    2" strut spacers, trailing arm spacers, adjustable lateral links, Rear camber bolts, and STI control arms on 215/70/16 ET35 is what I'm running now. No rubbing what so ever. Also run a 215/65/17 winter tires on similar back spaced wheels but I think they're a little wider than the stockers. Also fit great. It looks like a slightly bigger tire will clear the struts but it will be close. Anyone out there running a 28.5" or similar sized tire on stock struts with no other mods but what I listed? The STi control arms do a good job and moving the tire forward so not worried about rubbing on the pinch weld.

    I'm considering buying an outback but I'm put of by the real offload performance of the standard outback, even the newer ones that brake a slipping wheel to transfer torque to wheel with a grip, in my opinion that's not much use as the wheel with grip will drive at 2x normal speed or double gear ratio will will cause engine stall. LSD or lock up differ is a much better method.

      @@martinmuldoon603 yeah I think a lot of the stuff that used to be mechanically achieved is now done electronically. I agree with you, I think a limited slip or a locker is far superior in almost every way for off-road use. The only downside I can think of is people not liking the sound from the locker during daily driving. But other than that it's fully worth it in my opinion

    Ouf! So glad it’s not « Trash » but in fact… « Trash » 🤣 I just ordered one full kit and have yet to receive it. Then RUclips algorithm probably spied on me and push me this video! I chose Primitive because it’s apparently the one with least effect on your ground clearance. Can’t wait to install them all on my ´24 OBW. Cheers 🍻

      @@clappedoutsubieshoopties2216 I'm not lowering my WRX, instead I plan on skid plates, front end aero (or protective) kit, typical power and reliability mods, and will eventually have a separate set of off-road capable wheels and tires that can handle transitions from improved to unimproved surfaces at speed. I've never understood the aesthetic appeal for lowering a WRX to the point it's handicapped going over a speed bump. Lowering helps with handling, but this is a rally inspired car. I'm also looking into bullbars for the front, wish there were more options for the VB.

    Was the rear diff original an open diff or LSD? Im just curious if this install will be different on an SG Forester XT, which has an LSD rear diff... Also, I heard you have to change your driving style with an auto locker, is that true? Specifically, that you have to get use to coasting through turns because if you gas it through a turn the locker will engage, causing a jolt and possibly crash because the car will suddenly understeer like crazy due to the rear tires being locked together and pushing forward under power... so no spirited road driving and fast cornering from time to time?

      My original diff was an open diff, then I swapped it out for an LSD, then I decided to buy the locker. So I just put it in my original open diff. But yes you'll want to source an open diff to use for the locker. Which shouldn't be too hard! You do want to change your driving style, but not nearly as much as people seem to think and it's mainly for comfort reasons. I actually hammered the throttle through a turn recently to see if the tires would chirp or anything. Didn't feel much. But I drive mainly off-road and it's not a fast car at all😅 I would personally just avoid any spirited driving in the snow or in other situations that may pose a risk. But that hasn't been my experience so far. I also own a Torq locker in one of my jeeps and it also handles great even in rwd with the locker. I think the concerns people will tell you about are blown out of proportion in most cases.

    Interesting. In Europe, all early Forester Manuals have an additional low gear box (except turbo), 5 speed. My 2001 SF Turbo, is a 5speed Auto. Prefer this over manual for offroading, too. Nice video, cheers!

      Yes! You guys got the dual range! We never got those in the US market unfortunately. We didn't even get turbo foresters until 2004 :( I'd love to have an 01 turbo like yours! But I agree. The autos are where it's at for offroading even over the dual range usually. The Subaru dual ranges don't go very low. You have any photos or videos of your car?

      @@clappedoutsubieshoopties2216 yea I did river crossing it fk up by bearing it's started grinding noise and wobble and both my rear rear axle cv boot torn. I stopped doing crazy over roading, just light easy trail. Can't offord to keep replacing parts.

      Absolutely. One of the best skid plates you can get! Figured I'd say something saucy to get people's attention. That being said, mine is now trash! I've slammed it into boulders, tree stumps, etc. Poor thing. But it served well.

    We do have the dual range available in Romania and everywhere in Europe. We got almost everything that japan got, although there are a lot of stuff that are japan exclusive, like forester sti and the higher power engines because they had to reduce them due to emission restrictions in Europe. For the pre-facelift SG and the SF versions the DR has a 1.447 reduction gear and for the SG facelift and probably also SH, a 1.196 reduction gear. The DR transmissions came exclusive with the 2.0 and in some cases 2.5 NA engines, the XTs got the 5MT transmission. My 2004 XT has a 5MT but i wish it had an auto or that it would be easy to swap an auto into it.

      Hey there, I'm not 100% sure if I understood your question correctly. I had to paste it into a translator. But I believe you were asking my opinion on the older foresters compared to the new ones. I really like the simplicity of the old models. But they aren't as powerful, comfortable, or as fuel efficient as the new ones. I guess it just depends on specific needs. But I absolutely love my 2006!

    I have had more debris from public roads hit my skid plates than I ever have debris and the ground impact them from driving on unpaved surfaces. That by itself has made them pay for themselves several times over. FYI, don't make the mistake of getting the Primitive Racing rock sliders, get some from RalliTEK, ADF, or someone else who can make properly-tough rock rails.

      Skid plates have literally saved me thousands of dollars😳 The Primitive rock sliders do seem a bit less robust than the RalliTEK options but they are about half the price. Maybe better served for light off-roading. I just use my pinch welds🤣

      Of all the budget kits out there, they seem to be one of the better ones. But from everything I've seen, they're copies of ADF and SLO kits for not much less than the real thing. also I don't think they're based in the US which is a big deal to me. I try to order parts thru companies that I can get good support from. I can't tell you how many times I've had a small issue during install and been able to call ADF or Primitive to get help. And any time there's been any sort of issue, they make it right.

    Have 06 forester 2in spacers an have the adjustable control arm i must have the adjustment out because left rear axle keeps pop out if diff. The tires are in line an running true however they are more to the front of the fender.

      I'm not certain without looking at it. What lift kit is it? The rear tires being pushed forward would make me thing that there aren't any trailing arm spacers installed which should correct that issue. As for the axle popping out, they do take some "ooomf!" to seat in the diff. I actually have to give them a little slam to seat them into the c clips in the diff and I'm over 200 lbs. It could be something that simple. Whoever had it out last may not have re seated it hard enough to lock it in.

      @@jodyprice420 Good to hear! I actually had a heck of a time seating my passenger side rear axle last time I had the diff out. Always something right? haha. The camber bolt will help if the lift caused positive camber (hopefully it has camber correction built in) but it won't do anything for the position of the tire in the wheel well. Let me know how she turns out!

    I just had a 3/16 Primitive Racing skid plate with the front lip and oil pan access plate installed on my 2024 Forester Touring. I went for this plate to hopefully prevent my wife from destroying the car. At $700.+ it's a bit pricey. Hoping it will give the car many years of good service.

      That's a really good choice! Skid plates have saved me a lot of money by preventing damage from on-road and off road hazards. I know many of the newer vehicle skid plates involve a bit more man hours and raw materials to build. But you guys definitely made the right call! Blake over at primitive doesn't ever release products that aren't top-notch

      @@clappedoutsubieshoopties2216 I had to take the plunge. As my now former 2017 Audi Q5 was totalled because the wife drove over a big rock. The damage was significant as the as the Steering Rack, Engine Cradle and 1 Complelete Exhaust were destroyed. Had that car been protected with a quality Skid Plate. I likely would be still driving it.

      @@user-mv3vf8jj1l that's so crazy! On newer vehicles it is even more important to protect the underside. On my older cars, it's not a huge expense even if I completely destroy the vehicle. But it's amazing how fast the repair bills can stack up on something that's relatively new. Glad to hear you got set up with a Primitive plate! Where was the rock that damaged the Audi? On the road or off pavement?

I actually witnessed a small Boulder roll off of the top of a tunnel and onto the roadway the car in front of me must have been driven by a wizard because they somehow avoided it by a couple inches. But it certainly would have totaled both of our cars had either of us hit it. A lot of people don't think about stuff like that. Sorry to hear about your audi, but welcome to the Subaru family and I'm hoping that it treats you guys really well 🙏🙏

    i have both a 4eat sf forester (na 2.5) and a 5mt sg forester (na 2.5). I love both. my first clutch only lasted 10k miles of abuse so I decided to put a 6 puck ceramic clutch on it and it helps a lot because it puts the power down even while slipping it to keep the rpm up climbing steep hills. the new clutch has already survived much more abuse than a brand new stock one. i installed a switch to lock the 4eat center diff. my 4eat is much better for actually enjoying the scenery off road because you can go slower. the 5mt is better for beating on and pushing the limits of what a subaru can do.

      That's awesome! Welcome to the SG club brother. I'm actually in the same boat as you. I've always owned 5 and 6 speed manual cars. This was the first vehicle that I intentionally purchased with an automatic transmission. I only did that because I washed my friend walk up the exact same trails as my 5-speed Forester struggled to climb them. It's nice to be able to let the torque converter do all the heavy lifting and avoid burning up the clutch. Thanks! Would love to see your Forester!

    Great video. Good to know that the 4EAT is the right transmission for the job. Too bad to hear the new CVT's just does not have the same push up the inclines. Great scenery BTW.

      The cvt's are still great but they definitely aren't designed to be hammered on unfortunately. They don't handle steep terrain well. For most other things they're just fine! It's a great place to live. I love the scenery. What kind of Subaru do you have?

      @@clappedoutsubieshoopties2216 2011 Forester with a first gen FB25 engine and a 4EAT. Had the usual first gen engine issues like leaking oil from seals, head gasket and worn or stuck piston ring, the last of which I still need to get to next time I take it apart. Or, maybe I’ll just get the latest short block and have a spare.

      @@hyojoonus I actually really like the SH Foresters. Great platform! Always a few kinks to sort out with the first iteration of a new engine. But still solid💪 I don't run an external cooler on it yet. But I definitely need to put one in it. I run one in my Jeep and suggest most Subaru offroaders do. I don't push the Forester hard these days but it's a good way to prolong the life of the transmission. I want to install an oil temp gauge to watch what those numbers look like. If it gets really hot, I may consider doing an oil cooler. But the car seems to run great as is. So we'll see! Is yours lifted?

      @@clappedoutsubieshoopties2216 Still on the original suspension, but I am considering Bilstein B6 dampers for a refresh and possibly Rallitek springs with just 1/2” lift for touring load and minor off-roading. I do have the oil and trans coolers on my old VW 1.8t and they solved the heat and the related performance degradation issues. I’m hoping they’d do the same on the Forester especially on the long drives in the hot climates. The only things is the Subaru lacks the telemetry on the oil or trans temps. I may just need to carry around an infrared thermometer and point at the parts. Hehe.

      Happy to help! Do you mean like just driving on uphill pavement roads? My home is actually situated on somewhat of a hill and there is really no effect at all in regards to the locker. I've heard people say some odd things about how these lockers alter the driving experience. But I really haven't noticed any negative things at all. It occasionally pops during certain low speed turns. And you can hear it click at low speeds. But once I'm out at regular speeds I forget it's even there. Let me know if you have specific questions!

      @@clappedoutsubieshoopties2216 Heya. I am in a similar situation. I have at the locker and an extra rear diff. My location in New Zealand have a lot of uphill and winding roads, I understand applying throttle will lock the locker even when turning so it won't ratchet. That's the bit I'm worried about. I guess I just have to install it and find out for myself.

      @@forester_overland_nz okay I understand your question now! I wouldn't worry about it at all. Yes it's designed to lock driver's and passenger side axles together when throttle is applied. But even in the snow, I didn't experience any issue with the back end kicking out in the turns. I would however recommend that you drive conservatively if the weather is bad. I personally try to Coast through most turns or at least apply light throttle. But again, you almost don't even know that it's there. The tires don't chirp when you're at regular speeds in wider turns. Overall, I couldn't be happier with this locker. I was so impressed with it that I actually bought another one for my jeep 😅😅

      Thank you for the kind words! No difficulty. The power steering cap required a little finesse to get the stock seal pulled out and transferred. Nothing bad at all! I love how they look.

      Thanks for the kind words!! We didn't get turbo sf's here in the US. So I'm not sure. But I do know that many of the aftermarket 15 inch wheels(method etc) fit over the WRX calipers even up to the VA chassis. I would be surprised if they didn't fit.     When I bought my 2019 frontier pro-4x, the dealership put a brand new set of these roadventures on the truck (the Hankook dynapro's on it were worn out, but I would've changed those tires anyway). I had never heard of the kumho brand before and I was curious to see how they would do and almost 2 years later I'm seriously impressed! I don't do any super hard-core off roading but I do enjoy being able to get out there and being confident in my tires (vehicle as a whole) is paramount. For the price point I'm considering getting them when I size up to 33s after I get the lift installed in my truck this spring

      Absolutely!! They kick butt. They've got the at52 out now as well which I think looks even a bit more aggressive! I've still got these tires on a different car to this day.

    Working on a jack of all trades manual Forester build, and primitive is for sure the skid plates I am going for. I am also most likely going to go with Primitive's lift package as well. The fact that I can basically turn my SJ into a wilderness that will handle better with Bilstein and King Springs, without relying on spacers, is awesome. Glad to know that Primitive makes great stuff!

      You're absolutely on the right track! Primitive is where it's at. I usually only run parts from Primitive or ADF. If you need the car to handle more sporty on the street, king springs and upgrades shocks are the way🙌 But don't be scared away from spacers in the event that you want to retain OEM suspension for more comfort off-road. If you ever have questions about their stuff, shoot an email or phone call over to Primitive. Blake over there is the man and their team can help you make the best decision 🙏

      It's a game changer. I just upgraded to a 3/16" ADF skid plate. But the primitive ones are easier to install by about 5 minutes. Whichever one you like better will work great🙌

    This has to be one the most detailed videos on Torq lockers. I even went looking for Subaru Torq locker install videos and yours didnt even show up. Thats just criminal the way the algorithm short changed you. Im just happy it popped up on a randon feed. Im glad to see this video. Im planning an upgrade on my '96 outback in march. Pulling the cheap chinese aluminum 2" lift and installing ADF lift, King springs and Torq Locker. I thought i had them ready to go, but i see now i should order the gaskets and other small parts to be completely ready. There's a lot of fun trails on the Olympic Peninsula and im planning a lot hitting a lot of them this summer and fall. Give me shout if you head out to the OlyPen!

    2005 forester XS, 2 inch lift, 215/65/16 Yokohama Geolander G019s and I’m getting 23-24 avg. Just calculating by dividing odometer trip miles by gallons at fill up. Not 100% accurate, but my tires aren’t much bigger than stock

    2017 Forester XT 2 inch lift, stock size (235/55r18) wildpeak trails, roof rack with light bar, tire, awning, traction boards. Getting around avg 18.9 but I have a throttle commander and drive in S# all the time 😂

    I have one on my lowered STi with lowered engine mounts and larger oil pan. It has probably saved my oil pan from speed bumps and just bad roads with a lowered car.

      I also own a "slammed" Legacy and I need to do the same. I was changing the oil in it yesterday and literally thinking "I should get a skid plate for this POS." Lol🤣

    Skid plate is high up on my list, just not in the cards for now. Not much added weight in trade for a whole lot of protection. Nice to see how the thinner Primitive has held up to a thrashing.

      Exactly! Super light weight and has actually saved my butt a minimum of 10 times. It really has served me well despite being the thinner version. Would be great for street cars or anyone just ripping gravel roads. I'm not exaggerating when I say I've put the full weight of the car on boulders with it😅

      Right on the money. It's crazy to me that people will gamble with SUSPENSION components to save $300 🤦 only to find out they gotta still spend another $200 to clean up the crappy lift. "Guys why aren't my rear wheels centered" "guys, the alignment shop can't get my camber dialed" "guys, the studs sheered off my eBay spacer. What should I do?" 🙄

    Thanks, for the review. I was looking at the Primitive Racing Lift kit. And the Ironman Lift Kit. Now probably going to buy the Primitive Racing Kit. Are the Exhaust and other spacers included or Available in Primitives Kits? As you can see from my emoji I have an Orange Crosstrek as my daily driver. Extra Lift would be great for trail rides.

      10/10 would run Primitive personally. They use the absolute highest quality components in their lifts - no cheap Chinese parts 😬 and their springs don't start to sag like some of the other options out there. As far as the other spacers you'll need, their kits should include everything necessary. But give them a call. They've always been really helpful to me when I've had a product question.
