I loved it! One of my favorite books of the year! And I cheerfully refuse is such a good book title not just because of the book in the book, Rainy refuses to succumb to sorrow, he continues living and creating relationships despite his circumstances, idk it just gave me so much hope for humanity while also depressing me lol

I just finished The Haunting of Moscow House earlier today. That makes 2 books in 6 days. lol This Cursed House and this one. It was also fantastic IMO. Another one I simply could not put down. I will admit it starts off a bit slowly and can be initially confusing to read with all the Russian names, lore, and setting, but it got much easier to follow after the first handful of chapters the more that you read. There were also some slower moments focusing on romance and the characters’ love lives, but the hauntings and action picked up shortly thereafter and were great IMO. I also absolutely loved the lore behind the source of the haunting. Highly recommended IMO. It’s another one I could totally envision becoming a film. I think I’m going to read The Night of the Storm by Nishita Parekh next.

This was one hell of a debut. I just plowed through this in 2 and a half days after reading We Used to Live Here. One of the best books I’ve ever read IMO. I could easily see this being a movie. It reminded me a bit of a movie from years ago called The Skeleton Key starring Kate Hudson. I simply couldn’t put it down. The author has real talent and I’m looking forward to more from her for sure. Her attention to detail was commendable. I’m now about to begin another book called The Haunting of Moscow House.

@@SynsBookNook We Used to Live Here certainly was another fantastic debut. I am still contemplating if it really was purely psychological with Eve or if there actually were portals inside the house leading to other dimensions. The ambiguity was genius. I forgot to mention previously that I loved the little nod to Henry James’s classic Gothic horror The Turn of the Screw in the fact that Jemma was a schoolteacher and thought she was being hired to tutor someone.

    • @SynsBookNook

I became completely absorbed right from the very first few pages! I could relate to Margaret’s craving for stability which is represented by the Victorian home that she refuses to leave no matter what.!!! The character development is very well thought out and continues to be throughout this book Margaret’s relationship with her only child Katherine shows how starkly they approach life in different ways, which then leads to frustrating experiences between the two of them! Katherine finally learns to depend on Margaret for her very life and Margaret has her daughter’s back. The reassuring spirit of the housemaid Fredrika is a calming presence in Margaret’s life and her frequent quote: “needs must when the devil drives” shows how Fredrika’s personality of just getting on with it no matter what is very parallel to Margaret’s approach to life .

It's always interesting to me to see the mother/daughter dynamic in horror stories. I liked how in this story the main character refused to move out of the house, since it seems like most traditional haunted house stories don't tend to do this. This was a wild read that was quite captivating and weird, I definitely look forward to seeing what this author does in the future.

The rape, trans character, and gay character felt pretty poorly done. Felt like he was trying to add spice rather than writing with nuance.

It did a bit, at times it felt like a lot of subplots were being put into the main plot which made it a bit meandering. And then none of the subplots or those other characters were fully developed all too well. I did still like the main storyline but it felt a bit too busy.

I’m so happy and relieved that enjoyed my little book! Don’t Eat the Pie is not the greatest title. My brain is like, “Don’t tell me what to do!”😂

I am glad I found your review. I finished the finished the first book and thought is was good but not sure if I thought it was good enough to continue the series. Sounds like I better fit it into my tbr. Thanks for the review. Subscribed.

Yeah, I grabbed this book because I saw it at the library and thought why not? I thought the first was decent. But this one is leaps and bounds better than the first, it made me excited to read the next one. Hope you enjoy it, thanks for watching!☺️📚

My favourite book of November was the third book of the Children of Time series, Children of Memory by Adrian Tchaikovsky

The Thin Kid is definitely one of the best concepts to make this book realistic. Paul Tremblay does such a good job building the word of a late nineties, early oughts, horror. I am very excited to see what happens next, personally I think he's going to take a crack at early creepy pasta's, that entire phenomenon. Have you ever thought about collaborating with other creators? It would be really cool to pick apart another one of his books with you!

The Thin Kid is such an intense character, this book was darkly eloquent and tumultuous. Loved it! I've done some collabs with creators, just spent the past two months hosting readathons and currently working on a collab about The Dark Tower Series. This upcoming year I have a crazy life/work schedule and can't commit to anything new at time.

Would you recommend this for a 11 year old? Because my younger cousin really wants this book but I’m not sure I should get her it

@@11Huskerthecat11 I would say no, there’s a lot of gruesome murder in it.

I believe the haunting was caused because of the body that was bricked up in the wall. It’s been over two years since I read this and I don’t quite remember fully I’d have to revisit it.
