Def going to try. Having a whining sound when I’m I accelerate. Not sure what it was but thinking it was the serpentine belt but I’ll get the pulleys as well. I’m now hitting 75k miles on my 2016 e350
Can Spray some w40/pb blaster on the pulleys and belt . Like just spray around the pulleys whilst they’re on to see if it gives lubricantion ??as my Merc is making that whiny sound , sure it’s the pulleys or alternator !! I’d rather spend on them before assuming it’s the trans !
It’s not easy to diagnose tbh !!! So i wouldnt waste the time & money …could try change alternator - if its not that , could be transmission etc - so get rid !!
Is it really that bad? Does it do any additional damage to the car? i have the same whine but i dont want to spend any more money on the car. That sound doesnt really bother me a lot, if it doesnt do any additional damage, ill just let it be. It kinda sound like a supercharger whine lmao
My Mercedes has the same issue, I went at least to 4 different mechanics and they told me it could be: steering pump, ac compressor, transmission, bla, bla, bla, I bought the serpentine tensioner so we'll see what happens!! Amazing video!!🙌
Just picked up a used salvage C300 with 62k miles making the exact same noise. Your video was spot on and helped me make the decision to buy the car. Replaced the pulley and she sounds great now. Thank you!
thank you, ive done changed the power-steering on my 2010 e350 4matic and the same issue was there but after inspecting myself i can hear it coming from the idler $900 down the drain......
Great video. This noise is precisely what my S class came back with after Mercedes has done B Service! You bring the car and it comes back better on 5 things and worst on 1. Sometimes I wonder what happens to your car when it disappears at the drop and you pick it up the same day. Because S class are well noise insulated this noise sounds very quiet inside but you can pick it up. Initially you think it comes via radio but no. It is revs dependant and this video perfectly shows what it is.
I have a whooshing sound inside the cabin while driving more than 20km per hour, no noise when idle. What could it be? The noise is very uncomfortable when driving in long roads.
It could be a number of things. Alternator, Tensioner pulley, or even something in the trans. Most common one is the pulley. Spray some w40/pb blaster on the pulley and see if the sound goes away.

Whats the part number?
what about second idle pulley? How to replace it, it is blocked by air intake ...
Just take off the intake or your saying it’s begging the manifold

Did you solve?
Never got resolved as the car broke down on the day i was purchasing a BMW !!! Sold the merc that month luckily , it was a motor issue though

Link for part please and is a special socket needed? Or any metric socket work?
E-Tork... in this vídeo E-12
How did you pinpoint the noise?
Never showed what the problem sounds was. Need to explain more as you are installing

Did you get a burnt metal smell too? Mine seems higher pitched
I’m getting a weird smell, also the noise on my new video which is now quite frequent.. garage got no idea
@@iOllie mine ended up being my alternator.
Do you have a video of the sound mate I'm having a nightmare diagnosing mine 🤦♂️
A 17mm socket does nt fit nor 18mm or 19mm. Its seems to be a special knerl screw.
It's called E Torx. Very common on my cars at least (European cars).
