Rebuilding The Porsche 911 2.7 Engine Hit a MAJOR Setback...
In this episode of Revive the Drive, I thought I was in the clear after rebuilding the 915 transaxle and cleaning up the interior of the 1976 Porsche 911 Targa. But just as I was about to put everything together, I ran into a huge setback that I had hoped wouldn't show up. The road ahead is looking a little bumpier than expected, but the mission continues-I'm determined to finish this project and hit the road for the epic Pan-American Highway road trip, all to raise money for Galgos Del Sol.
Join me as I share the latest developments, the highs, the lows, and the unexpected challenges that come with restoring a forgotten classic. Every step of the journey brings us closer to our goal, and ...

Hey Porsche Hit Me Up

Hey @porsche, I know I am not your typical customer, but I appreciate you just the same. I'm an average person trying to take one of your cars on an epic Pan-American road trip. So how about this, if I make it all the way to Punta Arenas in this 911, will you top off the gas tank with your eFuel on this golden oldie? Thanks.
Rebuilding An Abandoned Porsche 911, How not to build a door card or remove head studs.

In this episode of Revive The Drive we are getting the Porsche 911 crank case ready to ship off for head stud repair and case saver installation. We also start working on building the missing door card. Once again, my skills are outweighed by the technique required.

Hang in there. It's always 2 steps forward and 1 step back with projects like this. It will be worth it when it's done and the satisfaction at the end will be worth it. Why not work on another part of the project while you're waiting on the case.

Keep up the determination to get it done! It'll be so worth it in the end! Thanks for the vid. Its good to see the ups and the downs. Helps me in my engine rebuild journey. Also learned from your mistake, Get the whole block machined, don't cut corners on that. Cheers!

Hang in there. The challenges are all normal for a home mechanic. Often things need doing twice and sometimes three times to get everything absolutely perfect. Ask me how I know ha ha. As I was watching you close the case, I was thinking if you'd you done a basic check of the clearances using something like PlastiGuage. But doesn't matter now as you know for certain there are issues with clearance. Wondering what kind of yoke you're using on that engine stand? I'm planning to rebuild my engine later in the year and need to buy a few items yet. Cheers from Australia.

I have a 901 I’m my 74 (it’s a parts bin special) it only selected two gears when I got the car: it turned out to have a broken dogtooth the edge jammed against the selection rod so nice simple fix. I would like to put it back to 915 but with the price of the box and I assume different axles it’s not my financial priority FYI The 901s also had five speed and we’re in production up until 1972

Luckily assembled and fixing this 915 was pretty easy! I only had worn synchros. Dog teeth were still super sharp.

I have liked subscribed and commented I hope this helps you get monetised because you’re gonna need it lol. I have a 1974 911 I’ve been building it for the last few years I laughed and your first episode when you said you’d be on the road in a month or two. These cars are crazy expensive to restore or rebuild the parts outrageous although part of my issue is that I’m in New Zealand so I have to pay lots of shipping on everything. Good luck with your build

In the 1980's I was a smog tech and worked at BMW and owned a car with the CIS. The major components that go wrong are the middle of the fuel distributor gets scoring, warm up regulator can be adjusted by disassembling pushing out that bass plug, about 10 mm, with gauges on the system you can hammer it back in and adjust the pressure to specifications and cold start valve are easy to replace. You can fix the air box with some epoxy. I might use a ultrasonic bath and rebuild that fuel distributor. Check the injectors for proper spray pattern. Everything, clean, clean, clean. The adjustment if I remember is a 3MM allen, I had a special hazet tool that was about a foot long to get to it. It inserts between the fuel distributor and the air intake on the fuel distributor manifold. Its uber sensitive. The only way to know if you have the adjustment correct is with a Carbon Dixon and Hydrocarbon reader sniffer machine Good luck. If you can buy a bolt on after market electric fuel injection, sounds sexy to me go that way if you can afford it.
