Storms - Jam #79 - 4 Volcas and the Modular
This started with the Volca Modular & playing around with an old patch I was working on some months back. I ran this looping through Monsoon on the main modular set to delay mode. A gate from the Doepfer Clock Divider occasionally triggers the freeze for some nice glitches
I then used the Volca Drum to add some beats. Initially I had the drum set to 2x the speed of the Volca Modular. Once programmed, I moved this up to 3x. I split the signal and ran one through Rings to give the string effects, this then goes through the FX Aid XL which is set to a ping pong delay. The other runs into Maths which I’m using as a mixer. I combined the Volca drum with a simple Euclydian pattern from O&C which...

A quick morning #ambientmusic jam before I started work. Again, just trying to get the Volca's to sit nicely within a #modularsynth jam. Not entirely sure what genre you’d call this. Everything is made on the #ModularSynth I started by playing around with the #MakeNoiseXPO and creating some slow stereo filter sweeps. I started by playing around with a CV sequencer and running this into the model input of Plaits. Each step on the sequencer jumps to a different percussive voice. The foundation of this is 4 samples recorded on an acoustic guitar using pickaso bow which creates a cello like sound. Custom! Just some spare bits of wood nailed together. It’s not perfect but it works!

Listening to this feels like entering a dark cathedral, deep into sound's catacombs. Choral reverb and FX Aid XL create eerie atmosphere. With effects MUCH more expensive compared to the gear... Nice sounds, but makes it sense (especially for people with normal budget)?
Yeah the H9 is very expensive. I was lucky enough to pick one up second hand for roughly half price. If you want to get something like this for cheaper, have a look at EHX or TC's freeze pedals then run them into any reverb. If you're using a DAW, try out some granular synthesis plug-ins. There are a few free ones that would suit this sort of thing really well.
To add to what I said before, try the emergence plug in. It's a free granular effect and can create some wonderful sounds!
