These are the Chasseurs à Pied of the Old Guard, distinguished by their scarlet over green plumes, pointed scarlet cuffs piped in white, scarlet and green epaulettes, and pointed lapels. Also, their bearskins (unlike the grenadiers) do not have a brass plate. There are, however, two Grenadiers à Pied present who do have the brass plates on the front of their bearskins, scarlet plumes, different cuffs, square-ended lapels and a scarlet bonnet patch (nicknamed cul de singe!) showing a white 'grenade fired proper'. Some of the insignia, not visible here, would also have been different between the two regiments - on the ammunition pouches, turnbacks on the coat tails, sword knots (different colours) and even the tiny brass tie (clip) securing the rear of the wig. I should be very pleased to hear from anyone else (in English!) regarding the above - you never stop learning.

I don’t understand the glorification of a dictator who subverted the revolution and tried to conquer so many other countries just to “follow his star” and cause the death of millions. And then lost it all. What a tragedy for all of Europe. Britain didn’t take him to St. Helena to suppress his memory. Only the French can decide on his memory. He had already shown himself to be too dangerous if given a gentle and easy exile in Elba by returning and causing more death and destruction.
