Dr. J, David Thompson, Dan Issel, Bobby Jones, Marvin Webster. Throw in Artis Gilmore, Maurice Lucas and George Gervin, and the ABA had more talent than that other league.
I had not realized CBS broadcast these ABA playoff rounds. More network coverage would have saved the league financially.
Why I ride a Sportster...... 💯🤙🏽😎
Damn! I've had this on the mind since childhood, haven't heard it in forever! Thank you!
I lived in Seattle during Marvin Webster's season there, he was pretty much useless. He had a bad attitude and didn't appear to alway put his best effort forward. Yes we went to the finals with him and only lost because Dennis Johnson shot horribly from the field in that series. Is it a coincidence that we won the championship the season after Webster left? I think not, Jack Sikma was much better.
I remember the ‘78 and ‘79 Sonics. I agree that Webster exaggerated his own importance to that team. With him gone, the Sonics won the title. I’ll bet he noticed.
The Nets entering the Nba without Erving, was worse then bosox trading babe Ruth to yanks
Thanks,ABA films of games are pretty rare.
Is that Summerall doing color? I know Criqui is doing the play by play but that sounds just like Sumerall too. That blew me away. We forget all the legends start somewhere.
Thanks for this. Growing up in a non-ABA city, the league was only something I read about in Sports Illustrated.
You missed a wonderful and spirited basketball league. I consider myself very lucky to have watched the ABA during my youth. Attended many Kentucky Colonels games, often against their rivals the Pacers!
Enjoyed listening to this game with my dad. Good times.

What an amazing guy George was!!! It's so clear that the journalist there was falling 🎉in love with him! as she was captured by his sharm while explaining his spiritual beliefs. He was just magic!!!!
I missed the old days
Thompson vs dr j last final
I was 9 when this came out, and started my love of motorcycles, and a young Bonnie bedelia started my love of women, triumph in 79 in the military riding from VA to NJ on weekend leave. 55 yrs later and still riding but it’s been Harley’s for yrs
and .. 1 -Year later fors Sale on normal Market.. NOT... a *Third...
WAY TOO MANY ADS! I can't watch this.
Boone vs Freeman - great matchup! 2 of my fav ABAers
we need more complete ABA games
What's with the jerky video??
Thanks for sharing. The ABA rules. The DR. was awesome.
to get this, select Pipes then Settings then Textured then choose texture but WAIT! CANCEL! now press OK on the settings, BOOM! you see it already! to make it bigger, select Preview .
this looks laggy
LOVED the ABA! And the NEW YORK Nets. Brian Taylor from my hometown of Perth Amboy.
non catch
If the ball did hit the ground it did so at the point where it is obscured by Dolbin's right hand after the double clutch. Result: Inconclusive.
Lo-res video?!? Really?!? Huge fail!!
If you read Alanna Nash's book you'll find Jessica really didn't do much reporting on this story. It was a team of producers that did the heavy lifting. Her death was just a freak accident. Pure and simple.
😮 Better talent in ABA than NBA in 70’s!
Growing up I remember watching exactly 2 ABA games on TV: an ABA All Star Game from, I believe, Louisville (don't remember the year) and this game here. My memory watching this game (I was 11) was that the crowd was really going bonkers the whole game. Somehow this video doesn't capture the crowd noise that I remember.
I loved the ABA
A lot of people do not appreciate the greatness of Julius Erving truly an underrated player!
Erving was part of the reason why the NBA finally agreed to a merger with the ABA. He was the best player in the game in 1976.
Didn’t know Don Criqui worked for CBS. When I think of him, I associate him with NBC.
I'm a baby boomer so I can inform you that Don worked at CBS Sports from 1967 to 1979, then from 1988 to 2012.
@@rendragmedia I think it was 1998 to 2012. Don Criqui was still doing the NFL on NBC in the 90’s.
Bonnie Bedelia never grew old, to me anyways. She still looks great. She and Michael sure made an impression on me with this movie. I was just 14 and still am when I see these videos.
I was 14 also. I still ride a V twin.
@@BIGLOVE4TRUTH - I finally graduated to a Harley Road King but now I wish I had gotten a Triumph. Now I'm stuck with a hog.
Loved Then Came Bronson and Michael Parks ❤...have a lot of albums and cd's...miss him alot😢
As someone who currently plays in the ABA it’s crazy to see how big it use to be and how small it is now
Yes who is champion of aba now now they have 100 teams
@@master-kq3nw still Indiana 😂 last year the Indiana Lyons won. And they are usually always ranked #1
@@master-kq3nw also they’ll just let anyone make a team now but those teams usually shutdown after a season or two
@@ThatsCT oh i think that won title Jacksonville giants hm
@@ThatsCT big mistake is that NBA did not let squiers spirits st Louis and colonels join in NBA,
Don Criqui and Pat Summerall, wow a CBS game
The game was on May 13, not May 17!
GO GO GOVAN! I don't care what anybody says, lf McGinnis had better shot selection, he would have been a better player.
If McGinnis had not just relied on his physical skills alone, he would have been a better player. *If McGinnis had been willing to engage in practice (ask Larry Brown) he would have been a better player- had a longer peak. *If McGinnis had played defense he would have been a better player. *If McGinnis had not forgot how to make free throws the last 3 years of his career (he never was good) he would have been a better player (this all goes back to not wanting to practice) *If McGinnis had not been the all-time leader in turnovers, he would have been a better player. That being said, George McGinnis remained- to his dying day- an especially nice guy who for the first 3 or 4 years of his career had jaw-dropping physical skills and put up some astounding offensive numbers in the ABA. Didn't really translate over to the NBA for all the reasons listed above.
It was a sausage fest in the beginning.
We get it Brian, you like sausage.

Please show the channel 9 nets broadcast.
Awesome video and thanks for posting! I love watching these old school games, so much history. I was 8 years old at this time and I remember Julius Erving a.k.a. Dr. J really was THE MAN! Dr. J was kind of like Michael Jordan before MJ was MJ, lol. It's also nice to see David Thompson out there. I'll always remember him playing for N.C. State and how in awe my friends and I were about his vertical game. Maybe 2 years before he played that epic game vs UCLA in the Tourney. Great memories!
Erving's finest game on video. Love how the PA announcer announces rebounds. "Rebound Julius Erving!" Great video. Thanks.
Super John Williamson continue to rest in paradise
