Very nice place. We were there in September and enjoyed one of the most beautiful sunsets there. Even the restrooms are nicely done.
What was the evening entertainment like ?

Looking good Larry! Keep the updates coming! Mossy
Is it a gooseberry that's being munched? If so it may actually be sawfly,
Great work Larry, if I get half that I will be happy. Looking forwartd to seeing more updates as well. All the best.
Looking good mate. Tomatoes are looking good.
Awesome update and thank you for sharing and have a blessed day
Great stuff. i am trying some spuds in Ikea bags had some so trying it just started and some carrots in a pot see how we go. Green house looks great too. Dave
Nice update Larry. I really need to sow some lettuce, no space yet!!
You've been busy Larry. Good man. Cheers.Chris
Yeah it's been a busy few weeks, but very pleased with it Thanks larry
Larry, great video, you are a very busy man. Keep the updates coming!
with your seeds that are not germinating try them in some damp kitchen towel and put in plastic bag and put in fridge for 2 weeks they should sprout if their healthy seeds
Thanks Linda Penney for the info about the seeds I will try that method. No animals were hurt in the making of the cage. Best wishes larry
no you miss understood me re the birds while you where showing us you undid the netting and left it open to finish the tour off and I was trying to saying did the birds or the butterfly's get into to you cabbages while it was open
I hope the birds did not get in while you left the netting up love the idea of your moveable netting cage
Hi Larry, Great update. Where did you get the netting? Need to get something similar. Was it expensive? Thanks Richard
Hi. Richard thanks for the comment. It's scaffolding netting I got it from Ebay it cost £24 for 2metres by 50 metres Cheers larry
My plot neighbour said that scaffold netting was good. Thanks
You have a lot going on there and it is all well under way. Thanks for a very comprehensive update, you are definitely showing me how it should be done. I only hope I am taking it all in quick enough. Thanks also for the shout out, if I was able to help you then that makes me happy. All the best and looking forward to more.
Thanks Aaron. No problem I enjoy watching your videos.
Brilliant update Larry. I've grown potatoes in pots before and I've been impressed with the yield. Haven't seen someone bury the pots so deep into the ground before so it will be interesting to see how you get on.
Hi Larry. Thats interesting burying your potatoe containers, great update Larry and thanks for sharing with us.
Belting job Larry ! It will be interesting to see how your potato project turns out ? Very detailed video well done !!
Thanks Ian I planted some more today straight into the ground in the same bed along side the ones in the containers. Only time will tell to see which has the best yield
Very interesting project with your potato tubs. I grew a salad potato last year in tubs (Esquita, not seed but regular Tesco) stored them in the tubs in my shed, tipped them out last Saturday and they were in perfect condition! I would have had a better yield if I had watered more carefully. Its a job I leave till last because its boring and I'm idle too. This year I'm planting all my potatoes in tubs and have turned over a new leaf about the idleness. Thank you for sharing your allotment experience, I really enjoy your vids. LOL
Thanks for the comments. I also planted some more today straight into the ground it's going to be interesting to see which has the best yield. Will need watch the watering once the foliage gets above the containers Best wishes larry
Wow you are not doing anything by halves there, and it looks like you have put a lot of hard work and money into growing those spuds. I have never seen anyone use that technique before burying the containers so far down and I really hope it works well for you. I think like everyone else I am really interested to see what happens and how it turns out. You could well have started a brand new gardening technique if you end up with a bumper crop. All the best and well done.
Hi Aaron. I was listening to a gardening program on the radio from the USA about this technique and after watching Dan's video about space and growing them in containers it will be interesting to see if it does work. Don't think it will beat Brendan's yield Best wishes larry P.s Loved your video on how to put up a greenhouse
You can get a ericaceous feed from wilkos or garden centre. As Brendan said it wouldn't hurt to top dress the bed with some ericaceous compost. Cheers Chris.
Cheers Chris I'll drop into the garden center later. Don't think we've got a Wilkos here I'll have to ask the wifey Best wishes larry
Lovely video Larry I have two blueberry bushes for the first-time hoping mined will be ok and planting my first ever seed potatoes I only got ear lies at present called rocket hopefully will plant this weekend
Thanks Linda. My wife loves blueberries so she will be happy with a big crop. How's your pear tree project coming along
Larry Burford both my apple seeds and pears seed have got two tiny leaves on at the moment
Hi Larry, I know nothing about blueberries but, if they like acid compost it might be worth picking up a bag of ericaceous compost that is used for acid loving plants like Rhododendrons etc and giving them a dressing. I don't plant my tubs as deep as you did but you mentioned moisture retention. That is important as you will need to keep an eye on water because the leaf canopy will shed water away from the bucket and, unlike nearby potatoes in traditional growing, most won't go to another potato plant. My only concern would be waterlogging if the ground gets too wet because that's an issue I have to deal with all the time as the water table is high on my ground even though I am on top of a hill... the clay pan is only about a foot down so my spuds would be standing in water. You've done some digging at that soil because you have it in beautiful condition. It's a real credit to you. I hope your spuds do well or I'll feel very guilty...no I'll not, I'll blame Dan. Best Wishes, Brendan.
Thanks Brendan. The soil is good on my plot it's about 2.5 feet of good soil before I start to hit the sub soil. So drainage is good I've got a couple of water butts a couple of feet away from the beds so haven't got to walk far to fetch it. I'll pick up some ericaceous compost thanks for the advice. Don't worry if the crop isn't as good ill point the finger Dan's way Best wishes larry
everything looks ready to go!
Looks like you're all sorted for the year ahead. I love that cold frame.
I hope your kettle do not boil dry lovely video thanks for sharing Larry
Thanks for the update :-)
Your ahead of me mate. Your kettles gunna boil dry. Mine did and a had to replace it 😫
I reckon that bee was lost. Really interesting looking around your plot and seeing everything that you have got going over there. You certainly seem to be completely on top of things and planning ahead. Very nice and thorough update Larry, thanks for sharing.
Hi larry, I have just subbed you, I have a polytunnel identical to yours, its now in its 3rd season but its started to rot, as soon as it starts to rot I would cover it with a heavy duty see through tarp, I have just built a greenhouse out of one (see my video) I decided to build another instead of repairing the tunnel as I am allowing my chickens to use it as shelter when it rains, plus the fact that I have moved it 3 times and the metal frame is starting to weaken, you have a great looking plot there though, all the best simon
Hi mate just stumbled across your videos and have subscribed.. One thought about the plastic idea over the cage you have acounted for the added weight and saggage from snow ond water?
Hi Bill thanks for the sub.I have thought about the extra weight on the roof am going to put a couple more posts in then run a few 3x2 across that should take the extra weight when it snows. Thanks larry
Larry Burford Good am looking forwards to seing more vids I,ve had issues uploading recently but will get some up ASAP.
Looking good Larry !! Those slim raised beds are bang on, I did the same on my allotment along my fence as not to waste growing space ! P.S don't Wadsworth brew a beer called 6X ?????
Thanks Ian. Last year I grew my Butternut squash around bamboo canes. Thought they would look good hanging along the fence this year The only Brew I would make from this stuff is green tea fertiliser. The stuff stinks.
you are obviously a good gardener. Great work for one year. Where in the UK are you?
Thanks Matthew. Really enjoying my allotment one of the best things I have done. Best wishes larry
I forgot yo answer your question I live in Cardiff
We've had it really bad with the rain here so I haven't been able to do much at all. You look as though you are getting off to a flyer though. All the best, Aaron
I use that 6x but its called grow organic here. I get it form the lotty shop. £6.20 a bag. The bag lasts me 2 years on my half plot. Its really strong stuff and if put on to thickly can burn young root systems. Plots coming along nicely Larry. Soon be putting ya spubs in. ☺ Cheers Chris.
Hi Chris. I only spread it on the potato bed so it's got time to soak in. I use a handful into the compost mix for the hanging baskets. They sell the chicken 6x at our allotment shop I will try that on the brassica bed. Cheers
I see. Grow organic is chicken manure. Really good stuff. Some of the old boys only use grow organic on my site. Saves there backs. My plot neighbour had a bag of it in a wheelie bin. He forked some holes in the bag and filled the bin with water. Great feed for the plot. I use that much of it last year that I winter dug his plot for him as a thank you lol. Cheers, Chris.
Hi Larry. Great video. I've got red hot pokers in my garden at home. keep up the good work. nice site you have. Gary
Thanks Gary. Looking forward to seeing it in flower.
Hi Michael. I saw your video when you put a door on your polytunnel. That's why I put a door on mine when the zip broke it's makes it much easier getting into it now. Thanks larry
If you have very clay soil that will hold the water so that may have something to do with it as well. Great work on the polytunnel, and best of luck with the year ahead. You look in great shape for the new season.
Hi Larry, they say an hour's work in Winter is worth 6 in Spring and Summer (or something like that..essentially, it's well worth doing). I have a water and drainage issue because I'm on a flat section of the top of a hill and water is held in the soil. I have lovely, loamy soil but clay only a foot under so there's nowhere for water to sink to. I built raised beds 8' to 12" high (depending on materials available) to get the plants up and it helped a lot. Will your plot drain quickly if it gets a chance? If not, I would suggest raising the sides of your beds... expensive to do all at once because they have to be filled too and an 8x4 bed holds a lot of soil but it could be an ongoing project, one at a time. I'm looking forward to seeing how you develop the plot not that the groundwork s mostly done. Best Wishes, Brendan.
Thanks Brendan. The plot normally drains well, I think it's because we are close to the river and with all the rain the water table is higher than normal. Am thinking about raising the beds if it's a Constant problem. Larry
Looking good dad, looking forward to the berries please!!
Larry that is an awesome record of your first year and very well done. To go from nothing to all that is simply breathtaking. All the best for next year mate! - Aaron
Thanks Aaron. Looking forward to next year. Learnt a lot this year to carry me forward into next season. Looking forward to your updates next year. Larry
A short look at how my allotment changed in my first year. Thanks for watching would appreciate any comments. Larry
