How about doing something to exterior. Its the north shore eye sore..
@@boultang68 I will don’t you worry about it. Soon it will be instagramable. Can you share some of your own crib pics for the sake of inspiration? ;-)
Enjoy watching your progress. I'm here in the Philippines 🌴
Yeah, those doors are not very good.
👍
Looks great!! 🎉
It was great meeting you and being able to see your project firsthand! Hope to come back to the island soon
@@Luke-n8v3l please do and thanks for your tips and support
Good work

Care to share the financials (i.e. cost of land, construction, etc). Love the project!
Glad to hear that everything is good. Love watching your project thank you.
I wonder why it’s hard to find insulation on island?
@@mangothyme I agree with you …. It is like they don’t believe in it. Only fibreglass and for me it is a no no. I had to ship my spray foam from Florida. There is one shop here rooftops and they told me they have a machine but they haven’t done it for many years I was told. So better just get the stuff in a container (paradise freight) and get it to you.
HI, I'm looking to move and build a container home in USVI. Can you share the process with building permits and zoning.
@@nickym2356 connect with Xavier at ABR Drafting (Facebook.com/abrdrafting). You can trust him and his crew. He single handed all the process for me and I was not even on the island most of the time.

Did you bolt the container to the concrete posts ?

Sir, can you please tell me what the weather conditions are there "right now"? Are you guys OK with the hurricane? I can't get a decent report??? Also, I'm coming to the island in August. Will you be there? I'd really like to meet you guys.
@@FineEpicArt777 everything is fine - no issue with us. As for being there we are in and out often. Send me an email at 113canebay@gmail.com and will let you know based on your own travel dates.
nice work! almost looks completed from far.
Like your door color 👍
Thanks - can’t wait to complete the siding
Hopefully you washed the salt off of it with fresh water, brushed it, and washed it again, let it dry before painting it? Otherwise there is a salt layer (clearly evident from all of the corrosion / battery effect between the metal types) that won't permit the paint to stick. It will all bubble and start to slide off in the next rain storm or three. Once a bit of water gets behind the paint, there is no stopping it. You know you cleaned the surface enough when you can lick the wall and not taste salt. Seriously. That is how the locals do it. And you can't wash it one day and paint the next, because the salt spray puts the salt right back within hours. Park a car there and see how fast the a clear windshield gets cloudy, covered in salt. You have to wash a small section, and then wash another small section while the first is drying, then go back and paint the first while the second is drying. Then paint the second. Then paint a second coat on the first, then paint a second coat on the second. Repeat with small sections over and over again till done. You shouldn't just wash and paint one large section. If not, Oh well. You will be scraping, peeling, and washing and painting it again. And again. And again. And you can't just throw the stripped paint into the ocean, either,. Right? By the looks of it, if you don't hurry and then stay on top of it, that ocean is going to eat your crates before you can even use them. Every wave, big or small, is a claw grabbing at it 24/7/365. Nature has all the time in the world to win. It will only get worse once there is power there constantly, then it is just a giant anode and cathode linked by salty humidity. And paint won't be able to stop that.
Very nice, beautiful color. It no longer looks like an eyesore. I've followed you from the beginning and you've really come a long way. Someday when you're finished, paint the sides with another nice Caribbean color. Me and my best girl will be there again in August. It will be our forth time. I'm looking forward to meeting you. I'd like to pick your brain and learn some things. Dinner will be on me at The Landing. I do all my diving at Sweet Bottom. Look forward to seeing you soon. Once again, nice job!
Siding is not done yet so it will look even better by end of the year.
Door color is nice
Some landscaping would help to blend your container homes.
Siding is not done yet and yes landscape wil come.
Thank you
According to the local Government, there are no Private Beaches in that jurisdiction.
Click bait ;-) thanks for visiting my RUclips channel
How hard is it to get shipping container there
Sometimes, you can buy local, but otherwise, you go to Miami, buy one there, and get it shipped empty (for a discount) to St Croix. We use Paradise Freight.
Is nice you shared the water toys with the kids
Sir, You spent a lot of money on the lot and with everything else you've been doing, it doesn't seem worth it in terms of $. Not to mention all your sweat, TIME and hard work equity. By the time you are done doing EVERYTHING you need to finish, you will have spent over 400K (lot with container) plus your hard work. Think what you could've bought for that money almost turn key. I've been following you from the very beginning and your first video. Am I missing something? Please explain your thought process. You're also pulling a lot of time helping others because they're helping you but I understand this. This needs to be done but it's more time and time = $. Ps. I sure hope you're going to spray and paint the container on all sides to make it look nice??? The swing doors look the worst. I would've painted them long time ago although your deck looks really nice! How about a tour sometime on the INSIDE? Nobody has seen that real good yet. What's it look like with some nice lighting?
Time will tell but I have a long term plan and I am not building this only for me but for generations to come. I have 5 kids. I understand and keep following you will see more progress coming this year. PS I am way bellow the 400k you are mentioning
I’m a operation manager for a camping club in Washington state if you have any questions get ahold of me anytime I do everything from Electrical to building
Thank you for your videos any part of building and living on the island is awesome. If you clean then coat seal the bottom of your container it will last so much longer Otherwise your bottom will rust out being that close to the ocean it will rust fast
Yes it is something I am looking to do in a near future
New video coming soon
Such a bummer to stroll beautiful Cane Bay and see your shitty looking cargo container on the beach...Nice! Terrible idea to allow those to be built there.
Coming with someone hiding under a fake account with no house to compare too ;-)
Are you not concerned if hurricanes
Look at my neighbour SpratNet or even Off The Wall, which is built with wood. They have withstood several hurricanes and are still standing. The shipping containers at Off the Wall were not destroyed; I do not expect mine to be either. If we get a 10-foot surge, the island will be in trouble. My ten concrete posts under my container are 6 feet down, and now, with the slab and one more that I will add, I will have 60 tones at the base. Hurricanes are always concerning, but I am trying to minimize risks.
stopped in at your container this week - great progress on both!
Thanks - I do my best trying to build the legacy for my 4 boys
Nice one day by day.
Yes indeed
Cute video
Use only stainless steel screws!
I agree with you. I will start using stainless steel screws going forward and will replace the one I installed for the framing itself later on.
I love your videos The wife and I are planning a trip to st croix our first vacation ever. We are also looking at land while we are there, I also want to build myself. Thank you for your videos it’s awesome to watch the journey and the information you provide.
Thanks - everyone can do it and with RUclips the learning is endless. Welcome to the island and go for it.
nice, well done. pretty leveled and straight. thanks for protecting the beach and the nature. turtles, crabs and also people can now enjoy the beach without cars, oil and
I live in Florida, where traditionally beach access has always been allowed (for pedestrians) up and down the beach, and with periodic access to the sides of properties here and there, as well as public beach parks. As time goes on, however - I noticed particularly at some spots on the gulf coast - there's a trend of property owners (condos & clubs) blocking beachgoers from using the beach in front of their properties. I don't know the legalities of this: How far to the water do they own? Their assertion obviously is that they own the land INTO the water. How this will stand the test of time I don't know.
Exactly - as you said, periodic access to the sides of properties should be a given everywhere, and I intend to do just that. Thanks for following my channel.
A fence and landscaping would give you more privacy.
Good evening sir! Enjoy your videos, I was wondering what source I could look into for building a container home on St. Croix! Permits, codes, regulations thanks so much. I can’t seem to find a good source and have been looking for property there and intrigued by your container design! Thanks!
Permit we use facebook.com/abrdrafting/ Xavier knows everything inside out, and he is honest and dependable. As for the rest, it follows the standard USVI building code, nothing different because it is a metallic structure.
Your place is coming along nicely. Can you give a ruff estimate how much the pillars and cistern cost to build? I am considering my options to move back to the island. Thanks
australian stupid Beach , Mexico New Zelands
I like the natural look - Better than too smooth. Good choice
it was a lot of work :) good work, great results
We saw your container home when there 2 weeks back
I know I saw you ;-) Still work in progress but we will be pushing hard next year to finish it
I do not understand why they still allow to build right on the beach.
We build past the 50 foot regulation from the beach. St Croix ain’t Costa Rica. Thanks for following our progress.
It brings down the value of St. Croix and the beauty of the beach. This looks like a Trailer Park Trash type of thing. One major hurricane, and it all goes in the sea.
,,@@rln2u I would love to comment on your place too. Do you have a channel so I could get some tips from you?
Hey man, the project is coming along great! I've been following along since the beginning and will be visiting the island in December.
