This video provides a brief overview of the State Supported Living Centers in Texas. However, it does NOT provide a comprehensive review. The video paints a rosy picture of the Centers. This is not reality! The Centers have a LONG history of abuse, neglect, exploitation, sub-standard levels of care, Olmstead Decision violations and deaths. The State of Texas entered into a Settlement Agreement with the Department of Justice in June 2009 agreeing to make substantive changes in operations of each of the state supported living centers to achieve targeted improvements in services and supports for individuals living in these facilities. Closure/consolidation of the SSLCs to meet the need was recommended. Maintaining 13 SSLC is a fiscally irresponsible!!
