I notice you just stuck to learning the given stock inputs layout. Is there a way to customize that to the different buttons and directions, or is that set in stone with the keyboard?
Hey, you can customize the layout however you want now. For example, I moved some characters to the left side so I can use the ctrl shortcuts with just the left hand.
@@klintwitha-kcharachorder3336 Ahh I see. Yeah I just recently drew up a custom CharaChorder Layout that fits super close to the QWERTY. I myself don’t have one, but just wanted to see how it’d look.
@@trekgreenwood6743 Gotcha. If you decide to get one, check out the Master Forge Keyboard on Kickstarter - the campaign has 19 days left. They say it's more durable than the cc1. I've had to use my warranty a requests a few times because the stems kept wearing out so I don't recommend it anymore now that there is an upgraded product.
About your point with writing at the speed of thought, it already exists! It's called stenography, and it's a really fun way to type, plus it's used to live caption and much, much more.
I would have gotten one, but I'm already doing stenography!
Have you looked into stenotype? It's faster.
Hey there, sorry for the confusion. It's been a year since I uploaded this video so I'm pretty comfortable with chentry at this point. And yes, it's comfortable. One of the sayings repeated in the that is "Came for the speed, stayed for the comfort" :)
It does say word for word and not letter for letter, but I was expecting the latter. I have been practicing the layout in my spare time while waiting for the Master Forge. I touch type so while I may fumble at times typing on my keyboard, it is pretty comfortable. I wanted to know about your individual letter typing experience, what keys you have difficulty remembering the place of, how long it took you to get over those hurdles, and how comfortable the patterns have become. The chording experience won't come to most of us within the first half year of using it, because we will still be placing heavy focus on memorization of letter strokes and individual words, so while this demonstration is valuable and shows the potential, it doesn't show us the real typing experience. It's just chording vs typing on a keyboard. When I read word for word, I thought you meant comparing the time and effort it takes to type each letter in the word on both keyboards for the same word. Thank you for the video and have a great day.
it wouldn't register because monkeytype only allows 350 or below
does it only support english?
wish the website was still up
This looks so cool! Mine is on the way. Can't wait to start the journey. I also pre-ordered the Master Forge which looks really amazing as well.
3 weeks in, how is it going?
@@asdfasdfuhf guess he still hasn't learned how to type with it
"This video is getting pretty long" meanwhile I thought the video just started 😂
It looks at bit tedious if you have to enter backspace "by default", in cases where you don't want a space at the end of the chord. E.g. when you wrote the loop function, you had to do the following, when typing a word: - loop (backspace) - count (backspace) - range (backspace) - count (backspace) again - print (backspace) - etc. Do you code with chording or do you use the other more manual version?
Oh. I guess you could also remap the keyboard shortcuts in Premiere to fit what is the easiest for your charachorder one? Btw: I have been editing my vids for my channel using nothing but my keyboard and LoupeDeck over the past 4 years. I don't have a mouse :) (It is a wrist-killer)
Yup, you could do that as well to make it easier on you. I kinda want to buy a LoupeDeck now. lol
Question: I'm new to this. Would you go for the new Master Forge, or the CharaChorder One? The Masters Forge looks more solid.. less ergonomic. What do you think?
play nitro type until you get banned
Yes
Don’t let him see the ATM
You need to have a way to reset passwords to access your website!!!!!!!!!!!!!
*qwerty
I know, that was a typo while I was editing the video. Thanks for pointing it out though
@klintwitha-kcharachorder3336 Also try out stenography/ a stenography keyboard! The keyboard has letters for beginning, the middle, and the end of the word so you press all the keys at once!
on qwerty maby hes just not good i think its a skill isiue
I guess you dont need the charachorder to use vimium...
Is it worth the hassle of switching for a developer?
There are a few devs in the Discord chat who like it, but I imagine the learning curve to be steep. I would join the Discord server and ask them about their experiences.
is there open-source chord libraries?
Hey I don't understand your question, but i'll attempt. Their are built-in chords that are public, and you can add to them. In terms of the engine that powers them, I don't think it is.
Another reviewer pointed out that none of it open-source. Charachord told him it wouldn't be as it was all proprietary.
Thanks for continuing to make your videos. I just got my CharaChorder last week. I am not a touch typer. So far, I am focusing on Character entry but this video will have me re-thinking moving on to chords sooner than I expected. BTW, do you have a link to the CC1 key map? I thought I bookmarked it but cannot find it. Cheers!
Hey there. Thanks for the comment. and congratulations on your cc1 purchase. If you learn to chord early, I would start with the easy chords first to minimize frustration. Is this what you are looking for? charachorder.notion.site/Quick-Reference-Guide-332fc412923f4bc7a36731590277c875
@@klintwitha-kcharachorder3336 100%!! Thank you!!
Stenography was invented more than 100 years ago, yet people continue to write using typing methods, largely because it is a proprietary product. To truly advance new technology like this, it should not be proprietary. Nowadays, voice-to-text and AI are also in the game.
The founder of CharaChorder is a big fan of steno and there are a few steno users who also use the cc1. We do have huge respect for them for their skills. They say after transcribing with steno, they still have to rewrite their work with a qwerty so that others can read it.
@@klintwitha-kcharachorder3336 In my opinion, developing writing skills with a keyboard is a process that cannot be accomplished in just a day or a month, especially at the speed typically achieved. Therefore, these skills should not be limited to proprietary products. For instance, if someone develops their writing skills using CharaChorder and one day their CharaChorder breaks, they would have to purchase the same keyboard to continue using their writing skills. This is similar to what happens with a stenotype machine. In comparison, if they use a mechanical keyboard that supports NKRO and Plover, they would be able to replace the keyboard with any mechanical keyboard from any brand and still retain their skills. This is just my opinion on how to develop and embed skills with a lower risk of being locked into a single device. CharaChorder could produce an excellent product version with all the features to make it even better. At the same time, they could make it open-source, so people do not have to worry about their skill capabilities being limited to a single device. They would be able to customize if needed, following the same approach as the Open Steno Project.
Completetion of text is no problem, I use ergonomic arrows because this, but AUTO-completation of text is complicated. Anyway, ergonomic is important and this keyboard is very ergonomic. My doubt is tactility and linearity of this keyboard. Levers allow arbitrary movements and remove the firmness, the levers need to be restricted to moving in only two directions (four orientations).
Tactility is actually pretty good. Our main concern is the durability of the stems (I've had to do a few warranty claims because the stems their broke or got lose). They're working on version two of the CC1 called the Master's Forge with more durable switches: forgekeyboard.com/products/masters-forge
@@klintwitha-kcharachorder3336 the directions of stick need to be restricted, this is important. Let me see a example... car gear! Yes, for example, when you shift the car into gear, the directions are restricted, meaning you cannot move the car gear lever in any direction. I hope you understood.
@@preguica_net the cc1 isn't that strict, but it also not lose like a joystick. It goes in four cardinal directions and the probability of screwing up is low.
@@klintwitha-kcharachorder3336 Interesting, so the CC lever has a soft restriction, i.e. it's easier to push only in 4 orientations?
@@preguica_net yup. You could do diagonal presses but it's so hard that some of us CC1 users never do it.
Hello i m struggling to choose between the cc one or the cc literally what do you recommend me to choose ? Did you try the cc lite ? If yes how much wpm did you reached with it ?
Hey there, I haven't tried the cc lite, but from what I heard, chording with it involves a lot of elbow movents. I recommend getting the cc1 instead because even though the learning curve is steap, a lot of has find it to be comfortable to use. The common phrase I read on the Discord chat about the cc1 is "Came for the speed, stayed for the comfort"
The fact this video exists makes me happy I was specifically looking for this application of the keyboard. I was wondering if I can buy Raspberry Pi, keep it in my backpack, wear Quest 3 googles and touch the grass while coding in terminal without need for mouse.
Hello you re videos are amazing just one question do you think that characorder one is faster than a normal keyboard for programming ?
Hey there, sorry I'm just seeing this. It's going to be challenging at first but once you get used to it, it will make your workflow faster. But the main benefit that lots of users are finding is actually the comfort. The common saying in the Discord chat is "We came for the speed, stayed of the comfort."
The technology, "chording", is not new and already has changed text input forever (stenographers do it for a living). For years there has been an open software called Plover that even lets you do it with any NKRO keyboard. I love the CC idea and I just bought one, but it's just a combination of stenography and the DataHand, both old ideas.
can you make a discord I would really love to be in it for charachording stuff
Hey there. We already a DIscord chat. Feel free to visit - discord.gg/yDHgJEDQ
Hi, pl pin me 😊😊😊❤❤❤❤
Why?
Great idea! Thanks for sharing it
When you're chording, does it matter the order whereby you insert the letters? Like if you are chording "wto", but in your attempts for speed, you do "wot" or something like that where the order is a little off but they are all coming down at about that the same time? Will it still register the right output or does the input order have to be on point?
The order won't matter as long as you type mash the right characters altogether. Check these two videos out where I explain more about them: ruclips.net/user/shorts3LWjM3y4nfE?si=TFil12-DqyrZOsVX ruclips.net/user/shortsma6TTOfagdA?si=j_zfOdZCTvFoTAY6
Thank you!@@klintwitha-kcharachorder3336
Do you chord on a normal keyboard or the custom black thing. Do you have an opinion on which is faster? It seems good to first start on a normal keybaord
I use the cc1 - the custom black thing. You can type normal letters with it too. There are some who use the normal keyboard (cc lite) and the like it. The drawback for using it is that your wrist and arms move a lot
I think the Custom Black Thing should be its official name 😊
How do you do chords for all words? Do you have to memorize all the words in the english dictionary? I don't quite understand how it works since there are so many words. How do you translate normal individual letters to every single word in the dictionary?
We don't do chords for all words, only the ones that are available. For example, the cc1 comes with pre-installed chords for the first 500 most used words (when I bought mine). You can make your own custom chords for the words you use most as well. I personally have close to 2,000 chords in my library, some have more. You can also chord phrases. I saw a case on Discord where the user made chords for sentences like "Have a nice day" and "Thank you" because he types them a lot on this email.
Gotcha thank you, so you need to memorize every single word or phrase@@klintwitha-kcharachorder3336
When you are chording, do you have to press the spacebar key everytime, or does it insert a space after every chorded word? Is there software to be able to chord with a normal keyboard?@@klintwitha-kcharachorder3336
How fast do you type on a querty keyboard like normal and how fast with chords?
Hey there, I type at about 80 wpm on a keyboard and about 100 on the CharaChorder. I have been typing on the qwerty for 22 years and only about 1 year on the CharaChorder
Thank you. How are you supposed to know the chords for all possible words??? You're supposed to memorize every single combo for every single English word? Or you just memorize the ones you use the most? And by default you use normal single letters?@@klintwitha-kcharachorder3336

Paralegals going love this.
So custom chords is like adding a chord to a dictionary in a steno keyboard? Can you transfer these dictionaries to another CharaChorder?
I don't know much about Steno. And yes, when you make your chord library, you can export it and transfer it to another cc1.
Perfect! Thanks!
Sorry I'm just seeing this. And no problem!
why cant i access the charatype site ? can you post the link for it here ?
I need to make an update video - the person who was running closed it down unfortunately 😭. I really loved that tool
@@klintwitha-kcharachorder3336 you maka the update video yet?
I have a few questions because I'm really intrigued by it and planning to try it out. I hope you can answer them Are chords like shortcuts for words? Does every word have a chord? How about different languages? Are there chords for it?
Hey there. Chords aren't necessarily shortcuts - there are words that can be chorded in full while some have to be abreciated. There are standard chords built in the cc1, but you can also make your own chords. In terms of different languages, it should be useable but it looks like there are some nuances you need to be aware of. I highly suggest joining our discord chat - we have a few people in there from other countries that might be able to help you.
