Hornady precision hunter Vs. Hornady outfitter.

Listen to your gun, not what you read on the internet. For the longest time I heard how the eld-x was the premier bullet out of the 6.5 creedmoor. Turns out my tikka had a different plan!
Tikka t3x superlite accuracy review 6.5 creedmoor.

Here recently I wanted to explore other options of my all around back country set up. One item I often skimmed over was my rifle set up. This off season I decided to go with a light weight set up while keeping my fingers crossed that it would keep its accuracy. This tikka does not disappoint!
High country mule deer with some body!

This buck wasn't but 22 wide, not huge in the horn but definitely one of the biggest bodied deer iv ever seen in the high country. He actually army crawled out of his bed to slip out undetected while stalking him.

It would be nice to see what it does with 20-30 shots. The MOA guarantee is pretty much meaningless. That just means they are able to produce one 3 shot group. You need more like 20-30 shots (with cooling of course) to really know what a rifle is capable of before taking a long range shot on a game animal. Very doubtful it can keep all 30 within 1".
Hornady outfitter is loaded with a far better hunting bullet for big heavy game but goats have VERY thin skin. People think goats are bulletproof and end up poking holes in them over and over. I’ve guided many and the fastest kills are with deer type bullets . The eldx is a great choice because it opens up fast . Either way …have a great time !
I agree with you 100%! Too many people use a tougher bullet and it just seems to pass through the goats. I shot mine with a Hornady SST and it dropped like a sack of potatoes
Didn’t see whether the rifle is threaded or not or if you have a muzzle brake, but your rifle has a considerable muzzle rise, up and to the left. Again, consistency is key with any shooting position or equipment. Consider a muzzle brake such as the Ultradyne Apollo Max or similar or just shoot it without one. You may get a bit more consistency if you preload your bipod a bit! I was successful at downing a cow elk last week with the Hornady 162 gr ELDX. One double lung shot was all I needed at 407 yards with my SAKO S20 in 7mm Rem Mag. I tested different bullets and can honestly say that a rifle tends to like one bullet over other weights and even brands. I trust Hornady’s brand and their 4DOF app. Hasn’t failed me yet!
Interesting now that I've done bought the precision hunter ugh
How did your first video shooting eld x have different results???
It looks like to me, esp when compared to Federal ammo, that the factory velocity on Hornady is significantly slower when shot thru the same barrel. And haven't you come close to factory velocity with more Federal ammo? I am beginning to wonder if they are skimping on powder given the crazy situation with ammo since Covid began...
How did you do on your sheep hunt? Have any pictures or video? Thanks for sharing.
Hands down best ammo I have shit out of my Ruger 6.5 go wild addition
Finally found me some hornady outfitter for my tikka 270wsm...pumped up to try them. My first all copper bullet
Good review. Just a little bit of info but don’t believe what the box tells you about velocity. Best to chronograph it yourself out of your rifle. Most factory ammo is way less than what it claims on the box. This is because they use 24” to 26” test barrels and not real world hunting barrels. Also the deviation between shots if too extreme causes wider groups. Maybe a good bullet and hand loading could produce better groups where you have more control over deviations
Hornady 👎
I have it in 7mm rem mag,i'm very comfort with this rifle
I have 1 too. What ammo do you shoot? What are your groups like?
Curious how the Creedmoor did on the goat, I shot my goat with a 7 LRM and with well placed shot it refused to die. They are really tough. I would think the Outfitter ammo is definitely the way to go.
Another 6.5 shitmoor video.
You are a blessed man.
Thank you 😊
Interesting. My custom 6 mm creedmoore will shoot 3 inch groups with the precision hunter ammo at 600 yards.
Great video
Dude talking about your shooting position SMH, that’s some good shooting man.
New subscriber here. Great video. I'm a little surprised at your results. But I own the exact same gun you have there. I might have to try some of that Outfitter stuff in mine. I shoot the Norma Bondstrike 143 gainers out of mine about 1/2 inch 3 shot groups. Very happy with the gun!!
So strange. Normally gmx are not as accurate. Cool it is. Eldx is fancy cup and core with a tip.
If you hand load that ELD X 143gr would tighten right up
Looks like you punched those holes with a screwdriver 🪛 lol jks great video you know what I'm shooting this November. Awesome set u as well cool video 👍🏾
How did that ammo work for you on game?
How much for a box for my 300 H - H 70 W.M.
Anyone firing tikka ctr in creed what factory ammo ye use?
Good video I’m starting to switch over to the outfitters mysekf
Good video impressive group I have a tikka t3 roughtech that grouped .23 inch with the precision hunter, other factory loads are about an inch….just got a box of the outfitter ammo and am excited to try it out !!
how did the gmx bullet perform on the goats ?
I actually shot my goat front on through the chest, exited the rear ham. So definitely had some penetration!! It didn’t take one step either so I would say job well done.
Nice video...tilkas are incredible. I have 3...223 lite stainless, 308 lite blued, 6.5cm stainless varmint. They are all deadly accurate if I do my part. And your right...it doesn't seem to matter what you feed them...they are all shooters...Easy to handload for as well for that exact reason, and not fussy. My last group with factory fed ammo in my 223 was ⅜" at 100. My 308 shot ¾ @ 200 with factory ammo. I haven't had a chance to develop loads yet as my gear is all packed up due to lack of room in my house ATM. but looking forward to getting back into it. Cheers...keep shooting.
I have a Tikka T3x tac and it shoots perfect with precision hunter. I tested with other Hornady ammo and it shoots perfect with all of them but the optic is setup with precision.
Just bought my superlight today in .243. Hope mine shoots as well. Great video.
Does the plastic trigger gaurd bug you ? Ive always wanted a tikka but i dont like ther stocks and that plastic trigger gaurd...
Never had an issue with it? Never heard of any issues with them either personally.
Got the same rifle, I'd recommend the McCarbo trigger spring, cheap easy, they have a install vid takes 10 minutes top... And it's a 2lb trigger or less, super crisp and light.
weird, with that rifle being a 1/8 twist you’d think it’d do better with the heavier round
I just got a Tikka T3x Superlite but in .308. I'm still waiting on the scope (Primary Arms GLx 4-16x50mm) but once its on, I'll break it in at the range. I'm starting with Nosler 168 grain. I have 1/11 twist so I don't want to start too heavy and long?
Just because your gun doesn’t shoot the ELD-X well does not make it a bad round!!! I shoot 1/4 in groups at 100 with my Griffin & Howe Highlander and consistently ring the 12 inch iron plate at 500.
Not at all! I shoot the 200 gr Eldx out of my 300 wm. Just have to take what the gun tells you to do.
I used the 180 grain gmx from my commercial mauser 98 centurion 123 30. 06 and its a winner. Drops deer in their tracks so im sure it will take down elk and moose just as easy. I have mine set for 3 inches high at 100 yards for a 230 yards zero. Perfect round or hunting, 65 a box, abit expensive but its all worth it when that first bullet goes into a deer, elk, moose, caribou. I love hunting.
Just goes to show you how each rifle is different in what ammo it likes!
Dang, my weatherby loves the 143 eldx. All bullets were touching at 100 yds.
Good video, but I would rather see the targets instead. Don't know why most videos shows the shooters!
Video skills… or lack there of haha!
Great video exactly what I needed to know keep it up Buddy
Groups don’t lie! Set our opinion to the side and let the gun do the selecting.
Isn’t it a sweet gun to shoot? I love mine. Had to get the walnut stock. Beautifully crafted. The first time I shot mine I got just under MOA and I don’t know the gun yet. I guess they were serious about their guarantee.
My Tikka shoots those 143 gr ELDX like a dream!! 5 shot groups everything touching 1/2” groups
I have the same gun, and mine wouldn’t shoot the factory precision hunter eldx ammo either. However, after reloading using this bullet and getting it closer to the lands, a whole different story dime size groups. All you accomplished here was seeing what COAL the gun likes.
Think that was kind of his goal captain obvious
I have 30-06 tikka T3X absolutely love it
Does the stainless barrel rust?
It does. I have this one in 30-06 and it developed rust on the barrel right where I touch the barrel where I pick it up. I have since put on some rust preventative and no more problems. Accuracy is impressive.
i guess if he wanted to shoot the eldx he will have to hand load and find the power and charce weight i here they dont like to go to fast i just picked up the same gun for my kid have to get rings and a scope then i will try the 143eldx thats the bullet i would like to shoot
Thanks for comparison, great shooting too. I've been shooting 6.5 ELDX handloads, but thinking of switching to GMX (all copper) to hunt in Cali. I know this was over a year ago, but how did the GMX work for you on your hunt? Effective kill power? Thanks
I just changed to gmx bullets in my .300 win mag this year. I hand load them super accurate and damn at some penetration. Killed a big doe yesterday 275 yards solid shoulder hit massive wound channel and was a complete pass thru with a large exit hole. I know the 300 is much bigger than the 6.5 but still a deep penetrating bullet none the less. Would recommend this bullet to any hunter with any caliber.
@@joshradford1989 thanks a lot, much appreciated. Yeah anything in .300 will kick some ass! I just picked up some of the newer Hornady GMX 6.5 140 gr. Still working on load development but so far looks promising. Note they’re pretty long bullets so current loads are compressed a little in 6.5 cm cases. Too bad not a whole lot of load data yet for these newer GMXs. My buddy’s 6.5 PRC is extremely potent too with a little lighter recoil than the comparable long actions.
You might ditch the 9 inch bipod and use a bag as a front support and tuck your support hand under the rear of the stock, your position although may be steady looking through the scope probably doesn’t offer good follow though. You may get get results out of the eld x by building a better position and getting rid of the bipod, however your groups were pretty decent with the other ammo so maybe it just doesn’t like it, my Tikka hammers with the eldx
Yep that Rifle was all over the place, even to the point it tipped off the left bipod leg.
