What's wrong with Vi in S2? I'm trying to answer this question by retrace all her character development. And when I'm done I actually begin to like this character. My conclusion is that there's nothing wrong with this character. Her storyline is very coherent than we might original think. Hope you enjoy : )

    Vi's voice break on "I choose wrong every TIME. And because of it I lost everyone" makes me tear up... She NEVER showed her weakness to anyone before. Anyone but Cait. It's like "Everyone in my life has changed. Promise me you won't change". Vi can show something that personal to Caitlyn only 💔💔💔

    Vi no join enforcer because enforcer kill Vi parents. Vi join enforcer because she love Cait. Vi do awful things with Cait. Vi have falling out with Cait. Vi do awful things with Vi. Jinx tell Vi Vander's back and Vi and Jinx go on mine trip to find daddy. Sisters bonding then go to Hexjesus. Vi fights soldiers, loses Loris, Gert and sister. Vi is dirt under Cupcake nails. The End. The only problem I had with Vi in season 2 is that she doesn't really have any agency or push the narrative in any way. In season 1, Vi was critical to the story. In season 2, she was just a passenger. She tags along with Caitlyn in Act 1, with Jinx in Act 2 and in Act 3 fails to protect anyone.

    I'd taken her last expression as her finally decompressing; a culmination of grief, exhaustion, complicated feelings as a result of the possibilities surrounding the Jinx/hexgate airducts observation and how her partner might react, maybe even guilt. What you said also makes a lot of sense, though. If anyone would pick up on this context clue, it would be Cait.

    The reason Caitlyn and Vi work so well, is that the other is the only one to get past their guard. Vi spends all her time fighting for others, it's only with Caitlyn that she opens up about her feelings. Caitlyn keeps holding herself to the Kiramman standards. Only with Vi does she allow herself to cry and be held, even if only for a moment.

    The only thing that angers me about Vi is how severely people misunderstand and misinterpret her because they watch the show with their eyes closed. Most infuriating is the part where some people literally have their nose right on the point but they refuse to get it. Prime example: Vi lacks actual agency in S2. Yes! She does! Thank you, Sherlock! You found the clues. Now you just need to piece them together. Ya'll wanna know why Vi lacks agency in S2? And that's not even me reading into it and coming up with a theory. It's literally right there on screen. We literally get a scene where Vi point blank tells us why her character arc is way more passive than in S1. Her lacking agency is _part_ of her arc. She's tired of her own BS. That's part of her development in S2. She wraps it all up for us in S2E8: "I choose wrong every time and because of it I've lost everyone." That's not new. That's _not_ a new realization to her that she comes to in that moment. This sentence is the core of her arc progression throughout the entirety of S2 from the very beginning. Vi is more passive towards Cait in S2A1 and goes along with her choices because when the roles were reversed, when Vi was the one taking charge in S1 and pushing Caitlyn towards a decision, the immediate result of that decision was Cait's mother and half the council getting killed. Vi is more passive towards Jinx in S2A2 because every. single. time. Vi actively made a choice concerning Jinx in S1 and S2A1, the Jinx situation _consistently_ worsened. Vi _has_ to have her gauntlet removed by Jinx in the finale because she would've died otherwise. She didn't let go, because that is consistently through both seasons her greatest strength as well as her most crippling flaw. Vi doesn't let go. She doesn't know how to. She knows how to sabotage herself into thinking she has when there's something at risk that she wants to protect, but in the end her emotions always win out. It's this trait of hers that saves her relationship with Cait as well as Jinx's life, and it is that exact same trait that almost gets her killed multiple times. Jinx _had_ to be the one to let go first and drag her sister into just accepting the consequences because Jinx was the only one capable of making that decision in the first place. She was the one who decided to break the cycle, not Vi. Vi wasn't there yet. Like it's literally all right there. It is all. right. there. On screen. Staring people directly in the face. All they need to do is remember how to play connect the dots. And yet it's what, maybe a fifth of the viewers who actually get it? Same applies to Cait's story, Viktor's story, Jayce's story etc. People have so many gripes with some of the big arcs in Arcane and the moment they go into what they believe is "missing" or was "rushed" I just end up sitting there, asking myself if they actually watched the show. Maybe the showrunners should've made the episodes split screens with Subway Surfers gameplay in the lower one so folks manage to actually focus for more than 5 seconds istg.

    • @Lorennaa
      @Lorennaa 6 дней назад

      Right on point! 100% agree with u. Just a few things were rushed, like the Black Rose thing, but they probably had limited budget and still made a perfect show out of it. Also, were going to have more shows that certainly can continue that. Or, you could just read the lores. Anyway, it's all on the screen, perfectly understandable, even the rushed stuff.

    I saw something pivotal when Caitlyn was investigating Warwick's rage in Stormwater prison. She would have seen the papers with the amount of Zaunites allegedly imprisoned under her command. She is a natural at investigating as we all know. We know Caitlyn to be against imprisoning for the sake of it. She has always been against corruption from higher ups, even for a just cause ("why is peace always the justification for violence"). I think she was looking for an out against Ambessa from that moment, and seeing that Vi instantly trusted her again gave her that out. This is my interpretation of it.

    • @elaa673

      That's because it's not the end of their story. The point of Arcane is that it serves as a prequel to the stories of these champions. In Arcane, they are in their mid-20s, while in "League" they are in their 30s. And we know that Riot wants to make a couple of shows after this, so I would assume this final scene has a double meaning. It shows that yes Vi wants to continue living on, but it's also a hint for the future, similar to the phrase "our story isn't over yet." No doubt we'll see these characters again; I think even the creator hinted at it on Twitter.

    Vi actually didn’t dismiss Caitlyn’s question. Caitlyn asked “Are you still in this fight?” But she wasn’t talking about an actual fight, she was essentially talking about the will and the fight to live, she asked this because of how much Vi has gone through and also the fact that now (as far as Vi knew) Jinx was dead. To this Vi responded “I’m the dirt under your nails cupcake, you can’t get rid of me” (or something along those lines,) this was basically Vi saying that as long as Cait is around, she will continue to push on. Also I believe that the reason Caitlyn looked so lost in thought at the end of the episode was because Caitlyn knew that Jinx was alive and she was unsure of whether she should have told Vi or not.

    I think it’s that Caitlyn knows that Jinx is alive (considering if Jinx did survive and get away), unlike Vi. If Vi were to find out, she would probably resort back into big sister mode and search for her, thus falling victim into the cycle. Caitlyn realizes in this moment that Vi is still scarred, and that being with Caitlyn won’t magically reset Vi’s mindset about life. That’s what I took from the last scene.

  • @rubiconprime1429
    @rubiconprime1429 12 дней назад

    Aw, not only did Caitlyn realize what she was doing in the name of love but I think she realized that Vi did something Vi herself thought was unspeakable in joining the enforcers, for the sake of her love for Caitlyn. And then even after being a dictator, pressuring Vi to do join her to kill her own sister, and…the sewer scene, Caitlyn sees that Vi still loves her, signalled with the use of the the all-powerful “Cupcake”. Who wouldn’t turn on a dime for that kind of love?

  • @ReeseHei-ran
    @ReeseHei-ran 12 дней назад

    I think "this fight" in that question is quite literally continuing to live. Vi's sole living purpose is to reunite with Powder, her family. She lost Vander and Powder/Jinx left. So after everything that happened, is Vi still going to live on? Vi's response seems to me saying that she's now living for and committing to Cait, to continue fighting, essentially living for the both of them.

    • @gifem507

      @ReeseHei-ran i very much got that from that line. it just makes sense, i think caitlyn looked so contemplative because if she found out that vi wasn't going to live on,, she would tell her that jinx might still be alive from what she found with the hecgates design

      @Catras_unfairly_gorgeous_smirk 7 дней назад

      People need to realize this: Vi and Cait never fought, at least not in the way everyone thinks they did. There was never a misunderstanding between them. There was never anything they needed to sort out and work through and come to terms with each other. Vi understood from the beginning and all the way to the end why Caitlyn acted the way she did. We see that consistently in the way she acts towards Cait and that's what people need to pay more attention to. Violyn's communication has _always_ been majorly nonverbal ever since they first met in S1. They say way more with their actions and behavior towards each other than they ever do with words. They pretty much just use spoken language to fill in the gaps, but the bulk of their talks is in their gestures. It never was like nothing had happened. Vi did confront Caitlyn for her actions. Caitlyn did apologize. Vi forgave her. They invited and accepted each other as permanent parts of each other's lives, faults and flaws and all. All of this happened on screen. Their love story wasn't rushed in the least. You just missed half if it by not paying attention.

    • @destaenys
      @destaenys 7 дней назад

      @Catras_unfairly_gorgeous_smirk well written! I think people say rushed in the sense that the amount of screen time they had in act 3 was roughly around 6 minutes.

    • @Catras_unfairly_gorgeous_smirk
      @Catras_unfairly_gorgeous_smirk 7 дней назад

      @@destaenys Yet in those 6 minutes, they said pretty much everything that needed to be said between them to set them on their path to being in a committed relationship. Now I'm not saying S2 didn't have areas where it felt really rushed. If it'd been up to me, I would've compressed the entirety of ep7 except for the Viktor reveal into a montage and used that freed up time to show much, _much_ more of the relationships between Vi/Loris and Cait/Ambessa. _Especially_ Cait & Ambessa felt so brushed over to me. Would've been nice to really see Ambessa weave her little web around Cait and use her to crack down on Zaun. I mean sure, we see the end result of that relationship and are given little tidbits to piece together how it got to this point, but seeing a little more of it would've given Cait's ultimate betrayal and their final confrontation that much more oomph, know what I'm saying? I also think Ekko was so. freaking. boring. Like I was bored to death every time he was on screen, istg. 🤣🤣But that's an entirely different rant lmao.

    • @destaenys
      @destaenys 7 дней назад

      @Catras_unfairly_gorgeous_smirk yeah, about the 6 minutes I only complain because I just wanted more of them!! Like in S1 we had a whole 2 minute scene of Caitlyn yearning for her lesbian situationship in the shower, I needed more of that yuri crack lmao. I agree with the Ambessa and Ekko part. Like, we see that Ambessa cared for Caitlyn to some extent, even though Ambessa didn't exactly respect Caitlyn's orders and plays her like a puppet, Cait still fills the role of a daughter to Ambessa but the thing is Caitlyn is so emotionally repressed we don't really know how exactly she felt about this relationship and it will always bugs me how the majority of their dynamics is Caitlyn just letting Ambessa go over doing everything she's against even tho she's bothered by it, I think that if given more time, they should have made a greater parallel between Grayson and Caitlyn maybe. As for Ekko, I love him, episode 7 is beautiful, well-written and has a very good pace, but it steals the time we could have to wrap more of the main characters in the main timeline we actually care about.
