Double DBA Battle Report
Here is a double DBA game played at the Durban Historical Gaming Group in February 2016. "Double DBA" means we had 24 bases and 2 generals per side and a 3 x 2 foot battlefield, divided into 6 sectors rather than 4 for terrain placement purposes. Breakpoint was at 8 bases rather than 4. Everything else was as per the usual DBA.
Noel Zaal and Shawn Comrie each commanded half the Roman army, whilst yours truly took charge of the Carthaginians. It was a good, tight game that Carthage could easily have lost if her elephants had been less lucky with the dice.
There were a couple of places where we forgot a rule or two - like elephant follow-up after recoil - but I haven't corrected anything. Thi...

DBA battle report Rome vs Celtiberia
Просмотров 3,9 тыс.10 лет назад
This is a DBA game played in June 2014 at Durban. My first effort with Flash of which the easy part was actually making the video, followed by the hard part of converting it into a format of acceptable quality I could post here. Enjoy!
Battle report Rome vs Parthia DBM 3.2

This is a DBM 3.2 game played earlier this year, created with Powerpoint 2010 from photos and converted into a WMV file. Powerpoint's animation tools are quite versatile and certainly adequate for this kind of job. The only problem I had was making sure the endpoint of an object's motion path corresponded exactly with the object's position in the following slide. Any easy and precise solution t...
Centurion's Daughter

A slightly cleaned-up second version of my first effort at producing a promo video using Windows Movie Maker. A real bugbear as WMM simply cannot handle several large imported clips in one go. I had to bring them into WMM one by one, cut out and save the bits I wanted, and then bring them in for final assembly. Here is the blurb from the website: sites.google.com/site/centurionsdaughter/ By AD4...
Please... what are the dice rolls at the beginning of the Roman and Carthaginian turn for? Thank you.
Your batreps are still among my favourite on YT. Hope you manage to do more one day. Hugely enjoyable to watch, but it must have taken ages to put together. Thank you!
Very nice!! I wish if there was a playable version for Android, Ipad, or Pc!!.. I Wonder why they had done it yet.. Before years, i had played many DBAOL games hotseat, and wlth Internet opponents.. It was great
I know I'm about 6 years late, but do you still play DBM?
What app/program did you use to produce this? Looks really cool!
Flash. Been a while since I last looked at it though.
Nice report!
Very nicely done, I prefer DBA with miniatures but this report is great!
Just wonderful!
Well done I hope to see more.
Thanks for the positive comments everyone. I keep meaning to do more but they are quite a lot of work and real life keeps getting in the way (plus being motivated - y'know what I mean?)
Bravo, très belle animation, et très belle bataille !
Great battle, account and animation. Thank you. Pity the Celtiberians didn’t throw better dice...
great format !! congratulation !!
I have not played DBA/DBM in many a year (since the 1990s). I noticed individual elements moving sideways? 'slipping' as it were. I guess this is new, as before I think you had to pivot on one corner. Great game by the way, and being pro-Carthaginian, I am glad to see the forces of good won!
I love the sound the armies make when they perish. Classic.
Great report!! Which software did you use for this after action report?
Glad you liked it. I did it with Flash, having created the elements in Photoshop.
Well done.

Check out my new battle report from a double DBA game using V. 3 at: ruclips.net/video/dcdG7MzVAqE/видео.html
I detect what appears to be an error, unless you're playing v2.2: At 3:55 - 3:57 you make a flank contact with an enemy element, when the contacting friendly element did not start the bound's movement on the correct side of the extended flank line. This rule crept into v3 to mitigate the higher move rates.
+Bev - Yes, as I remember this was played with 2.2 - although we did make a few mistakes, like allowing blades to kill a psiloi element when it could just have fled. It's an AAR of a real game, not an idealised one.
Great work Hurrel Froude. I'm sorry I missed the big event!
+Shawn Comrie Whoops! Sorry I was there. (Was thinking of another battle)
+Shawn Comrie Hi Shawn. Understandable as we've mainly played DBM together whilst Noel and I generally play DBA. Thanks for the thumbs up!
Bravo !! belle bataille, et belle vidéo !!
Well, this *really* is the best youtube AAR that I've yet found. Clear, succinct, analytical, no longer than it needs to be. Everything that's essential and nothing that isn't. I'd love to study rulesets and battles via youtube but so many attempts at AARs are just w*nky talkfests...
Wow nice battle! I was on the edge of my seat!
i really enjoyed this, well done.
you should do more of these, particularly with DBM :) These are really cool
Thanks Santiago. I created it using Flash 5, which you can download free from here: en.softonic.com/s/macromedia-flash-5-free-download-full-version I created the terrain map in Photoshop (version 7 available for free), and the elements in Freehand 10 (also available for free) though you could create them easily enough in Photoshop. I then imported them into Flash and animated them from there. the background music and special effects are available from a variety of sites. Just Google 'free sound effects' and see what you find. Try this for example: www.flashkit.com/soundfx In fact check out the whole site. You can create basic shapes in Flash - simple terrain pieces and the elements themselves - if you find that easier. For more help on using Flash check out the the tutorials available within Flash itself.
That is really interesting how you did this. Could you put up a link on where I could begin to learn how to animate my games like this?
Excellent stuff, really enjoyed this :)
Thanks Dave!
Great animation!
Gives a good feel for the book which I thoroughly enjoyed. An era little is written about in the form of a novel. I can highly recommend this interesting and exciting book
