This is the hill section between Karjat & Lonavla stations of western Maharashtra, while on the way from Mumbai to Pune city. Central Zone of Railways. Glad you liked it.
Nice one, but still inspite of these powerful locos delay is tremendous. Freight locos with lhb is not a nice combination. Pickup is slow, run is not very aggressive, heavy power control.
Delay is mostly due to traffic. An EMU and a freight train crossed in the same direction, within half an hour of Intercity. And it bacame evident that she would be delayed. WCAM/3, though a mixed type loco, was primarily brought in for hauling passenger trains only. Acceleration may not be as good as a WAP7, but still is quite good. Agree with you, would love to see improved punctuality on our routes in future, with DFCs, advanced signalling, doubling/tripling, raising of the sectional speed limit etc being carried out. Thanks for watching.
Does not matter that much wcam3 in DC days had enough power to handle 25 coach on gradients with no delay or before, with total aggression even with WCG2 with freights. Now all wcam3s are 6P. I do agree that freight movement is tremendous but its freight loco ultimately. When is was DC fit tgat time on DC mode its TE was 26 tonnes and on AC mode TE was 40.2 tonnes. 40. 2 tonnes means freight loco only. On single stretch as well 6P versions can do wonders. No question of DFCs and advanced signalling, these things are only for entertaining three phasers.
DFCs is different thing altogether. No question of advanced signalling wcam3, wag7 and wcag1 can do wonders no one knows on even tough stretches as well. Even it was made to handle freights on DC mode and it did easily.
These are DC powered engines which have more endurance, are more reliable and more powerful than 3 phasers. Only thing is that fake things are said about these DC engines.
