      @nelsonmedina2016 2 месяца назад

      So your yard is 3000 ft.² and you used two bales of peat moss and that was enough for your whole back yard. The reason why I’m asking because I have 4000 close to 4000 ft.² of yard and a guy is telling me I need 20 bales to cover my yard???????

    • @thegrassgardener
      @thegrassgardener 2 месяца назад

    5.4 isn’t terribly low but low enough to adjust. You could have just spread lime 1 bag per 1k sq ft, I have thought about using baking soda but the sodium scared me off. The carbonate is what does the actual lowering of the PH in lime not the calcium or magnesium. Did you see any difference in your Lawn? What did the follow up soil test show?

    • @thegrassgardener
      @thegrassgardener 2 месяца назад

      @SeahawkAz I was just giving ppl other alternative other than lime. But to answer your question yes I did saw a difference but slightly. My PH went from 5.4 to 5.9 so just doing this process every month I think will make a difference in the soil you just have to be patient and consistent with it.

    Peace Brother, I suggest that you smoke that whole yard, dethatch, aerate, grade and reseed the entire area. Get yourself some great TTTF cultivars and start new. You would have to dig something like 3 - 4 inches down and about 3-4 feet on all sides of where the Bermuda grass is growing. Her roots grow deep and spread. Save yourself the time and energy. Hopefully you can establish a new thick healthy TTTF lawn, which ca crowd out the Bermuda. Good luck

    For the last 3 or 4 yearly growing seasons here in Maine there has been a practice to apply baking soda mixed in a watering can. It started out a tablespoon per gallon applied 2 or 3 times a season, though now routinely, a quarter tablespoon is thrown in the 2.5 gallon watering can. I've used those in the past prior to reseeding and the straps also popped off multiple times for me. It's a hard balance between making sure the lawn is moist enough to allow the tines to penetrate, but not too wet so that they become harder to pull out. The straps break when the latter occurs. It's kind of annoying, but ultimately gets the job done and for much cheaper than paying someone to use a core aerator. I'd say that the spike aerators are a good product if you have a small lawn e.g. 40 ft x 20 ft or similar.

    Adjusting soil pH with Baking Soda is stupid. It's more expensive than agricultural lime and it's almost never a good idea to add sodium to soil. Baking soda is 28% sodium.

    Doesn’t look like the aerator is penetrating enough. No adequate cores visible. Try switching out the tines for Oregon tines. I’m building my own after seeing some complaints of the Amick Rollaerator, plus they are super pricey.

      @mauriciogonzalez6302 yeah I guess you need about 6 inches cores? But I’m getting like 4 inches out of this thing.

      @Woonyvillan401 I bought it about 2 years ago and It has been great using the amick roll aerator.

    Seriously? You didn't notice that a spoonful of baking soda couldn't be poured into a bottle opening? Edit that.

      @pamela6922 I did, I used a cup to mix the whole thing up.

    Did the baking soda not work for you?

    • @thegrassgardener
      @thegrassgardener 7 месяцев назад

      @dhiatt33 the baking soda did work you just have to do multiple applications. With Cal Flo your Ph will increase with just one application in ten days. Just another option if you want to go that route.

      It did increase the Ph but multiple applications is needed.
