggio. A marimba would've sounded horrible in that position. Old games on the NES/C64/Game Boy/Master System/Game Gear did have such sounds to make the most out of those super limited chips, mostly by European composers. Often times sounding much better than games that didn't have them. The S2 SMS music I've made has them, all of them.
@ I just meant replace it with a new part, like Angel Island’s marimba synth part. Could be any other instrument. You could replace it with a Sonic 1 Green Hill motif or something.

I'd recomend listining to this at 1.1 speed for it to sound like the orignal
I would recomend skiping the first 5-6 seconds and increasing the bpm by 5 (i think that is the increasse that 1.05x speed is, i could be wrong) for the in-game version. I think that would help with imersion and pacing as the player explores and enjoy the sights of the level. Very good remix 👍.
