Vintage Zonk Machine Fuzz Demonstration

A quick demo of an original 1960's John Hornby Skewes "THE ZONK MACHINE" fuzz pedal. This is one of only a handful made with a hybrid germanium/silicon transistor combination. I do not own this pedal, so please don't ask me if you can purchase it. This was mainly to demo the pedal for the owner before I ship it back to him, and also for anyone interested in vintage fuzz pedals.

Years ago I found this old Italian Geloso tape machine at a yard sale. I was told it probably didn't work and paid $15 bucks. Got it working just fine and found inside this recording of Paul Robeson giving a talk on integration at the First Unitarian Church of Los Angeles, CA on October 17th, 1957. The recording wed donated to the Paul Robeson foundation and is posted here for anyone interested...

Here's a quick and dirty way to test the polarity of film capacitors using only a fuzz pedal and an amplifier. No fancy test equipment needed. This is a MUST for building tube amps where you're running high B voltages, especially with heater currents nearby; but it can also help eliminate RF and other noises in stompboxes.

I don't think I'll see another one of these for a while, so I thought I'd just have some fun blowing the onboard effects out a 12AX7's a$$. I tried to hit all the different switch combinations and also keep the VU meter in the red as much as I can, just like the Velvet Underwear.

Primary issue is switches are seized up but everything else is working and sounds good... I am suspecting (hoping) that it is just a bad switch and/or cap as everything "looks" clean inside... Real hip !;! A friend in another band had a mid 60;;s vox white teardrop body bass with an original factory installed fuzz control. It wasn't real practical but cool. I also remember the guitar head with the tuning keys was huge. I was brought up in the Detroit downriver area. This is the only bass I ever saw like this. Good stuff ! On this channel.
I bought one back in 1972, it looked amazing and the sound features seemed awesome, but did not get happy with it, so sold it and bought a Gibson Standard instead, still do!
It's a pretty guitar but the tone is so over trebly I'd be parametric EQing for days looking for beef in the neck pickup. The fuzz is Cowsill-worthy (not an insult) and that square wave vibrato is decades ahead of its time. PS: can you do a demo on: 1976 BC Rich Seagull 2 forerunner of the Eagle 1958 Les Paul Jr. 3/4 scale 1958 Supro/Valco Belmont 33 Special

Я слышал, что гитары Тоники ужасны, но никогда на них не играл. Я думаю, что в некоторых Тониках были встроенные эффекты? Я слышал, что белорусская Форманта/Соло II советской эпохи со встроенными эффектами намного лучше, чем Тоника. Я хотел бы попробовать один когда-нибудь. У меня есть педаль Poltava Fuzz/Tremolo/Wah производства России/СССР, которая мне очень нравится!✌
@@acidfuzzpedals9986 я играл на тонике в 1984 году. Ростовской фабрики. Ее только купили (ДК), а гриф уже пропеллером и анкера нет...
Встроенных эффектов нет ( на басу), на тонике были. Перегруз и еще что то...

The Clientele are one of my all time favorites. Glad you noticed! I was going to start an online tablature site for their guitar parts shortly after they released Strange Geometry, but I never found/made the time. Alasdair's guitar work is beautiful & interesting.
