Zondagskind
Добавлен 18 ноя 2022
Hello everyone, I call myself Zondagskind, and I like to play videogames. I stream over on Twitch and make videos on RUclips.
In 2023, I made content in Civ VI, Town of Salem 1, Victoria 3, Ostriv, and Islanders. This year, I'm working on a big challenge marathon in Civ VI, so other games will feature sporadically at best, but you can always give me suggestions.

A Gobi Desert comment.
Good discussion. However, with any civilization genre game, you will have some abstraction. I understand the concerns you all have. Nonetheless, I feel like the main motivations for firaxis should have been more pronounced in the conversation. Representation - especially highlighting civs that have not been included before , gameplay improvements like engagement throughout the entirety of the game and balance. By breaking the game up in ages and not having to balance a civ to be balanced throughout the entirety of them game. Like a late game, civs have less interesting and harder time in the early game. I feel like all three of these considerations are far better for gameplay and enjoyment. Noting that representation and diversity are extremely difficult while juggling the historical accuracy. I trust them to do a great job, and it appears that though their connectivity with historical legacy for many civs might be more loose each civ. The specific history and nuisances are far more developed and researched for each civ in the game. I will take all of these improvements over the 'true', heirs, or successors, which, who is all true successor, can be already difficult to define already, anytime. Again , those mentioned points were brought up briefly they were not considered enough, i feel.

@@bran_ginger Someone's gotta do it!
Even though I don't build many wonders, some of your low rated ones are among the few I build. 3:40 Sydney Opera House is great when I run 6 or less cities w/audience chamber build. Not enough music slots. 5:20 I run Great Library when I do 2 campus in the ancient era and then focus theatre squares in classical. No more campuses until late game. 8:20 Like Opera House. Critical for tall audience chamber games.
@@SpicyTake I never build less than 10 cities in a culture game. 😅
@@Zondagskind.Gaming Yeah I usually don't, but in those games I'd go with ancestral hall and might go up to 12. Usually do 6. Sometimes 4 depending on the civ.
This is all very interesting! Have you guys considered emailing Dr. Johnson about some of your concerns about civ switching?
@montielaw I didn't, maybe someone on the panel does have contact with him. From what I've seen, Firaxis is pretty aware of and responsive to the public feedback, which is great to see.
@@Zondagskind.Gaming i totally agree. The fact that they also consulted with members from the Shawnee nation makes me feel very relieved; it will all turn out okay I hope! But you should try contacting Dr. Johnson, he's really easy to get in contact with and loves communicating with fans!

How come they never gave Araby a desert bias? Too stereotypical?
I think most spawn biases are paired with some kind of gameplay bonus. There's no gameplay reason for Arabia to spawn in the desert.

City patron goddess is a favorite of mine, helps a lot with getting commercial hubs up and then internal trade routes help quickly build up cities

Nice title.
is "You couldn't beat a Salad in a fight " an ERB reference?
It sure is!
we are waiting for whats up bitches from theodore?
They could have added "all healing is boosted by 20%" to his combat bonus. It would have been thematic at least.
Yeah, not sure how big that number should be, but I don't think it would have been overpowered.
In my opinion, they forgot the AI. You barley need any units to win a war and what you can do with one city, the opponent needs at least 6 or 7... Also the civilization characteristics and those leaders (?) you randomly get are very inconsequential. Nothing you build or achieve feels very impactful.
Yeah, the AI feels like a headless chicken even moreso than in Civ.
Abundant resources?
@@bran_ginger Yes, thankfully.

Also - the title of this video is so money
@@tom.walder I know, I was really happy that pun came to me. 😂
Its the type of title on videos that get tens of millions of views
Ara is an extremely ambitious game that is let down by an equally extreme lack of QA. Aside from crafting, there's not really any depth to the wide breadth of features. It's funny. I played Humankind finding myself wishing I could could play Civ V with Humankind's combat system and diplomatic systems. Now I wish I could do the same thing, but with Ara's city building and crafting system attached. The 4X genre is better on the whole for Ara having illustrated that a more in depth economy is feasible, but needs a lot more work to really tie everything together in a neat little package.
@tom.walder Yeah, I think there's room for a game to explore the things Ara tries to explore, like an empire-wide city management and a bigger focus on individual figures of history. Like the thumbnail suggests - and sadly I cut out a lot of points where I made this argument - I wish they had been more radical in being different from Civ and Humankind. For example, leader-specific victory conditions are an idea I was excited to talk about, but I felt like these five issues were more pressing.
ARA is really bad in so many ways. Worst of was the build-up where we were promised so much and drove our expectations high only to endup with a game made to accommodate the production chain, rather than an actual 4X game. It feels like a game made for accountants by a team of accountants who never played any game in the past 20 years and are competing with the first civ game by only making things look prettier.
Overpromise, underdeliver. It's a winning strategy, except when it isn't.
i dont think synchronous turns is that big of a deal tbh. its just not usual, and I like that i dont need to constantly reload cause i missclicked again.
I do think it's a big problem, because it means all that scouting and crafting happens without you seeing it. As slow as the game already is, I think it would benefit from showing us more stuff happening.
ara could be a great game, if they take what they have and get qol to work. especially the research speed, is ridiculous as most late game content is irrelevant as by the time you've produced any of it the game is over. the cumbersome crafting is so micro heavy if you want to play it efficiently, and you really notice that it was released way too soon. this games could be awesome and that's what annoys me most.
True, and at least that research speed seems to be something they're patching with priority.
I love the game it sounds like you did not take any time to learn the mechanics, yes it has flaws but every civ game had huge problems at launch.
@BKGamesPI I did make some headway into getting better, and I watched videos by TactiCat specifically to improve, but I wasn't put off because I wasn't winning - I was consistently ahead in prestige and wonders. I didn't know how Civ worked when I started, but I was still hooked because I found it interesting to keep coming back to it. Same for Crusader Kings III even though I still can't keep a dynasty together. Ara just bores me.
What mechanics??!!
You summed it up so well! Especially the lack of flavour is a major problem I had… I don’t even know how to talk about history related to this game since the history seems to be so surface level and not deeply intertwined with the game (and that’s why each leader/nation feels the same imo).
@Paisley_Trees Thanks! Yeah, it just feels super shallow. As much as I like that you can dress up your leader, maybe that time should've gone into making the game world feel alive. 😅
It only feels the same because you play them the same and not to their different strengths.
@@mekko1413 Well yeah, because the meta around getting established is so similar. But that's not an argument either, because even if I built the exact same things in two Civ empires, they would still look different.
This was 100% written by AI
The article? Maybe. As much as I oppose generative AI, that is the least of my concerns with it.
@@Zondagskind.Gaming Yeah, it read like it to me. The only thing that makes me question that is that I think chatGPT would write something longer. It's incredibly vague and generalized to the point of being useless, which matches my experience with trying to get chatGPT to explain complex game mechanics (it can't), so the best it can do is say "This will give you a tactical edge!" Same reason it keeps switching between multiplayer and singleplayer, the AI is quite bad at keeping continuity between responses. I'd encourage you to put some prompts into chatGPT for "CIV 6 tier ranking and explanation" or something similar, I have a feeling it would read extremely similar to this article.
@@ii8283 Weirdest thing about that is that I do believe the dude has the hours he says in Civ, because his bio apparently already said that before making the article. So it's not like he couldn't make a least a decent list and then explain it even if it's just with bullet points.
@@Zondagskind.Gaming Maybe so, but copy and pasting from chatGPT is always easier, and working for a content mill can't be a particularly fulfilling or inspiring that you'd put 100% into everyday.
GVD you got it Zondy. It was SUPER ambitious and they got too focused on the micro, hence the nano! The result was a flat feeling game big picture. Humankind was the opposite to me, too big picture and less mechanics, not counting the unnecessary war sim level battle system. The artwork was pretty mobile game too. Fair enough they had a great engine and managed a lot of detail, but everything was samey and hard to read and digest. But I rank it higher than Millennia for sure.
What an unfortunate game this is.
A Αυτό δεν είναι πολιτισμός comment.
I'm glad I tried it on gamepass, game is not horrible but certainly not worth 60USD.
Citrus gives a Military production bonus because it's used to combat Scurvy, that bane of sailors and soldiers.
@jamesgarrett1300 I probably should have explained that by "not making sense" I mean it just doesn't synergise with the other yields. Everyone keeps making very valid arguments about the history and thematics, but I won't move Citrus up a tier because the bonus makes historic sense. 😂
Very good clip
Omw to beat this sub 200 brb
How about a civ music theme tierlist?
I am already stuggling to make a unique infrastructure and civ tier list before Civ VII comes out, so as much as I like the idea, I think it's not going to happen at least before February.
I may like hanging gardens a bit too much, at this point I build it more than monuments
Lol, yeah, that might be a bit overboard. But it's a fun one nonetheless.

Good news if you've been keeping up with the challenges on Discord. I finally got round to posting the ones that were missing up to this one, that's nine challenges waiting for you in the server.
The Babylonian sabum kibittum has 3 sight, the scout only has 2? Big advantage for early game scouting. More first meets, more huts, more wonders found - tons of era score from all this too. Also giving 4 score just for being built. Feels like a guaranteed ancient era golden age all on its own. Never E. U crazy
@@WombleWarlord Nah, the Warrior replacements are better. You get 4 era score just for loading into the game.
Salty about salt
Will you play the updated version?
@easytiger6570 I haven't yet. For now I recommend watching PatmosIV, he's keeping up to date with the game. I've been preoccupied with Civ and recently Ara and XCOM2. But maybe it'll come back!
i think you overrated mount everest. more often than not, its adjacent tiles are mountains and its bonuses are very lackluster. D tier IMO. rest of the wonders I agree with solidly. in fact when I start games, I have presets for the natural wonders to exclude and they include most of the F tier ones. perhaps you can explain why you rate everest so high, the category inclusion isn't sufficient justification for me. cheers!
I can see that. I do think there's usually a couple tiles that are nice to work or put a Holy Site on. And if I'm not mistaken, because mountains have an elevated position, it's easier to find them.
