Fox does not make 3do
Really aaaaa good review! Thanks!
One of the lowest spec’s 429’s I have seen. You should ride a well spec’s enduro and you will find just how good this bike is for a short travel trail bike. Fun riding - nice video.
Hey 1Life, nice vid and review of two very nice bikes. And, thanks for support & kind words for OTE in Fruita.
The thing that breaks me up is brakes that break 'cuz my brakes broke and I'm too broke to break down and buy new brakes. 😏 So I'm about 5 minutes into this and enjoying it, nice production quality, I just wish I could hear your voice out of both channels instead of only the left one, but I'm enjoying it and hope you mention the strengths of the 429 over the Ripley and vice versa. Thanks mate & G'dai
Best place to start and best way to ride? Thank you we are heading there in the am
Great video but you sound like kermit the frog
Have you tried the fox launch elite knee/shin?
Is the DC30 knee sleave the same as the Enduro D30 Knee Pads?
He has a link down farther to them.
What's the background music? I love me some electronic djent. I recommend Andromida. Your mono audio however ...
what bike did you end up with?
nice review. am currently trying to decide between these 2 but haven't been able to demo one since no shop near me has one. to throw a wrench into it, I was able to ride a pivot 429 and that brunch enduro package just might be the winner.
Gform are f****** garbage. First real fall with them and they tore, slid down my leg, and my knee got destroyed. I’ve worn them 3 times and they fell apart on the 3rd run. If they would have saved my knee I’d be praising them. Now I’m limping around. Garbage product, stay away.
Hahaha Gettn Sam baab.
congratulations on 100 subs keep of the good work love the channel.
About time someone else did a ride review of the ripley besides MTB yumyum. I Also saw your other video of the demo ripley in your home trails. All other videos spend an hour just going over the specs and dissecting and nitpicking the bike like everyone that rides trails is a pro. 🙄
Nice video on the Trail 429, though unfortunately for the price I was surprised it comes with a press fit BB.
Everyone gets their butt hurt about press fit BB. Yeti uses press fit and we know how cheap/bad reputation Yeti has.
Hey, I saw you were on 99 subscribers so I made it 100 congrats! 😀
Those bikes are lively as hell, sounds like shock may have been low on pressure/needed more rebound.
Enjoying your video so far. Of course you didn’t ride the Ripley on that trail but do you think you would be giving up much in climbing going with the yeti? Ken up at the wonder how that yet he would fill on blue trails.
No. From what I rode that yeti climbed very well. And was smooth and quiet. I really wanna get out one again
Do you know how much the weight of the Ripley was ?
I don’t as it was demo. I’d say pretty close to my medium mojo 3 which is 25lbs.
Curious what the real difference is on the brakes. I doubt it is SLX. I've never heard of much difference in power in the whole Shimano MTB line other than between 2 piston/4 piston or rotor size. I run 4 piston Deore on on my Ripmo AF and don't want for power. My guess is they were contaminated. Good luck in your search.
Yea could just be the demo bike I rode needed a brake job
Same here. I’ve run SLX on my Kona process for years and they’ve been solid with no issues. Bummed that the demo experience was hampered with the poor brakes!
How different is the Ripley from Mojo 3? I also have the Mojo 3 and Ripmo v2 and have considered replacing Moio 3 with either Ripley or Transition Spur but don’t know if I can justify it.
The ripley is fairly similar to the mojo 3. Both lite and poppy off jumps. Biggest difference I noticed is the Ripley feels a little bigger and is faster. Probably due to the 29’ wheels vs. the 27.5+ on my mojo. I really want to try out a sour but haven’t been able to find one to demo
@@1Life2LiveMN would you say the Ripley is different enough (better) to justify replacing the Mojo 3? I will get a chance to ride friend’s Spur (unfortunately XL instead of L) tomorrow and an anxious to find out how it compares to Mojo3.
great video--i am also a fan of ibis--i have the ibis ripmo af v2 and is it a beast!! destoroys downhills,
Thanks! Did another video on each bike in Fruita Colorado as well! The medium Ripmo was much better for me!!
How doest it feel vs the yeti sb140? Im stuck deciding between Ripmo, Yeti 140LR or Canyon Spectral CF8
I have the Ripmo. Demoed a Yeti 140 at Outerbike in Duluth. Both bikes are awesome. The 140 didn't do anything that much better than my Ripmo. You would not go wrong with either. Find the better deal and get that one.
@@chadclark2070 Thanks man!!
The E-Line is actually the most aggressive protection from G-Form, but it doesn't currently come in a knee-shin, unfortunately. They make a knee-shin of the Pro Rugged.
What did you think of the Ripmo vs. your HD5?
My Mojo is a Mojo 3. The Mojo was more like the ripley. It’s light and very poppy and playful. It’s also a 27.5 not a 29 which adds to the playfulness. The ripmo had better suspension and handed drops, and chunky fast stuff way better than my mojo. But the ripmo is more planted and stable and not as playful. I took them on another test ride in Colorado. Videos coming soon. The ripley one should drop tomorrow! Ripmo in next week.
I have a ripmo af and it is extremely poppy and playful, I would bet it's more of the upsizing of the frame. It's a bigger bike to begin with and then you went from a medium to a large on the generally bigger bike. It would be more stable going downhills but take a lot more to muscle it around on the trail. Having said that, I've ridden a Ripley as well. They're much more efficient for basic trail riding. I do find myself over biked when in cross country territory, and it can take substantially more energy getting over chunky flat tech. Good video comparison regardless
I demoed a medium ripmo last week in Colorado. Much happier on that size! But still not as poppy as the Ripley. Gonna put on videos on those soon!!
I’m like you, I’ve tried 8 pairs of pads. AliExpress, multiple fox, launch and enduro and also 100%. It really depends for me. If I’m just pedalling around and not pushing anything hard I wear a cheap pair from Ali express. How ever not very good coverage, but good enough for a low impact crash. If I’m shuttling and riding more DH tracks I wear the launch, if I’m riding hard trails but pedalling heaps I wear the enduro pads. What I will say is foxes durability on the high end pads is crap. Great protection from a crash, but wear and tear from putting them on and off they rip and tear. It has also happened on all my boys as well
That's awesome mate! 🤘🤘 (I'm a proud YETI OWNER too!)
Great video!!!
I liked it too! Well done for him :)
Ordered my Ripley from Salt. Coming tomorrow!
I demoed a ripley in Fruita Colorado 3 days ago. Loved every second of it! Video to come!!
Whatcha riding? My Ripley is arriving any day now
Ibis Mojo 3. It’s a 27.5+ 150/130 travel. Did you get the V4s? Check out my ripley/ripmo comparison video.
@@1Life2LiveMN went with the Ripley AF. Watched your comparison 3-4 times while going back and forth on ripley vs ripmo. Hope I made the right decision. I’m sure I’ll be happy. I ordered it from Salt Cycles and upgraded to the Fox Factory goodies
Being realistic with how and where I will ride, Ripmo probably just too squishy
Do you have and link?

What size do you used... fox enduro pads. Its the real fit size
“This one is more flow-ey and not as chunky”…immediately rides into massive chunk. Great video! I may have to make the trip now!
Right. I jinxed myself on that one 😂
Thanks for the review, and honest feedback. Good luck with the channel!
I’ve attended a TRS jump session. You can’t beat the rep on rep style coaching with instant feedback that RD provides. I highly recommend trying Christian Peper’s ridespicy beginner online jump course. It’s very affordable and will teach you how to diagnose your own technique. This supplement to the RD course was perfect for me.
Making a trip this fall from Washington state. This helps my decisions a lot. Thanks!
It’s an awesome ride!
POC VPD Air is fantastic. If you need a bit more protection the POC VPD 2.0 is really good. The Air is just hard to beat.
I've gone through a similar journey with knee pads and if you want breathability and comfort the dainese trailskins are the best imho.
Trailskins *Lite are the ones appropriate for MTB.
Been following rd on RUclips for years. I need to take this class. Good vid.
Thanks! Yea take it if you get the chance!
I took TRS classes then bought the MTB hopper pro and the landwave boxes/ramps. Can't wait to take classes again. The crotch cam actually is a good idea to make sure you are centered on the bike! Thanks for sharing.
That’s awesome. Keeping up with the practice is a challenge!
Took the ride series’s a year ago. Definitely made me more confident and capable rider.
Same. Just got to keep up the practice now!
The Ride Series is outstanding. Did the full three-class weekend last fall and I wish I could do it once a year. Hmmmmm.
Yea same here. I was impressed!!
got a ripley af and bumped it to 140. true ripper!
I’ve head a lot of people bump the fork up! Wish they offered an enduro version like the Pivot Trail429 does!
@@1Life2LiveMN they do, it's called the ripmo
got the ripmo af its sick
Nice! I feel like I want to give the medium ripmo another go on a burlier trail!
First
My initial research had me settled between the Ibis Ripley and the Rocky Mountain Element. Both shorter travel but very capable bikes. After the demos I found the Element to feel less substantial under me. It had a thinner frame and I could feel it. I demoed so many different bikes and the Ibis ones were super efficient and had an awesome suspension feel. The Ibis bikes also had a trait where they felt more capable than you initially thought. The Ripley could handle some serious chunk and the Exie could take plenty for being an XC bike. Turns out that most of my riding felt great even on the Ibis Exie, so I ended up buying one of those. It’s an absolute rocket ship. I’ve already set a few PRs on it. I think it’s really easy to over bike. Always consider the type of riding you primarily do and enjoy most. Ibis as a company has been awesome too. I’m surprised how much they get done with so few employees. The demo guy out here on the west coast (Curk) was amazing. Knew his stuff and was super helpful. Good video. I personally like a mix of on the bike commentary and off the bike. The intro was nice, but towards the end it may have benefited from an off the bike wrap up. Also, I’m heading over to Nashville pretty soon, so if anyone has any trail suggestions let them loose. If anyone has any questions about either of these bikes (or the buying/demoing process) let me know. I’ve gone through it all at this point.
Same. I liked that ripley over the element for sure. Thanks for the feed back and suggestions on video too! Learning as I go!!
Hey thanks again. If you have a sec hit the subscribe button. Just putting finishing touches on next video. Should drop in the next day or 2! Ride on
So you went with the Exie......over the ripley. so interesting. I'm in the middle of a ripley and ripmo. my trails are very similiar to yours, but i ride real hard and weigh bout 190. i feel like the ripley will be the best choice. i didn't think about the exie really.
I think I'd lean towards an Exie over Ripley myself. Exie has a little higher bottom bracket to help prevent pedal strikes and 67.2° head angle is a perfect compromise for tougher XC trail riding. You could even run a 130mm fork if you want to handle more aggressive riding or a 110mm fork for more XC riding. How does the frame stiffness feel compared to the Ripley?
Yea I felt the same way on the Rocket Mountain
Thx for the video. How do you learn of the demo days around the Twin Cities? Any more Ibis demo’s coming up this summer?
Go to Ibis website. They have their demo tour dates listed. They do have 1 more in MN this summer. They are going to be at outer bike fest in Duluth in August. You do need tickets to the fest to demo!
Hope you get out and demo one. If you have a sec stop by my page and hit subscribe button. Just putting finishing touches on next video. Should be dropping in a day or 2
