What is the best way to remove the pitch from your finished piece? Do you use a solvent?

So to get the nice crisp edges on the raised areas, you leave the pitch pretty much room temperature? I’m just learning. The repousse never has sharp edges and the background is always really misshapen. The pitch is probably too warm? And, did you anneal at all during the repousse step? Or just once at the start? Thanks.
