Stupid question, but are there drainage holes at the bottom, or is that bad and will cause bugs to get in?
A great question! Definitely add drainage holes. I usually use a small drill or screwdriver.
You can also leave the flower petals on the seed it doesn’t bother them any and actually adds nitrogen to the soil when the dried petals decompose
Great info, thank you!
Glad it was helpful!
If sprouting already, do I uncover and bring inside?
I wait until they are 3-4 inches to transplant.
👍🏼👍🏼
It's good to see that you're back. Always love watching your channel. Last year was the first time that I started trying to grow a big crop of onions ... and I killed them. I think I hit them too hard with Calcium Nitrate (something that was recommended by a very popular youtuber). Anyways, I am trying again this year with some Candy F1, Red Burgundy, Cabernet, Sierra Blanca, and Texas Grano. I live in NW NC 7b, so all are short/intermediates. Like you, I am really getting geared up for planting our taters! I just picked up our Kennebecs but my local supplier said that it will be another 2-weeks before our Pontiac Reds come in. Looking forward to your potato video.
Thanks! Yeah calcium isn’t what I think of when growing onions. If your soil is decent it should have plenty of calcium. I would stick with nitrogen early on and then a balanced formula. Or just a balanced all the way through. I love Candy Onions!
@fromdreamtoseed that's the thing that really surprised me, the calcium nitrate was heavy in Nitrogen (15.5-0-0), which I thought would do nothing but good??? Anyhow, I sure burned them up good; either that or they got too dry, but I still don't believe that was the issue. Have a great day.
Awesome info, full explanation in a short! Thank you
You're welcome! 💚
🧅 is a good starter for the a new year 🙂 !
Thanks!!! I actually starts my seeds today :) I love growing onions. Always more to learn. So thanks.
You’re welcome! Happy growing! 😊
Great video. One question, Are bunching onions the same as green onions? I’d love to see the curing video at the end of the season. Thank you and have a great day! ❤
Yes…as far as what I call bunching onions 😁. There are some perennial varieties, but not normally what I think of.
@ Thank you!!!
Thanks, exactly what I needed. In trying to grow onions this year.
You're welcome! Glad it helped.
Do they have to be stored in the darn or can I put them in my greenhouse?
Just cool and dry. Doesn’t have to be dark.
FAQs: -Can I use other types of containers or opaque milk jugs? Clear or semi clear containers work best. Juice containers work well too. Opaque milk jugs block a lot of light so the seedlings may get leggy. I don’t drink milk or tea, but neighbors and family are happy to give me theirs! -How will this work if I live in a very cold zone? The seeds will germinate when the soil temps get high enough. This will be later for colder zones, but still usually several weeks before they would germinate in the open. The cold really helps perennial seeds germinate (cold stratification). -What happens if the temperatures get really cold after they germinate? This is another reason I plant mostly cool season things. They can tolerate dips in temps. However, if you are concerned you can always bring the containers into a sheltered area until temps improve. -How often do I need to water them? It depends on your climate. I check them every few days. If the jug feels light, I’ll water using a spray bottle. You can also bottom water them in a tray of water. -When should I open the containers and transplant the seedlings? When the seedlings are 3-4 inches tall, separate and plant, or move them to larger container until ready for planting. -Do I need to harden the seedlings off before planting? Nope! That’s one of the benefits of this method. They were started outdoors so no need.
Better imo with added LIME juice. More flavor. Great recipe btw! Saved.
Ooohhh I’m trying that next!!
Add yeast and make your own actual ginger ale. Its so good.
I think that’s more ginger beer, but that sounds delicious too!!
I hope nobody confuses the ginger syrup for a urine specimen. That cup looks like it was pulled off the shelf at a hospital laboratory.
lol as we don’t normally keep urine in the kitchen I think we are safe 😏
I make it with my honey or maple syrup. You should try making ginger beer too--it's fantastic!
Original recipes are the Best 🙂 ! Thank You Jessica
This channel comforts me so much❤
4 cups of refined white sugar hahah thats crazy
It’s a bulk recipe for the syrup. That’s probably enough syrup for 2 dozen servings.
@@fromdreamtoseed Fair call, that makes sense.
To jazz it up, what spices could I add?
You can add salt. I think cinnamon or allspice would be interesting..I’ve never tried anything else with it. Let me know if anything works well!
I’ll try making simple syrup and adding the ginger juice extracted from the 2 cups of ginger.
That sounds delicious!
Cool. How long does the ginger syrup last and where does it get stored?
In the freezer about a year. In the fridge a week or two
Hawai’i says, nice!🤙🏾🇺🇸💜❤️💯💕
You lost me at 4 cups of sugar. Since the beginning of covid I have been seeping fresh ginger lemon and raw honey and drinking a cup of it a day
It’s a bulk recipe for the syrup. Only a small amount of the syrup goes into each glass of ginger ale. But if I’m making the syrup I figure I might as well make a lot and freeze it.
That’s too much damn sugar
It’s a bulk recipe for syrup…and I made enough syrup for probably two dozen glasses of ginger ale.
Awesome, awesome, awesome!!! Thank you!
You're welcome! 😄
Ty. I'm going to use monk fruit and ser how that turns out!
That’s a great idea! Let me know how it turns out.
looks delicious!!
By the way I drink the when I’m not sick too. So delicious!!! Ginger syrup 2 cups peeled, grated ginger 8 cups water 4 cups granulated sugar -Add water, sugar, and ginger to a large pot. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to a simmer. Let mixture simmer for 45-60 minutes. Pour cooled mixture through a mesh strainer into a bowl. Store syrup in fridge for week or the freeze for 6 months. Ginger Ale Ice Club soda Lemon juice (optional) -Add 8-10oz of club soda to ice. Then add ginger syrup. Start with a tablespoon, stir, then add more as preferred. Add lemon juice to taste (about a teaspoon per 8oz)
Can I do this with cut flowers and Sunflowers?
Yes. It will work with most seeds. I’ve found the best results though with cool season veggies and flowers, herbs, and perennial flowers
Beautiful ❤❤❤
Can you tell me which lettuce tomatoes and onions or the easiest to grow. 🤔😋
Cherry tomato varieties are very easy to grow. Patio tomato varieties stay small and are easy to manage. Any determinant tomato variety. Black Seeded Simpson lettuce is very easy. It’s a leaf lettuce so you can harvest as many leaves as you want rather than waiting for a head to grow. It handles heat better than other varieties too
Yum😊
This is the video I was looking for....thank you. My carrots end up all twisted and shallow.
Blend the banana peels
🌻 3 great tips for my list! THANK YOU 😊
The music in the background is too loud. I would like to know what you were saying
Thanks for the feedback! 💚
I also want to do more with covercrops this year! I’m following!
Nice garden harvest ❤
❤
iam from Bangladesh but you video beautiful always whaching you video wow just wow you vegetables garden ❤❤
Beautiful fruit ❤
Hi, there seems to be some myths that have been passed on in the gardening world. Great advice about planting lettuce on the north side of peas.
There sure are, but I'm hoping to clear some of them up.
Beautiful harvest
Even in winter ❄️ You garden looks so healthy 🌻
What is that oyank
Less reward, my ass. Yield is not the only factor that matters. That seems to be a difficult concept for some.
That's very important information 🍟 Thank You Jessica 🙂
