    All my bows I elevate the rest 1/4 of an inch either with leather or a flipper style rest. I like a slight angle downwards between the shelf and the sight window for the arrow to stay in place. This helps if its a windy day and the wind is moving that arrow outwards. I do like thicker velcro as it helps contain the arrow.

    • @TraditionalArcheryJourney
      @TraditionalArcheryJourney 4 дня назад

      @@bradlauber9097 thank you for your insight. I am going to play around with it, after another week of rest on my shoulder,and see what kind of arrow flight i get. The simplicity of off the shelf is appealing, but I am guessing, like you suggested, an elevated rest would provide better arrow flight and easier tuning.

    I don't have many broadheads since I don't hunt. (I think I have about 36 of em 12 each of 100, 125, & 150 grains.) They tear up targets pretty fast . I have a few that need to be sharpened and I was thinking of using my grinder??? I like having them in case I do decide to hunt, or if needed for a zombie apocalypse!!! Hey I will be praying for your shoulder! I know all about bad shoulders and have broken my AC joint in my right shoulder which I never had fixed. Torn rotator cuff tendons in the same shoulder never fixed. Tore 3 or the 4 rotator cuff tendons in my left shoulder 2 completely severed in half ... Oh yeah I know about shoulder pain alright! And they tell me pro-wrestling is fake?! Fixed is a better word for it, not fake. My injuries were real and I'm paying for them now! But hey, I'm alive, breathing, and shooting arrows! God bless ya brother & thanks for the video!

    My personal opinion. That style of riser is made more for an elevated rest. It has a wide flat shelf and flat window instead of being radiused for better arrow clearance. It also has the burger hole for threading an adjustable elevated rest. You can build up a section of the rest to get good flight as well. I always get cleaner arrow flight from elevated rests. A threaded rest placed through the burger hole can also allow for fine tuning of arrow flight. No wrong way, too each their own. Enjoy the process.

    If you cant the bow, off the shelf is better. As you pivot, the arrow makes wider arc above your knuckle with elevated rest. The greater this arc, the greater the change in point of impact. Many sight shooters use a level to make sure the bow is perfectly level. Shooting with bow vertical, elevated rest allows less arrow interference. I shoot both ways. Target-elevated good. Hunting or hunting practice or 3d shoots-off the shelf or knuckle.

    I actually just built a short mag bow ... I had 35 lb limbs laying around and so since I have been wanting a Bear Super Mag but don't want to spend $450 to buy one ... I made a riser. (I have a video on my channel if you want to see it) Anyway, I made the shelf dead center of the riser & consequently the bow instead of the handle like all my other bows ... And I have to tell ya ... It is my best shooting bow and I love it!!! The arrow sits dead center and I think it's the way to go!!! I don't know why bowyers don't do it, but hey, I'm glad I did! I will pray for you ... I know all about bad shoulders! Mine are destroyed from my pro wrestling days and a bad xar accident. I have had a 3rd degree break of my right AC joint and that's not fun yo live with. (Never had it fixed.) God bless ya and rest that shouler ... But a word of advice ... Keep some motion in it by moving it through some rehab shouler exercises. No weight just some hanging circular motions, maybe see a chiropractor or keniseologist to get the proper exercises.

Hope your shoulder gets better soon.I’ve been shooting bows a long time and I’ve always get better arrow flight with an elevated rest. Thank you very much for this video. It's very refreshing to watch someone as good as you are who has been doing it as long as you have be so humble about himself. It helps people that are fairly new to archery who speaking for myself, can't ever have great form due to numerous injuries to my shoulders and elbows. I can't even straighten out either of my arms in a lockout position. Anyway, as bad as my form is the best I can do is to repeat my form as bad as it is the same way to get consistent shots. I think this would help my anchor point once I get into fletching my own arrows. Thank you & God bless!

    Fine instruction and recommendations...Thank you Brad... My arrow setup...from nock throat to feather base at shaft is approximately 2.0"s...our individual structures dictate the best positioning of the feather. An exercise that I practice: draw to anchor & touch nose...holding with rhomboids...maintaining a relaxed forearm....release back tension in a controlled manner where the feather moves from the nose perhaps an 1/8"...then reset to nose using only rhomboids...work to build up to being able to repeat this routine 3 to 4 times...may release the arrow after the 2nd or 3rd time while repeating this exercise....may let down... enhanced control is the objective.
