George Lucas's Inspiration for the Force
The Force is of course such a complex, ever changing thing in Star Wars. What does it all mean though? What is the "living Force" opposed to the "cosmic Force"? More importantly, where did George Lucas himself get these ideas from?

    The Jedi in the Prequels are not ignorant of the cosmic force. Funnily enough, Qui-Gon is actually far too obsessed with the cosmic force. The Jedi Council is more responsible and level-headed than he is. Qui-Gon was ready to swiftly abandon his padawan to take on a child who was far too old to meet the Jedi's recruitment standards, standards adopted to prevent situations like what Anakin ends up doing, falling to his base emotions. Fear, anger, hatred. So, as Lucas said, Qui-Gon is incorrect, and in my opinion, irresponsible. It's always good to have someone around that will do the right thing even if it means getting in trouble or risking what they have, but that doesn't make Qui-Gon's level-headed procedural Jedi counterparts arrogant or unbalanced. Lucas made it quite clear that the Jedi were not to blame for their fall, and said that there was little they could have done differently. Sidious really did have the cards stacked against them from the beginning. Anakin is the only one responsible, because he was unable to maintain his own emotions. As for balance, the reason balance occurs is not from some psychic colloquial agreement on which is more important, the cosmic/living force or both. Balance is disrupted by sufficiently powerful abuses of the Force's energy. The Dark Side is that abuse. Sidious and Plagueis are the cause of the imbalance mentioned in the Prequels and solved in the OT. The Force created Anakin specifically to destroy these 'Force Interlopers', i.e. Sidious and crew.

    • @bustedinsevenseconds1678
      @bustedinsevenseconds1678 12 дней назад

      While I mostly agree with the first part, the dark side is most definitely NOT required to be destroyed for there to be balance. The Sith, yes, as their existence is too powerful, but the dark side is natural and exists in nature. No where in Lucas’ quotes or ruminations about Star Wars does he ever say that the dark side needs to be wiped out.

    • @curzon9619
      @curzon9619 12 дней назад

      @@bustedinsevenseconds1678 Yes, actually, Lucas does blame the Dark Side for imbalance in his quotes. He says it's inherently selfish and that it is evil. When he says you need to keep it in balance or keep it in check, he means keeping your intrusive thoughts under control and having a handle on your emotions. “The Sith practice the dark side and are way out of balance. The Jedi aren’t as much out of balance because they’re the light side of the Force. They still have the bad side of the Force in them, but they keep it in check. It’s always there, so it can always erupt if you let your guard down.” ~ George Lucas, The Star Wars Archives: 1999-2005, 2020 “As evil begins to take over, it pushes the Force out of balance. It’s easier to succumb to evil than it is to be a hero and try to work things through on the good side. Evil is inherently more powerful--it doesn’t have the burden of worrying about other people.” ~ George Lucas, LA Times (2002) "That's what it really all comes down to in the end. You either live a compassionate life, or you lead a selfish life. And if you're going to be selfish, you're going to be unhappy. If you're going to be compassionate, then you're going to be happy. If you're compassionate, you're on the bright side, and you live a good life. Dark side, you turn into Darth Vader, and all is bad." ~ George Lucas, James Cameron's Story of Science Fiction, 2018 "It's more the old-fashioned version of good and evil -- the version that those of us who grew up in the '40s and '50s had, when there was a strong sense of evil because of World War II. That's one of the few times in history when the bad guys were very clearly delineated for us. There really was a fight for survival going on between pretty clearly good guys and bad guys." ~ George Lucas, Wired, 2005 "What happens when you go to the Darkside it [the Force] goes out of balance." ~ George Lucas [from the Lucas Video on the Force]. "For a Jedi there is no place for a rainbow Force," Luke said quietly. "There is no room for compromise. We walk the path of the light side, or we fall into darkness. There is no gray area, Ben." ~ Jedi Grand Master Luke Skywalker (Page 187 Fate of the Jedi, Book II: Omen) "..the Dark Side is more powerful. If you want the ultimate power you really have to go to the stronger side which is the Dark Side, but ultimately it would be your undoing." ~George Lucas, AotC DVD commentary track [during Shmi's funeral] "As George says, the dark side corrupts. So one couldn't 'stay in the middle' for long." ~ Matt Martin, Twitter (2017) "[Grey Jedi are] pretty much just a fan thing. It doesn't really make sense in the way the Force works." ~ Matt Martin, Twitter (2017) "What Lor is talking about isn't the idea of balance within an individual. It's the conceptual "balance of the Force." The dark corrupts and a normal being likely couldn't sustain a balance within themselves." ~ Matt Martin, Twitter (2018)

Do you have intrusive thoughts? Do you ever have the urge to hit someone when you're angry? Have your actions ever been determined by fear? Have you ever stolen something? Maybe you've only experienced one of these urges, but they are inherent to the human mind. Justify any of those behaviors? No. The Dark Side, i.e. our dark urges are INHERENT in every human being. But they are not NECESSARY to follow/act on. You keep it in check by reminding yourself of what is right and what is wrong. Any NORMAL and good-natured person is NOT going to humor the idea of using the Dark Side. They keep it suppressed via their moral compass and integrity. You start to justify even one wrongdoing, and soon enough, it can be easy to succumb to a whole lot of nefarious or misguided acts through a twisted or fearful lens of worldview. What you should know is that in the natural force, there IS no Dark Side. Make it uncapitalized. Write it as the "dark side." The Force, its energy, is synonymous with the Light Side. Capitalize that. The 'dark side' is merely our own negative urges used to twist the natural energy of the Force to perform selfish or harmful acts. You enslave the Force to your will. In contrast, when using the Light Side, you access that same energy, but you are not exerting your selfish will on the Force. Rather, you are allowing it to flow through you, becoming one with it. You're not altering it in any way. That's simply the base form of the Force. There is the Force, and there is the human concept of the 'dark side', i.e., selfish will. One is normal and natural, while the other is a violation of nature. Immortality, Sithspawn, violent storms or wormholes erupting from thin air, necromancy, etc. The Force doesn't permit these things. It doesn't want anyone using the Dark Side. Hey, my friend. Nice video! I liked it a lot. Two riffs if I may. First, as you'd guess, I resist the notion that the Jedi were in some way culpable in their fall because they were too into the cosmic force. I know that's a popular fan theory, but I truly don't see anything in Lucas' comments to support it, and I don't see it in the films themselves. And here's Lucas from a 1999 interview about Anakin and Qui-Gon. "I think it is obvious that he [Qui-Gon] was wrong in Episode I and made a dangerous decision, but ultimately this decision may be correct. The 'phantom menace' refers to the force of the dark side of the universe. Anakin will be taken over by dark forces which in turn destroy the balance of the Galaxy, but the individual who kills the Emperor is Darth Vader - also Anakin." (Cut Magazine). So the notion that Qui Gon is always right should also be nuanced. Maybe his focus on the living force led him to neglect the big picture(???) Secondly, another aspect of the cosmic force that we might also remember is that it is what we speak of when we talk about fate or destiny. Lucas is explicit on this too. In SW, people have freedom, but also are nudged by the force. I think it is the cosmic force that is behind the coincidences or synchronicities we find in Star Wars. Again, great video and thanks!

    I first saw Podracing when The Phantom Menace came out 25 years ago and thought that it was boring. However, Podracing grew on me over time, and I even bought the two used Podracing games for the PS2 and PS4 about three years ago. I saw the Riot Racing Episode from Bad Batch, it was a good plot and paid tribute to Podracing. There is a Podracing fan-made short film that came out last year and it's pretty good. Emperor Palpatine already killed the Jedi, so I don't understand why he decided to go after Podracing, they didn't do anything wrong or caused problems. Imagine if the racers had taken a stand against an army of stormtroopers during the 19 years, it would have been pretty cool to see that happen. Podracing needs to make comeback with its own movie sometime in the future. The plot should about the person who created racing sport, and how it gathered its first generation of racers. There is also a 2001 Jedi Quest book called Dangerous Games, where Anakin takes part in a Podracing event. He even comes face to face with the son of Sebulba, who wants revenge on Anakin for defeating his father.

    This game was neat and fun, and seemed like it had super low stakes all the way through, even for Kay. The only two times I thought the stakes were really raised were when Nix was kidnapped (ready to burn down the entire Hutt cartel) and when ND-5 went full Terminator trying to kill you while pleading with you to run. My biggest complaint was that nothing else you seemed to do had much consequence, either for the story or even for the side quests. I feel like siding with the Ashiga against Crimson Dawn did nothing to change Q'ira's interaction with you afterwards. Aside from the occasional cosmetic upgrade, there was not much benefit for going all-in on a particular syndicate over another. Even if you were in bad with a cartel, you could always make it into their compounds once way or another to complete even minor side quests or treasure hunts. And worst of all, the consequences for the Imperial wanted system were a joke. It should really matter if the Empire seems a death squad after you. They should come find you no matter where to try and do, and I really feel like killing that squad shouldn't clear your wanted status with them. This is my only real gripe about an otherwise really fun game. I just wish it felt like it mattered, even to the characters in the game. As always a great discussion, looking forward to the next one.

The decisions really didn’t matter at the end of the day outside of your affiliation score with each faction (which you could just fix later). Maybe there’ll be more consequences with choices in the upcoming DLCs (but probably not). Thanks for watching as always!😁

I would have liked to play this game and take notes and then ask them cuz playing through i had soooo many comments and opinions. Im a hater. I enjoy playing old games but i recognize when a game isnt working very good. Im good at breaking games especially old ones just playing it normally and getting constant glitches. I could play the game until padame only has that the taser then i had to cheat for invincibility but i saw a playthrough of ps1 version where a guy had guns for that level so idk what is going on with that. Overall this game is so trash but the pc version was the first time ever as a kid seeing 3d graphics so it has such an imprint in my mind. If they could go back and finnish the game and not worry about time or constraints i would love that and think that would be worth doing it could be an epic game if it was bigger and like the mos eisly level
