Canvases this size can be inconvenient to ship and store. Assembling smaller canvas units together makes them much easier to ship and store. Here's how they go together, setting up the next painting in a new series that I'm super excited to share with you!

    I think the most remarkable attribute of the hypar, is that it is a compound-curve surface, which can be formed entirely by straight lines. Also, I believe its strength/stability comes from the fact that distortion forces are all resisted by the linear tensile strength of those straight lines. Other, not so stable shapes depend on the stiffness (resistance to bending) of the lines and joints, to resist distortion. Most (hard) materials are much better at resisting linear rather than bending forces.

      Hi Arjun, this structure is typically used for roofs. It was popular in the USA in the 1960's for banks and churches. A google search of "hyperbolic paraboloid roof" will show you some examples.

    The rods you used are rigid right?...it's just the angle that makes it look more like a curve

      Yes, it's 3/8" dowel from the hardware store. This design is sometimes used for roofs because it creates a curved plane using straight lumber.

      Thanks man. I just started filming this year and I LOVE having the entire experience to refer to. It's so much better than what I would otherwise remember, like just the strike, or a jump. How has your season progressed? Looking forward to more gorgeous footage from your adventures.

      @@JamesThatcher_jtnwdc agreed about using film for the memories. A lot of times you find a fish when your mind is completely out of it. Been a struggle up here but hopefully have some springer videos soon and maybe one last steelhead video. Finally got a head mount. Can’t say it looks good on me haha

    • @JamesThatcher_jtnwdc
      @JamesThatcher_jtnwdc 3 года назад

      @@PerkBuilders It's hard to figure that camera angle on the head mount. Think "45 degrees" and do some test footage. The last couple fish I've caught have been spawned out--thinking of baggin' it for the season, maybe (!)

      Hi Saram, The hypotenuse of the side triangles is 22.5". I had 48" dowels and wanted to get 2 lengths out of those. The fixture is a right triangle, 45 degree hypotenuse. Have fun with it!

      @@JamesThatcher_jtnwdc I don't believe the angles matter, but it is easier & prettier if they are symmetrical & parallel. (So the max-min point of the hypar is in the center of the structure, rather than offset.)

      @JamesThatcher_jtnwdc 7 лет назад

      Sorry for not responding--somehow your comment didn't get to me...or I didn't know how to find it. I use the cheapest masking tape I can find, 3/4" or 19mm. The clear matte medium really does the work. If I'm taping over recently painted areas then I press the tape on my pants a couple of times to reduce the tack of the tape's adhesive. Best Wishes and thanks for your question.
