Filling the Pilot 823
This video is a tutorial on how to fill the Pilot Custom 823 to capacity. When 100% full, my pen holds about 2.2ml of ink.

This review along with all my others is on my blog. The Dizzy Pen dizzypen.wordpress.com . Stop on by! This is my first video review. I decided to do a video because I wanted to demonstrate how easy it is to fill the pen. I also wanted to do a comparison with the Dollar 717i. This is a whole heck of a lot easier than typing everything out and getting good pictures. Yes, there is a writing sampl...
Great video
I'm surprised that RUclips hasn't taken this video down cuz that was the sexiest thing I've ever seen on YT! 😂😅😊 J/k but, seriously, thanks for the wonderful video.

this is really helpful!!! Many thanks:)
Nov. 2024 - I keep coming back to this video to remind me how the heck to do this. SO GRATEFUL for old-school RUclips videos like this. If Dizzy Pen is ever checking comments anymore (there are only two videos from a million years ago, alas), THANK YOU SO MUCH from 2024!
Very helpful, thank you!
Wonderful video. So helpful. Thank you for taking the time to record and post this.
great!
Thank you!
So much ink all at once is terrifying when you're doing this stuff! Great video
Thanks!
I guess you never tighten down the screw top when you're done?
I keep coming back to this video. Very helpful. Thank you!
Super helpful video!
I'm always worried about wacking the nib on the bottom of the ink bottles :| so easy, just a slightly wet section and a slip and BOOM
Excellent demo. Just got mine in amber, medium nib. Writes like a beautiful song and dances on paper like the wind!
Great instructional video, thanks
Thank you! First ever full pen thanks to your guide!
Excellent demo and tutorial! I am a new owner of a Custom 823, and this answered my final question 👍🏼 Thank you!
Do you have a demo of cleaning the Pilot 823?
Very helpful demonstration! Thank you.
A perfectly clear explanation. Very well done. Thank you!!
Great into. What a pleasure it is to watch a video and not have to jump forward 6 minutes in to get to the meat and potatoes! Thank you!
This is all good with the Amber one, but can you actually see thru the Smoke barrel? Mine is very dark, can’t see thru it at all unless I hold it in front of a very bright light.
Do you screw the piston cap back down when you have finished filling it?
I would assume!
You should if you're flying. If you want to write for long periods you should keep it unscrewed so the ink can flow
Excellent advice. Thank you soo much
God bless you. Thank you
Lovely presentation thanks
Thanks. This really helps!
It works! Great tip. I angled the pen nib about 35 degrees off the horizontal plane and all I got was some bubbles coming out of the "opening". Plunged into the ink and finished off pushing the plunger in, and Voila! A full Pilot 823 barrel... . Great pen. Thanks for the super tip.
Thank you very much for your video. It was very clear.
Whattaya know, it worked...you little smarty pants you.
Thank you!!
2020: this helps so much thank you dear! Now I have to buy another one.
Your demos are excellent! Short, concise and to the point! Please come back to UTube!!!
Very instructive. Thank you and regards from Helsinki
Thanks. Cool.
bitch please..
I just tried the method and it works, thanks!
How do you remove the ink from the pen to clean it?
Bravo!
Very nice demo of this trick. I just got mine and wondered why I wasn't getting a full reservoir. This explains it and remedies the problem. Thanks so much for your video!
Thank you!
You certainly know your stuff
worked for me
Ah, cool! I've had my 823 for about 5 years now, and had yet to figure out that one. Thanks!
Thats a great point, but i have seldom known modern materials (at least those used in pens) to be more durable and certainly not more reliable then what i find in old parkers and sheaffers
One thing to remember when comparing the Custom 823 to vintage vac-fillers like Shaeffers is that the 823 is a contemporary design using modern materials which are more durable and reliable, and thus less likely to be problematic over time. The 823 has become my all-time favorite writer over the last few years. To Dizzy: BIG thanks for this video, which answers the only two nagging questions I've had about this pen: how much ink it holds when completely full, *and* how to fill it to capacity.
I have had my 823 for about 4 years now. Admittedly, it is my top of the line fountain pen of about 1/2 dozen others, but it is such a pleasure to write with I never use the others. I tend to lean on the fine in nib sizes, and the 823 nib still glides over even cheaper paper, whereas the cheaper pens tend to catch the paper fibers. For me, this pen is the cats meow, and I can’t sing it’s praises high enough. Great pen!
Same pen AND ink I'm using right now!
Thanks for the tip. May i know what is the regular ink that you use? I haven't had much luck with noodler's black. It causes skipping to complete dryness. Appreciate your input. Cheers.
