I used a pair of 660mm telescopic drawer runners from GSF to allow the genny to just slide out into the open air to run. in the video i say I used 610mm runners but this is wrong. They are 660mm. you can find a link to GSF on the links page of my website petepower.co.uk.

fault finding repair tips for a brushless capacitor compensated generator
Good day to you my generator 10kv has no voltage output what should I do
Was hoping to see where the clear fuel pipes attach
Diagram of capacitor and winding pls send
Would you happen to know what starter is compatible for this unit
how to adjust pilot screw, how many turns?
Ok, thanks for the information. I'll have to look further into the reason it's running so rich
On the base of the float chamber on my em4500sx there an electric controller that controls the fuel mixture by the look of it. The engine runs rich and there appears to be now power to this when the engine is running?
The solenoid on the bottom of the carb just shuts off the fuel when the machine is switched off to prevent unburnt fuel being dumped into the exhaust. It has no relevance to fuel mixture.
I see so much smoke. I just bought the same machine. But it smokes under load (200-300W). No smoke at idle or light load. It's my first 2 stroke machine. So, is the smoke OK? Thanks.
Nice review. I tested EX650, EU10i and EX7. EX650 is quitest for me. EU10i is a bit quieter with ECO ON than EX7. I like EX650 :)
Hi Peter, I have an EX5500 (no suffix) and it has the square style AVR with a diamond on it. Do you know if the curved style of AVR is compatible with the older EX5500? The curved style seems to be much easier and cheaper to acquire. Thanks
Unfortunately they are not interchangeable. The square ones are almost impossible to find now. All is not lost. I have some AVRs that will do the trick. They mount outside the alternator housing and are actually sturdier than the original as they feature low frequency protection. The downside is that you will loss the autothrottle feature as the genny sees the avr as a load.
Very good design but the actual blade of it should be a little longer that way it penetrates better and this will minimize it getting stuck Also the table not wobble around to prevent any accidents great design thanks for sharing not trying to critique your build just trying to help brother
Hi. I have a capacitor type brushless generator that produces fluctuating power. What could cause this?
You need to monitor frequency rather than voltage as this will tell you something about engine speed. The only obvious way that the output power can fluctuate is if the engine speed is fluctuation. Could be something simple like dirty carb or broken damper spring on the carburettor linkage
@@Donchampignon thanks. The frequency is also high and fluctuating
So the problem is with your engine not the electrical side. You probably have a dirty carb or broken damper spring on the throttle linkage
Fantastic instruction for the setup of the honda generator with the two piece governor. The best I have seen. Even shows the two speed function working.
Thanks mate, I had to search quite a bit this is the video I was looking for!
A lot of blabla for little information.
Sound is very poor!
Hi Peter, my tec29 gennie starts up but then stalls after a few seconds, then shows low engine power.Any ideas? .Regards Chris.
I know they are prone to the throttle butterfly getting sticky. Other than that check for blocked carn jets or blocked exhaust.
My output is 136v on 120 plug,I turned de screw counter clock and did not lower the uotput
could be that your throttle stop screw (the big black plastic one) is wound in too far to allow the throttle to close any further.
Im talk about the screw on the AVR,turned counter clock and did not lower the voltage
@@carlosmunoz753 ~~Thats not how you control the voltage. ~There is no adjustment for voltage on the AVR
My generator makes voltage but it fluctuates massively 90-150 usually but sometimes up to 240 under no load but and as soon as you power up a grinder the voltage falls off to about 70 or lower and spins very slowly replaced cap and exactly the same diode and varistor doesn't look popped or burned🤔 don't really know what to try next meter shows no resistance on any windings do t know if my meter is crap or what 🤣 any ideas much appreciated thanks
2 diode is connected to the coil which way? Cathode or anode?
Hi Pete, looks like one happy Grandpa to me. Br, Eeli
What can cause it produce a weak spark
Bad spark plugs
Or bad ignition coil(s). Replaced mine and good to go.
Thanks for that! I am fixing up an old 2.2KVA Fusion generator with my Dad. He used to use it on building sites in the early '90s for power tools. It has a 5.5hp Honda GTX160 engine. Got the engine going by replacing the carb (old one was proper siexed wide open - had to cut the linkage to the govenor to get it off!), oil change, new spark plug, new air filter, new fuel filter, tank clean out. Started on the 3rd pull! Problem is it is putting out WAY too much power - like up to 400v! It blew the test bulb really quickly. We reset the govenor per the manual and it now idles around 1400 which is what the manual for the engine says. I took the cap off and checked the capacitor, It is a genuine Ducati. Supposed to be 10uf and measured 9.8uf so in spec. It is slightly cracked where they did the zip tie up I think. There doesn't appear to be any regulation> Any idea of other things I could check? Thanks.
Yep pretty simple. The genny is running too fast. If you measure the frequency you will probably find its up above 70hz when it should be 50 or 60 in the US. You need to adjust the governor.
@@petepowergenerators Thanks! I reset the govenor arm and now it is running sweet. 48ish Hz at max load and pretty much bang onm at 50Hz / 3000 RPM for a half load. It will never be run at full whack anyway. Can't believe how little it neede to run after 30 years in a shed! Thanks for the reply! Subbed.

I need help about ex 500 no electricity out for 220v. I think the inverter is dead. Where can I find the new inverter? Couldn't find it? Is there any wiring diagram for generator side? Generator is giving voltage but inverter is not output
I am about to help a friend with her generator which has been sitting for 2 years. I gave her a battery charger to get it charged up - I want to drain the fuel, change the oil - should I change the coolant -anything you suggest for maintenance on it in general? Great channel -thank you -
The main thing to do is to clean the carburettor.
@@petepowergenerators I cleaned the carb it really wasn't dirty. Apparently a leak now I'm going to check today. Now electrical output on a generator that used to with perfectly. Saw a video on the idea of turning a drill backwards whilst plugged into to generator and trigger held on forward. Gonna try
Generator running - connected to LPG bottle. Generator quits running for whatever reason. Gas continues to flow through the open valve on the LPG bottle. Is this a safety issue ?
Its an issue if you are not present to switch off the gas. In that situation you would have the gas supplied ia a solenoid val e that is held open by a vacuum operated switch with the vacuum supplied from the engine manifold.
@@petepowergenerators Hi Peter That was the reason for my query as this issue has never - to my knowledge - been addressed. I have owned my Honda EU10i for around 18+ years I think. It stays in the family and I recently purchased a Honda 22i. Very interested in the LPG conversion. Nearly all the petrol generator failures are due to bad or old fuel leading to clogged carbys . Gas engines stink and carrying multiple fuel types is a bummer. LPG seems such a no-brainer that I wondered why Honda did not do it directly, rather than a third party cashing in (with Honda's full approval it seems.) Could Honda view public liability as a possible concern? In my situation the 10i would be running unattended for quite a few hours. I use 9 kg LPG bottles elsewhere and having a single fuel source I had a ...hmmmmm ...what if?....moment. Hence the safety question. I did not realise on-demand and vacuum were incorporated in the regulator as I was quickly informed by a reader. But that just raised another question. Why is that rarely (never?) mentioned?
Great video my friend Peter. These are the best engines Honda have ever made. Thanks for sharing!!
El escape sobre una bombona?
Yamaha engine ?
Honda gx200. The Telairs have Yamaha engines.
You know these would make for an ideal household backup generator with the whole control panel and electric start function. You could easily run the essentials and with good power management even do a bit of cooking/heating water. The max output of 2.7kw is pretty decent for the size.
Bán cho em con 500 nhé
What can I do if the generator is not popping engine oil
Sorry, I don't understand the question.
Hey there, great series but I done all this with my eu2000i model, plus I even brought a ultra sonic cleaner especially for it but its still surging with or without a load, any ideas what it could be please
Several possibilties. 1) could your fuel be old? 2) are you certain that the main jet is clear 3) there is a pathway from the idle jet down into the floatbowl. Try squirting carb cleaner into hole at the bottom of the idle jet housing and see if it makes it through the float bowl. 4)Check the o ring on the plastic idle jet. 5) could be caused by low compression resulting from gummed piston rings. Remove spark plug, move piston to bottom of stroke. Squirt about half an eggcup of brake fluid into spark plug hole and leave soak for 24hrs. Pull engine over to eject brake fluid. Refit spark plug. 6) check fuel filter located in outflow fuel tank
@@petepowergenerators Thanks mate, the fuel was brand new, although it did have old fuel in there to begin with, plus I cleaned the little filter in the tank out aswell but I'll try the brake fluid in the cylinder trick and check the pilot jet hole again and hopefully that'll do it Many thanks and all the best 👍
Hi! Can you advise me? Today I assembled the Honda EX 650 generator after cleaning. It didn't work for many years because they poured gasoline and oil into it. It's actually new. Now it starts for the first time, but after I pull down the choke, the engine doesn't keep idling, but it still adds and subtracts. Under the string, the running is smooth. Don't know what it could be? well thank you
Sounds like partially blocked main jet but sticking piston ring could do the same. If the jet is clear try removing the spark plug get the pist near the bottom of its stroke and pour a few cc of brake fluid into the bore. Then leave it for a couple of days
I see what you mean about running smooth under the string. Low compression sticking piston rings.
@@petepowergenerators Not. The engine starts. Then, when it has idle without an electrical load, the carburetor still draws and adds throttle. When I connect the drill, the motor runs at the same speed without any problems.
Please send me an e-mail. I'll send you a link to my video
ruclips.net/video/fYE26HVeLY4/видео.html
all is great!
Why don't you remove all the nuts that hold the pan to the bottom of the engine?
Its not necessary and you would still meed to undo the earthing cable if you wanted to take it out of the chassis
Brilliant video. Thanks very much
After a good music we will start again !
Great ! And thanks to your answers . Sorry to have missed this experience you made before i asked a question , on another of your topic .
Hi Peter thanks for the video. I just got a Honda EX5500 and after running for 20 min it turns off with lights or without lights . If you can help please? Thanks
Could be temperature shutdown. Check the radiator fan. A sheet of paper will stick to the grill if the fan is workng.
@@petepowergenerators thanks for your quick reply awesome you got a subscriber great thank you, I will try that.
Good afternoon. can you help me with advice? the instructions say about adjusting the carburetor when working at an altitude of over 1500 meters. how to regulate it?
You can't adjust it. All you can do is change the main jet for a smaller one. As the air at altitude will contain less oxgen , you will need to mix less fuel with it.
@@Donchampignon thnx
Sounds like a silly question but what is the difference between the 350 and 500? Same engine. Interchangeable parts. Just a rerate? Have you load tested the two and found that they are indeed 350 and 500 watt max? Why the difference?
new technology inverter pack on the ex500 is about the only difference
@@Donchampignon but are they interchangeable. Can I put the 500 inverter module in a 350 and essentially get a 500. Please only respond if you're 100% certain and if tried this with success
And also, I just got my machine off of eBay delivered today and I checked it out with a kill-a-watt meter (chicago but pretty accurate)and it's putting out a hundred 45 Watts and melted the kilowatt meter. I'm fairly certain it's a failed inverter. Can anybody else confirm with a kill-a-watt meter that yours is putting out a hundred and forty-five and that is normal. The machine started almost by itself when I unpacked it. I just gave it a real quick compression check pull (in my living room lol) and it fired up after about two rotations at compression check speed. The easiest starting 2-stroke I've ever seen.

HI PETER WOULD YOU BE ABLE TO TELL ME HOW TO REMOVE THE OVERLOAD MESSAGE ON A DOMETIC TEC 29
Thank you Peter. I have an old EX5500 that sat in my shop for years. After watching your video I decide to go and get it running. Puurrrs, like a kitten but has no output. I flashed the field and then I had output. I’m sure now that it’s the AVR. Darn, they’re kind of spendy. But I guess if you want it to run, ya gotta spend the money. Any thoughts on why the AVR would of went bad? Thanks again Peter.
If you flashed the field and then got satisfactory output, there is probably nothing wrong with your AVR. Loss of residual magnetism is not an indication of a faulty AVR. It can happen because the load was left connected as the generator stopped or simply due to oxidisation beteen the laminated steel plates that comprise the core of the rotor and the stator. If you find that the residual magnetism is continualy too low to start generation then you can make a connection to the brushes from the battery via a momentary contact push button switch.
Me too. Many thanks
