Anyone else see wtf that was at 4:17-4:18? Loch ness or what lol
Want to sell it to me? Looking for a clean 04-06 Baja rigged just like this.
Sounds great you still have it ? Or do you have a new toy
I have a Baja 20' 1997.. I LOVE IT!!!
You still running your outlaw? i have a newer islander looking to do something similar but not sure how big I can fit
Trim tabs 80 sport give you another 10 inch of stability off the transom with out using them maybe a few clicks down get rid of the chime walk
Awesome boat. How much would you say you have invested in engine and drive modifications?
The engine was around $12,000, the Alpha SS was around $6,000.
Chine walks
QUESTION IS HOW MUCH LOL ?
Shouldn't run the engine with the outdrive in trailer (up) position. It's Kind'a hard on the shaft joints...Cool boat.
Danm she sounds soooo good!!! How long is your boating season up there? I mean i was up in saint paul for school at 3m in october and it was 29 degrees and snowing haha. U must have like a month or 2 boating season up tjere haha
what a beauty!!!!! Cool vid!
Sounds great! What manifolds are you using? What size is that carb?
I've since changed to CMI headers. I'm meeting with my engine builder today and will let you know about the manifolds and carb. The original manifolds were chosen because they were light and less restrictive. Thanks for the comment.
So, the original manifolds were Imco Thumpers and the carb is 750 cfm marine.
Here is a video of the first startup in the boat Jon. facebook.com/brandon.maxwell.18659/videos/447499058921089/
Nice! Very Nice. Now the fun starts. Let me know how it runs. I've tested mine with the new CMI headers and hit 78 mph on GPS. Builder thinks it'll do 80 tweaked a bit.
Thats awesome Jon!!
Does your guy still have the alpha ss drive around?
He's been collecting them for a while now, so I'm sure he does. That drive will make quite the difference on your boat. Here's his business phone and email address: Sam's Marine and Performance - 651-439-7001 - sam@samsmarineandperformance.com Tell Scott or Sam that I referred you.
Awesome! Thank you!
Haywood, yep....it is a handful. I'm increasing the horsepower this summer, so not sure what I'm going to do with it. My goal is to hit 80 mph, but I think I'll need tabs or hydraulic steering. We'll see.
Extend your plane tabs by 3" in length
I had a 20 Outlaw back in '03. It was stock 305 and ran about 60. Is yours a bit of a handful at 76? I think I'd want full hydraulic steering at those speeds. Looks good though and must be a blast!
Would you get the outlaw or hammer
Brandon, the link you sent me is not working. Can you send again?
Oh....one more thing.....why a 360 rather than a 383?
Brandon, Just talked to my engine builder and the 406 does have a roller cam and Dart aluminum heads. He also asked what drive you are using. He has an Alpha SS drive that he said he can build for you if you'd like to do that. That's what I'm using and I got about an additional 6-8 mph just by going that route. Also, are you putting headers on that 360? If you are, what are you using. That's the next step for me.......I think.
Sounds great! I'm going to share your post with the guy that did my engine. I think he'll find it interesting and I'll pass along and of his comments. Where are you, by the way. I'm in International Falls, MN on Rainy Lake.
I'm in Pt St Lucie, FL.
Brandon, I'm turning between 5000K - 5100K.
Thank you so much for replying. I am gonna try a 25 p prop like you have but I am going to stick with the 1.62:1 drive gear as I'm shooting for 5500 rpms wide open. also if you dont mind me asking, are you running a roller cam, and what heads are you running? Thanks again!
Brandon, I'll have to talk to my engine builder on this. I'll get back to you. Are you building a 406? What hp will you end up with? This boat gets real squirrely at about 70 mph--lots of chine walking. I thought about trim tabs, but they impede the speed. Just have to back off if it gets too crazy.
I am building a 360 ci l31 based roller engine with afr aluminum fully cnc'd heads, lunati voodoo roller cam, stainless marine aluminum manifolds with stainless risers. 30 lb injectors and custom tuned by whipple superchargers. I imagine it will be between 450 and 475 hp. I realize that your 406 is bar none when it comes to low rpm torque. I feel our combos with be somewhat similar, except for me not having the torque you have. I do however feel with the afr heads and voodoo cam and shorter stroke engine I should be able to rpm it a little harder then you and make up in horsepower what I will be lacking in torque compared to your build. But I cant tell you how nice it is to see someone doing some R & D on this boat as I cant find anyone else with a 450-500 hp outlaw 20. I feel pretty good about getting the same prop you currently have to achieve a 5500 rpm. Based on the math I have done, if I could hit your top speed with a 25p and a 1.62 drive I should be roughly 500 rpms higher then you are at that speed. Which would be perfect for me.
What is your rpm at 76 mph? I am building a 20 outlaw and you are the only guy I can find with a similar build.
XbenX0101, It has a custom built performance 406 ci Dart engine putting out 460 hp.
Man what a nice boat. Does it have the 7.4?
I had a stock 2003. Best she topped out at was 60 on GPS. It was a squirrelly 60, lol. I can't imagine 76 with that hull. She looks great and sounds even better. Nice!
Mine is absolutely squirrelly with two people and 50+ I can't imagine being in rough water with this boat
Extend the plane tabs by 3" I have a 03 outlaw with a 350 LS
I neglected to say that I have a GPS speedo in the boat, so I know that the 76 mph is accurate.
Jon Zeipen I would like to chat with you on your boat. I have a 1994 20ft Baja with a 400 plus hp engine. I added 280 trim tabs and all kinds of goodies. I'm playing with it currently and am curious on prop choices you have tried....
So far, I've got it to 76 mph. Thinking about adding headers and possibly trim tabs next. As you could see in the video, it has a tendency to chine walk when it hits about 70 mph.
Good luck taking that out of the ol20 especially with that big motor
Whats the outlaw top out at now?
