I think the method those Russian scientists used to recreate the vase is or is pretty similar to the way the Egyptians would have produced those vases. Its done using technology that we have evidence of the Egyptians using like on those paintings in the video and it achieves a pretty similar result. It was also a side project done by an unskilled layman where as a the real vases would likely have been created by a skilled artisan who had spent many years honing their craft and would have inherited the knowledge and technique from their predecessors to achieve the best result possible. Those vases were probably as amazing to the Egyptians for their symmetry as they are to us.

Another thing to note, these balloons from Scientist against myths, grabbed a vase that is unfinished. Many of these OG vases are simply unfinished. The manufacturer did a rough bore of the inside, without beginning the work of thinning out the walls from the inside. There is a plethora of these unfinished vases, and just as many of ones completely done. Two distinct categories. There is a vase number 4617 that Petrie documented. Diorite bowl, wall thickness 1/40 of an inch aka .635 millimeter for most of the bowl. One has to be utterly ripped away from reality to think that kind of wall thickness couldn't have been done with anything manual. Advanced lathes were utilized. Super sharp, hard material drill bits, with high rotation speed of the workpiece.

Flint is absolutely correct, anything which is being "turned" will be very dammed close to being perfect. The fact that these two girls did not turn a "perfect vase" from their first attempt, means only that. But if you were to make those stone vases generation in and generation out, for hundreds of years - you can get pretty damned good at making them. I have been using Sketchup Free for awhile and have been using the 3D text tool and I always had a few fonts available. For some reason the drop down only has one font available. Do you have any ideas why? Thankyou.
