Megalopolis - Movie Review
Megalopolis is Francis Ford Coppola's passion project that has been brewing in his mind for decades, and we finally get to see it. A few days after watching it, I decided that I was ready to review it... I think. This movie is insane!

Thumbs down:

3: Know who you are (It may only appeal to a small portion of the audience)
4: With a little help from some 'friends' (Either watch with some friends.... or watch drunk)

Surprised this has as many critics as it does. Other than the end where Susan overcomes the incredible pain of the fall and finds the strength as a woman to scale the cliff so quickly, it was a super movie to me...Susan loves Henry tremendously and doesn't want to believe Henry is so horrible, but--to her credit--she investigates(adapts) on the fly based on Mark's accusation! Susan's husband is extremely biased(so biased that he's gullible) and who can tell what philosophies will come out of a shrinks mouth(whether religious[rare] or liberal). A shrink might even gauge the parents/community overall viewpoint to see what will go over well so that they keep getting paid(RATHER THAN WHAT SHOULD BE SAID)! She doesn't believe in evil?! These characteristics are very possible to find in 3 different people.

(Spoiler) personally think the framing of Rage is what makes it so bad. Like it makes Charlie completely unrelatable and unsympathetic. If the story had been framed with say a bus breaks down in the middle of nowhere and the classmates are forced to confront each other the way they ended up doing in the classroom (minus beating a kid possibly to death) there’s a good story in there, especially for such a young writer. But yeah as is, totally misses the mark

I didn't feel the 'in his head' sequence at the end broke the illusion, it was pretty clear that it was being broadcast. He even turns to the camera and tells people something like "if you're still watching, turn this off". For me, i thought the backstage scenes very clearly broke the illusion every time. There can be backstage cameras, but when not in use they'd be fixed in place and unfocused on the people we're seeing in the unintended take. I thought the backstage scenes were very poorly done and unfortunately dragged the movie down considerably. Pretty good movie overall but I felt the backstage scenes showed a surprising lack of care for realism.

This is a nitpick, but calling television "timeless" is quite silly. TV lasted less than a 100 years, and was really only culturally relevant for 50. Easy to criticize people who seek ratings but also is fair to criticize the audience for engaging in it. Nobody likes to acknowledge that part. It's crazy that in 2024 we still have people who believe the Earth is a flat disk and surrounded by a massive ice wall and that constantly in fictional content (Even content that to anyone -even someone with just two brain cells to rub together can tell that it is fiction and not true) the audience are having to be preemptively informed and reminded throughout that it is a work of fiction, which means it's not real (Because there's a lot of people who don't realise fiction means it's not true/real and non-fiction is something real, true.) and YET- SO many people will believe it to be true, to the point that they and their lives will become completely destabilised by it and people can (And do) end up seriously injured even dead from believing all sorts of fictional works and then them, their lives and sadly their loved ones etc being dragged into the chaos and tragedy that can come from it. Education, critical thinking and humility are so so so important.

Put me to sleep TWICE. Maybe I'll give it another look some day. I watched "The Reef' last night. Another Aussie film, and I was glued from beginning to end--even though I had already seen it like ten years ago. "So it is done" is the final line of the black mass per the Church of Satan's Satanic Rituals. Owl symbolism, per Mark Passio, is not a "wise bird that represents Minerva" but a bird of prey that can see in its dark, and can approach its prey in the dark while the prey is oblivious to its approach. Bohemian Grove does in fact kick off with a ritual called "The Cremation of Care" where an effigy of "dull care" is immolated in the belly of the owl. They say it's to help remind the dudes to relax and have a good time at the Grove. Lol

"Catholocism being challened in art." The Exorcist was a massive boost for the RCC. They probably didn't like the movie, but it scared people back into the arms of the Church. The Omen, too, but maybe not explicitly the Catholic Church. The Exorcist showed the Catholics as being right, The Omen did, too, but not to the same extent. Later films, especially in the 80s, started showing Catholic Priests as powerless against evil, but in the early 70s, horror films show the church as being protectors against evil.

It reinforced the government’s narrative about “God and Hell will punish those who disobey our plan” and scared religious people into relying on blind faith in an illusion, and turning their backs to the real and present evil. If a movie isn’t secretly showing us the answers we need to survive, it is obviously showing us the way they want us to behave, which equates to humanity losing the war.

Good point! I think that this fear was also seen in music. The senate had plenty of hearings about how Satanism was influencing the youth. Records were played backwards and plenty of defendants tried the “Devil made me do it” defense.

Satan leads to God. See who in the RCC carries the title of Lightbringer. It is 3 individuals.

Call me crazy but I judge movies on immersion & entertainment value, not sophistication, Therefore the most insanely overrated movie is 2001 A Space Odyssey.

I don't know about you guys, but the movie gave me a bit of anxiety, especially the sacrifice scene. This video helped me decompress and come back to my senses, so thanks for that 👍
