Your Chemical Embrace
A poem originally written while in the depths of trying to get off an antidepressant. At that time, I felt that getting off would never be possible and I felt trapped. Medical advice consisted of telling me I was wrong and the difficulties and symptoms were 'all in my head', compounding the sense of isolation.
This poem is included in the collection 'We Are the Change Makers' available from PPCS books. www.pccs-books.co.uk/products/we-are-the-change-makers

As a mental health professional, I disagree with the message in Paul Daley’s article (We face a pandemic of mental health disorders, 24 March). We’re not facing “a pandemic of severe mental health disorders”. We’re all facing entirely normal fear, anxiety, despair and confusion about a truly terrifying situation that challenges our whole way of life. Never has it been clearer that so-called “me...
Mirtazapine Withdrawal Using Tapering Strips - A Video Diary

Hi. Can I ask how you got hold of lower than 15mg tablets ? As far as I know, it’s only available in 15mg, 30mg and 45mg. I’ve just started tapering from 45mg having been on this dose for 10 years. I’m having to just cut 15s in half so 45 to 37.5 and currently on 30mg. I’m feeling the effects though

I’m reluctant to take them as I’m not sure I can put up with the side effects or risk it plus I’ve heard getting off it in the future is very difficult

Hi Nick, I actually was fortunate to have a family friend who could help me get tapering strips but everything else I did on my own. There are a few doctors who are familiar with tapering but what I suggest is that whoever you work with, share with them the Royal College of Psychiatrists guidance note found here: www.rcpsych.ac.uk/mental-health/treatments-and-wellbeing/stopping-antidepressants which makes it pretty clear that people need to taper slowly. Hope you manage to find someone helpful. All the best.

Excellent talk on the way drugs are way overused, dosages being quickly increased ,then being left on these drugs for years, without ever addressing the real core problems by doctors and psychiatrists who give you 10 minutes if you're lucky. I only come to this awareness last year after being fobbed off with antidepressants over a 32 year period. They are not the answer.

Dont take these damn drugs.....use natural remedies that actually cure disease and dont have millions of side effects...magnesium for example...Ayurveda.....exercise....nature.....good food The drugs are big business that ruin peoples lives Remeron may cause serious side effects including: feeling restless, racing thoughts, decreased need for sleep, unusual risk-taking behavior, feelings of extreme happiness or sadness, being more talkative than usual, blurred vision, tunnel vision, eye pain or swelling, seeing halos around lights, lightheadedness, fever, chills, sore throat, mouth sores, changes in weight or appetite, severe rash, blisters, or swelling on the palms of your hands or the soles of your feet, convulsions (seizure), headache, confusion, slurred speech, severe weakness, vomiting, loss of coordination, and feeling unsteady Get medical help right away, if you have any of the symptoms listed above. Common side effects of Remeron include: drowsiness increased appetite weight gain dizziness, and nausea Tell your doctor if you experience serious side effects of Remeron including: agitation, hallucinations, fever, fast or uneven heart rate, loss of coordination or feeling unsteady, stiff muscles, confusion, tremors, flu symptoms, memory problems, weakness, overactive reflexes, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, loss of coordination, sweating, feeling like you might pass out, chills, body aches, white patches or sores inside your mouth or on your lips, headache, or trouble concentrating. Bottom line....these side effects can last years and cause you to have a psychotic break....end up in hospital and be stigmatized and prescribed more drugs that mess you up more....its a business....I ended up on Risperidone .... Side effects can include Risperidone also has anticholinergic effects that alter how smooth muscles (those that make up the internal organs) function. Because of these properties, Risperdal may cause the following side effects in at least one percent of users: Agitation Amenorrhea (absent period) Anxiety Arthralgia (joint pain) Asthenia (physical weakness and lack of energy) Blurred vision Constipation Cough Diarrhea Epistaxis (nosebleeds) Dizziness Dyspnea (shortness of breath) Excessive salivation Fatigue Galactorrhea (milky breast discharge) Gynecomastia (male breast enlargement) Hirsutism (abnormal hair growth in women) Increased appetite Indigestion Myalgia (muscle pain) Nausea and vomiting Nasal congestion Painful intercourse in women Rash Retrograde ejaculation (ejaculation of semen into the bladder rather than out of the body) Seborrhea (a scaly, patchy skin condition) Somnolence (sleepiness or drowsiness) Sore throat Sleep disturbances Suicidal thoughts Upper abdominal pain Upper respiratory tract infection Urinary incontinence Weight gain Xerostomia (dry mouth) Don't take these damn drugs.....even a couple of these side effects that can last years can make your life worse than when you asked for help use natural remedies that actually cure disease and don't have millions of side effects...magnesium for example...Ayurveda.....

@@teamburyoutdoors6989 Heya, well it didnt turn out so well in the end to be honest. I got about a month into being off them and pretty much had a full breakdown, I felt like I was losing my mind. It seemed to be a combo of the withdrawal plus all the emotions coming back etc that just overloaded me. Had a few really bad nights before I got to see a doctor again. Long story short im back on antidepressants, I went through all the various types online, checking side effects, what theyre good for and had a few that I suggested to the Dr and ended up trying Fluoxetine (Prozac US) I know it seems odd going for what is now an older one but after a few months on it now im really a lot better, hugely in fact. Started off on 20mg and upped it to 30mg where I am now and everything is pretty steady. I really would never recommend Venlafaxine to anyone though as looking back it just seemed to mask everything rather than really help things get better and the withdrawal was just insane & wouldnt wish it on anyone. Sorry youre finding it tough at the moment, are you coming off a similar dosage? If theres anything I can do to help, even just chatting here then feel free to shout.

@@TheBaronVonBoom sorry you had a break down and had to go back on them. If you feel better on Prozac then do what is best for you. Well my story is a little different I was on lexapro for two years at 20 mg. Then I also had a mental breakdown during Christmas time of last year. So the doctor put me on 37.5 mg of Effexor for a week and then 75 mg , I didn’t last a month on it. Made my depression/anxiety worse so I decided to stop taking it. So now I feel like the Effexor and lexapro are coming out of my body which has been tough . Not sure if it’s the Effexor Or lexapro that I’m withdrawing from. I recently started microdosing with magic mushrooms at a super small dose and haven’t noticed an incredible change only been doing it for a week now , but I’m going to try and keep it up.
