i lived in St. Louis for four years as a student. I loved it. Great pizza places, great shopping, great beer, and Busch Stadium!!! There was a pub on The Hill i loved to go to. Some very unexpected and weird stuff happened during the battle: The pretender's (Nikephoros Bryennios the Elder) right flank managed to bounce back from the initial ambush set by Alexius and actually routed the ambushers as well as Alexios' left flank. Nikephoros' left flank Pecheneg cavalry mercenaries routed Alexios' right flank, then, assuming the battle was as good as won, proceeded to turn back to plunder Nikephoros' (their own employer) camp, then promptly left the battle. Dick move... While the Pechenegs ransacked the camp, Nikephoros' servants took his parade horse and swords of state and were leading them off to safety when the retreating Alexius and his bodyguards somehow stumbled into their path, so they stole Nikephoros' parade horse. It must have been chaos so I guess they took advantage of it lmao. Alexios Later regrouped with what was left of his men and his Turkish horse archers and stole the victory
