The first couple of minutes from the first peal of Rebel Alliance Maximus. Sadly my iPad 2 didn't record much of the peal. The ringing got much tidier further into the peal. bb.ringingworld.co.uk/view.php?id=342435 I obviously didn't give much thought to the camera angle as I was mostly focussed on trying to remember the method! Recorded Sunday 20th July 2014.

Staplehurst, Kent - Cambridge Surprise Minor

Cambridge Surprise Minor rung at Staplehurst on bells 1, 3, 4, 6, 7 and 8 of the ring of 10 in order to maintain recommended social distance. This was the final piece of ringing of a 45 minute session being the first ringing in the tower since practices were suspended in March 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic (with the exception of some tolling of single bells). Recorded Tuesday 18th May 2021.

The late great Chris Kippin's immaculate handling brought a tear to my eye
If you check the online Dove details it's apparent the 7th is very flat compared to what it should be versus the tenor, & bells 1, 2 & 3 aren't great either
The two trebles of the 14 sound very similar to those of Winchester, but of course the vintage Taylor twelve of Winchester has no comparison to these more modern Whitechapel bells (although I do rather like them)
Sounds Better Than Keeley Watkins & Leland Ravenhill
cast by diffrent founders and a flat 6th
Brilliant! Lovely to have an insight into the upper echelons of ringing.
🤣
😂
This doesn't sound like bellringing! More like a music orchestra! Fantastic!

I know all the Perrins as they are Sydney ringers. Thomas who is the older brother is a freaky ringer and he gets it from his dad Bill Perrins
taylors hohoho
We did exactly the same at Ossett today! Except it was Plain Hunt Bitriples!
That’s crazy that
absolute mad lads
it's also nice to finally have a nice recording of all 15 !
they sound very nice and audible!
The very nice 15 bells

OK

was hoping somebody had recorded this! well done all!
Certainly a little bit of ringing history has been made here. So wonderful to have it captured on video!
old joe is big ben?
Old Joe is the largest bell in this tower, and is used for the hour strike in the same way that Big Ben is at the Palace of Westminster
cast by john taylor
If there is better striking elsewhere on youtube i have not heard it! 👌
Fun Fact:There is a superstition that if students walk through the archway while the clock chimes, they'll fail their course
2 octaves minus a note. Lovely 😕
Nice bells, When you get up to these numbers like 14 or 16 it all sounds to busy and perhaps an exercise in nothing more than what is possible. To me the just right number is 10 10 always seems to sound so rounded and bright.
14:09
Well as far as sound is concerned, I think the best 12 in London Not only did my dad and Bill Theobald hang them in 1961 but I remember them being hung, I was 8 Having said they are the best sound contrast them with ST Paul's which I also love and best St Paul's is old school Taylor's. The reason I love St Paul's is they are to me at least the Quintessential some of London, the sound of Victory, the some of joy and the sound of my birth To even consider retuning t modern tuning is unthinkable. Bow however are beautiful
The best ringing I've heard on these. Good work!
Cracking ringing and a nice light 12 I really think having a front 8 is a bit of over kill. 19cwt for the back 8 is hardly a heavy 8
We sometimes ring the front 8 at Kingston upon Thames, but it’s not as bad as a front 8 of a ten. I like Mixolydian eights. The bells at Kingston go very well.
Thanks. They're a great 12. I'm sure the light 8 are very nice too. I think there's a place for 6cwt 8s. 19cwt could be a bit heavy for some local bands, but I agree it should be suitable for most.
@@AtTheBellEnd Your used to it seeing as your tenor ways 19cwt lol.
@@AtTheBellEnd just curious, why did the sound keep fluctuating on the video, sometimes it was clear then seemed to have a muffled effect.
There was a breeze coming in through the window, and I think the camera automatically cuts the audio from one of the microphones when it's windy. Apparently I can change the settings on the camera, but it's quite new to me so I'm still learning.
These are a really clear twelve. But in my opinion not as good as the vintage twelve’s.
Yes they are very clear and punishing - any striking errors really show up. I tend to prefer bright and clear rings of 12 like these to some of the "vintage" 12s.
@@AtTheBellEnd They are very unforgiving.
Gorgeous bells and super ringing!
These sound nice!
Aye! They’re not bad for Whitechapel and Gillett!
@@RingerThomas they sound like Taylor's
@@MrDoncaster10 The new ones, yes.
@@MrDoncaster10 Whitechapel front 7, Gillett and Johnson Tenor
Simon looks like a time traveller. Totally unrecognisable.
Your back!
The treble is very inaudible.
Yes, it was at the time this recording was made. The balance of sound was much improved on my more recent visit. They are a super ring of 12.
@@AtTheBellEnd cast by taylors in 1938
@@AtTheBellEnd Unbelievably similar to Bradford in a way. A boss Taylor 12 that could be up there with the best should the acoustics be sorted out. As a 10 or 8, they are excellent but feel very indistinct as a 12.

Those are schulmerich electronic chimes in g major
It sounds almost exactly like one, but it's not, there's an actual clock mechanism (as shown in ruclips.net/video/mQyZFzO7Xqk/видео.html) that strikes real bells.
Very nice sound! Plus, for the courtesy of you and others who view this, the chime tune heard before the striking of the hour is "Westminster" and there are actually lyrics for it. They are below if you want to read them while listening or sing along. Lord, through this hour, be Thou our guide. So, by Thy power, no foot shall slide. These words are based on Psalm 37:23-24, where David the psalmist declares this: The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord and he delighteth in His way. Though he fall, he shall not be utterly cast down, for the Lord upholdeth him with His hand.
