    I am so glad I saw your video. No one can figure out why my flowers would not open correctly. We do have ants and each time… I see a flower bulb but it would not open. In reverse..it would fall off and die. The bulb that is (not the flower) and then okras itself would not grow bigger but dies. I tried your method last night and this morning.. I woke up.. truly.. the flower did open. Thank you.

      Thank you Sir for your query. Yes, immediately after emasculation can do the cross-pollination (at the afternoon time or even at the morning also can do) but better to do it at the next morning to consider the best time of anthesis period (maturity of the both stigma and pollen), and this is recommended for high success rate.

      If you cross in-between two hybrids the new F1 truly will be F2 generation and combination of multiple parents with major variability. For research purpose researcher can do this for the development of new parental lines but for general growers should not do that.

    • @mdamirulalam-6449
      @mdamirulalam-6449 Год назад

      Dear Mr., Oil Palm is a monecious tree (male and female flowers are in the same plant), meaning is that there is no question about selection of gender but yes! if it is related to hybridization then based on desired characteristics we need to select one as a male and another one as a female and obviously the process is by controlled cross-pollination. Hopefully it is clear to you.

    I have 3 bushy pots of this spinach here in my house in Seri Kembangan, Selangor, initial stock bought from Jabatan Pertanian Malaysia in Serdang. One pot is more than enough to eat but I have three. Unfortunately, it is not tasty at all according to my taste. And none of my of family members likes it, but I keep it anyway, use it when emergency in case no other vegetable at home. And most of my friends here in Klang Valley do not like the taste. No matter how I cook it, the vegetable is still tasteless and bland.

    • @mdamirulalam-6449
      @mdamirulalam-6449 2 года назад

      Yes Sir, thank for your comments and nice observation. Yes you are right, the taste is not pleasant but as you know due to continuous climate change and microclimatic variation many of our cultivated crops can't grow everywhere i.e., in similar climatic condition so, as plant scientist we are always searching for some new types of plants/crops even from the vast weed germplasms as our alternative food crops. And doing this we need to consider such minor unpleasant tests or flavors. We need to consider whether there is any major issues about anti-nutritional factors or health related toxicities. If no then no problem. I was truly surprised to observe the growing habits of that Brazilian spinach, the soil where I couldn't grow any other vegetables in that same soil Brazilian spinach is growing very nicely. And it is ratooning types can be harvested again and again from the continuous re-branching, which is very rare in other leafy vegetable's.

    • @Mustafa-Kamal-Satar
      @Mustafa-Kamal-Satar 2 года назад

      @@mdamirulalam-6449 I fully agree and appreciate your views about sissoo (Brazilian spinach). Yes, we need to promote new unconventional (unconventional in sense that there are not popular food veggies), sissoo fits as one of these unconventional vegetables. I firmly believe that not just due to change in climate but in case of wars and shortages of food supply, vegetables like Brazilian spinach comes in handy, it is easy to grow, and when it does grow, it does so abundantly. So, one reason why I still have 3 pots of Brazilian spinach at home (Haha!). I also grow MENGKUDU (noni plant which I eat leaves as cooked vegetable), KERMAK (Alternanthera sessilis), SELOM (Oenanthes javanic) and KELADI (Taro, Colocasia) etc, all of which are I think unconventional crops. Btw, I like the taste of mengkudu, kermak, selom and keladi way better than sissoo/Brazilian spinach. I see that you are a lecturer at Universiti Malaysia Sabah, I am a former lecturer at UPM in Serdang (Fisheries/Aquaculture), I am retired now.
