Warren of Walks
Добавлен 3 сен 2023
Living just off the western edge of the Peak District, I spend most of my free time either taking photos or making videos of the excellent countryside near my home. Occasionally, I get to wander off to somebody else's countryside, but mostly I create quiet walking and hiking videos in the Peaks for a peaceful watching experience. I try to keep most of the twists and turns in there for anyone that wants to follow in my footsteps, but feel free to ask if you want to know where I've been.
Other than my quiet walks, you may occasionally be subjected to stories of local history, folklore, spooky tales, or just a self indulgent video of a tree in the wind!
So if you need some high resolution scenery or ambient background to slump down with, then follow me outside, from the comfort of your couch.
Thanks,
Warren.

Blackden Brook to Kinder Plateau - From The Snake Pass - Peak District
Blackden Barn, Blackden Brook or Blackden Moor?... Whichever name you may use or have heard for this place, that's where the walk is this time :-D
If you're not already familiar with this area in general, you may have driven through the Peak District towards Sheffield or Manchester (coming from either way) along the Snake Pass (A57) and looked into some of the valleys along the hillside and thought, "I wonder what's in those?" Well the answer to one of those valleys is: Blackden Brook! (Or Blackden Barn...) and there's a good chance, depending on which side of the road you're looking at, that the top of the hills is actually the Kinder plateau!
A few times I've described one of the cloughs...

How the Devil's Elbow got it's name - Polterhikes - Peak District Folklore
Просмотров 111Месяц назад
The tale of how the Devil's Elbow got it's name! The Devil's Elbow is a sharp bend on the B6105 in the Longdendale Valley in the Peak District. It's a spot of excessive paranormal activity... at least in terms of sharp bends in the road :-D There are a couple of legends as to why the spot became known as "The Devil's Elbow" and I've got one for you this time, and the next tale will be in my nex...

Brushes Valley Reservoirs for todays walk! I ended doing this one on a bit of a whim. The weather forecast went from one wet day and four sunny days to choose from... to the opposite. So I chose this spot for a quick decision as I know it fairly well as a mountain bike route I use. Luckily the weather was at least spot on for this day. It was about as nice as you could expect, even though I do ...

This time I've been on a short wander around the Dyfi Nature Reserve in Borth, Ceredigion. Just north of Aberystwyth in Mid Wales. About half the length of my usual videos for this one, because it was another unintended capture. I went for a quick explore whilst I had some light left and found it was nicer than expected. So I thought I might as well grab a video too with the evening being so ni...
Woodhead Wander and Loftend Quarry, Crowden - Peak District - #quietwalks #nature #slowtv

Off along the Woodhead today, in the faithful Longdendale Valley. I have an abundance of directions I walk to from around this area. Crowden as a starting point is excellent... There are so many directions to follow that you could quite easily content yourself just walking from the car park there every time you went out in the Peak District. Ordinarily I would walk over the Woodhead Reservoir f...

Devil's Bridge and Waterfalls - Wales - Ceredigion - Quiet Walk #4K #nature #countryside

A small change from the kind of thing I'd usually record on this walk. I was on a family holiday in mid Wales, and we visited this location, 'The Devil's Bridge', for a day out. I didn't expect it to be quite as all round lovely as it turned out to be! Plus it comes with a bit of folklore as to how it got it's name, which is a winner for me every time. I'll let you discover that through the vid...
Countryside lanes around Lantern Pike - Peak District #countryside #4k #nature #nationalpark

A collection of the still moments from my walk to Lantern Pike. Plenty of cow parsley being blown around against the drystone walls, along the lanes around the hillside. As well as a few still sights from Lantern pike itself and the windswept cotton grass filled fields that surround it. Plenty of natural sounds of nature to be heard here too! Birdsong, wind in the trees and grasses. And the lam...
Lantern Pike & Country lanes - Peak District - #4K #peakdistrict #quietwalks #nature #hiking

Lantern Pike is the destination for this walk. The route most people are familiar with begins in Hayfield village. But I prefer to start from Monks Road or even walk from Coombes Rocks/Cown Edge. It's far from the tallest peak in the vicinity, with Kinder Scout being almost twice it's height, and just over the road (in a way). But it is a popular walk for a good reason! As far as the height-to-...
Wildboar Clough & Aircraft Wreck - Peak District #countryside #4K #quietwalks #peaceful

For a change of pace, I thought a nice woodland walk that developed into a decent scramble would be a nice change this time. I'm sure there are plenty of people willing to give Wildboar Clough a go, but I'm also sure there are plenty of people who find this kind of place out of reach. So I thought it would work for the curious as a guide, the familiar who'd like a watch, and those unable or unw...

There were some really interesting looking rocks in this one!
Ah I'm glad you spotted them @Herbetella I was a bit disappointed to not be able to film more of them at the top as I was having issues with a motor on my gimbal, and the wind was playing havoc. But I managed a decent selection after editing all the wonky sections out.
Thats got to be one of the best ways up onto Kinder...tough in places...enjoyed watching...[ New sub ]
Thanks @atrampinthehills.841 I appreciate that! It really is an excellent way up, there's a bit of everything along the way and the views are great.
Beautiful place and a spectacular video!!!....thanks for sharing such a beauty🤗🤗
You're most welcome @susanacabo6 It's a lovely place! I'd find it hard to not visit weekly if I lived nearby. 😊
Very colourful video footage. I like & subscribed!
Thank you very much! I just subscribed to your channel after a quick look. It looks like I'd enjoy a lot of your videos.
Lovely change of video warren, nice and personal .great video 📸
Thanks very much John! Hopefully these will be more 'finishable' 😅 but I'll still be putting my walking videos together as usual.
Seen them fly over Haywood Manchester
Ah really! Maybe they were the same 2 then. The sound on here doesn't do them justice 😁
Superb! An exquisite landscape.
Thank you! It's so nice I went twice in one day :-D I recommend it highly.

This video is very good. I am a creator who introduces Korea. I want to follow you and have more exchanges!
Thank you very much @vividspace1225 I'll be sure to watch some of your videos. I'd like to see some similar walks in Korea!
it's so relaxing, it's like being there. Thank you
You're very welcome. Thanks for watching! I do try to make my videos as close to my experience there as possible, so that's nice to hear :)
Nice walk, thank you
You're most welcome. Thanks for watching!
Great pictures Warren.. I've just subscribed to your channel like the outdoors senary..is there any good camping spots near Lantern pike 🤔
Thanks very much @CB-st6bo Much appreciated!! In terms of 'wild camping' out there, there isn't a great deal of choice on Lantern Pike itself. But the field with the trees in the video at the top (west side of the peak near the drystone wall) is the only spot I would say isn't obviously exposed. Otherwise I think it would be across the way (east) to the Leygatehead Moor/Kinder side of the road. In terms of paid for campsites, I think there's only Hayfield Campsite or Chinley a bit further down the road is supposed to have a nice one, very close to Chinley Churn.
Another tremendous video warren, I was going to mention your channel on my next video because I think it's essential you get your name out there.your filming is faultless take care John 😎
Cheers John! and that's most excellent of you. I very much appreciate the boost, people are cautious with those subscriptions aren't they 😄 I caved in the other day and filmed a shorter video with my own fizzog in to see if it makes a difference. So we'll see if that costs me a few followers 😂 the quiet walks will remain my focus though!
I think for some reason Warren your channel and mine alike are getting downgraded because of viewer retention ... We will sort this and get on the right path @@WarrenofWalks
Ah ok, I suppose I'm not getting around that with hour long quiet trail videos! I should do some reading up on RUclips algorithms, seems to be more about playing the system than making genuine content doesn't it! We'll figure it out as you say... I'd still rather stick to making things I like, than pretend drama videos for clicks.
Absolutely warren totally agree, if a number of people click on then click off that's when RUclips automatically downgrade the content.i have been on here 10 years now and I have learned a lot about the logistics side.your putting out great videos and don't change anything 👍@@WarrenofWalks
Cheers John, I will do! same applies to you too, I enjoy your videos, keep making what you enjoy. Unfortunately it's what I was expecting to happen to my videos, but in a positive way. I thought they'd be useful to dip in and out of or for reference. I didn't realise it was such an awkward system of 'rules' so you aren't buried. I'll do more reading today on the details 👍
Beautiful waterfalls. Nice seeing the water flowing down the hillside.
It is isn't it. Apparently, it's a 300-foot drop with them all combined! A very nice place to be.
So beautiful waterfall and nature 🥰🌹🔔
Thank you! It is a beautiful place and the waterfall is an impressive sight.
😎
😎
Such a great scenery, ambiance is so alluring here.
Thanks @Ervinslens it's a small place with big views. I was very lucky to have it to myself!
You were brave going g through that archway!
:-D I'd have had no excuses if it fell in on me with the big sign!
Thank you for showing me this wonderful place. The view from the pavilion is reminiscent of traditional chinese paintings. Excellent for a meditative break. Great videos. I joined.
Ah thanks very much! I hadn't looked at it like that, but now you mention it I can absolutely see it. It's just missing the crane flying over! There's what might be a Red Kite flying by at one point, that might have to do :)
@@WarrenofWalks yes. I watched the video over and over again. I like the combination of the wild place and the rhododendrons blooming. Thanks for making this video.
Absolutely my pleasure! I enjoyed the whole process of making it. Thank you for watching it multiple times! It's exactly how I hoped these videos would be enjoyed.

@Renacd122 You're most welcome! And thank you very much, that's grand of you to say!
That was lovely. And really well filmed.
Thanks @Herbetella That's nice of you to say. And thanks for watching again!
You should coordinates to your starting positions in your videos so I can easily copy you're route... pleeaaase ❤
I've considered doing that lots of times. I've still not decided for sure whether I want to, or whether to leave them as simple as possible.. just as a calm and no-nonsense experience. But I can still add the start points to the description for now until I decide once and for all!
Ok, OS Maps Grid Ref is: SK 0237 9099. Or Just off Monk's Rd opposite Plainsteads Farm :-D
This looks so good, how've I never been.
It's very nice! Approaching it you wouldn't think it was tucked away there. But there's a lot to see down there in a relatively compact place. Lots of green, lots of water! :-D
A beautiful part of the country. There's something magical about overgrown weeds on narrow lanes. Great video with no distractions. 👍
@RamblingPoet Agreed! I really do enjoy the mid-spring to early summertime. Everything looks bright and fresh before anyone gets chance to chop it all back.
Lovely video warren as always top man 😎
Cheers John, I'm glad you enjoyed it. It's nice to know people who enjoy the outdoors as I do appreciate the videos!
@@WarrenofWalks definitely there's people out there it's just us small channels don't get shared out enough
Indeed, it's hard to stand out in all the noise. But I'd take a small channel's niche video over all the clickbait nonsense every time.
@@WarrenofWalks 💯 percent every time .
Such a lovely atmosphere, this was relaxing.
Thanks very much @ervinslens, mission accomplished then.
Hi, really enjoyed the natural ambient sounds and no talking so can enjoy the scenery. I was in the area recently and really like the area. What are you using to record your videos?
Ta very much @wildaboutadventure that's my goal with most of these videos, almost like a playback of how I like to enjoy them by myself. And I use a Fujifilm X-T4 to record them. It was already my photography camera, so now it's a workhorse :-D
Nice and tranquil
@freestyletowers2617 Thank you! It was an especially nice day for that walk.
Fantastic video , me and my wife have just walked a similar route today from Ashton and Mossley then via Buckton Vale and up to Alphin Pike.I'm nearly 60 and could not keep holding a go pro or other device like you do,kudos mate.
Cheers @russell4827 That's sounds an interesting route, and substantial! I bet it took in all kinds of inbetween-area views. I've walked out from atop 'Indian's Head' to Mottram, but I've not walked in from any Ashton/Mossley routes. And my camera setup is a bit of a back breaker.. it's a Fuji mirrorless camera and a gimbal with a big fluffy mic on top, it does become a mild form of torture a few hours in 😅 I appreciate the understanding!
@@WarrenofWalks I find its easier to get to the top of the path that goes from Alphin Pike to Indians head and along to Chew , by going over the moors from Buckton Castle, the hill that overlooks Carrbrook .Best wishes mate .
I've spent years wandering around those reservoirs but I've never tried that. I'll definitely give it more research and look at having a go myself. Thanks for the inspiration Russell! Best wishes to you too. And thanks for watching the video!
This brought back nice memories of my days as a geology student. My clambering days are behind me, but it was lovely to see a close up view of rocks and landforms and beautiful scenery from another part of the world.
That's lovely to hear @Herbertella I'm glad you enjoyed it! I find this kind of thing fascinating myself when it's other people's corner of the world. I do enjoy a slow detailed look around somewhere I've never been to. Especially the less well known spots. And I cut so much rock out of the video thinking it wouldn't be much interest to anyone else.. 😅
Nice walk in beautiful country
Thank you @wmanad8479, it's a very nice place for a peaceful walk
Such a soothing atmosphere my friend.
Thanks @ervinslens it's a nice secluded spot just outside the villages that surround it.

@@WarrenofWalks thank you for the share great video. 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
It is nice to see nature at walking pace x
Thanks @lillianakarapas9112! I'm trying to make these videos as close to a real quiet walk as I can.
Really enjoyed this walk, superb views. I’ve only visited Chinley Churn once, but via a different route, but this route looks much better. Where did you start from?
Thank you @drewbrown1525 I'm glad you liked it! Since my first visit I've noticed a few ways up. This one starts from the main road through Hayfield going towards Chinley. I don't think the track has a name but it's just after the speed camera on your right. If you get to the 50mph sign you've gone too far up. If you search for 'Phoside Farm' on your map of choice, it should be fairly obvious to track back to the road.
@@WarrenofWalks thanks Warren. A much quieter side of the Peaks but stunning views👍
@@drewbrown1525 it really is, a great choice for avoiding the crowds and looking out towards some of the busier sights from a distance 🙂
Just came across your channel, you deserve a lot more on your videos .keep up the great work subbed to you john 👍
Ah thanks John! That's excellent of you to say. I've had a slow couple of months with weather and work crossovers, but I've got more on the way once they're edited. Hopefully it will build to a nice archive eventually.
