    Hi, do you know what might be the reason for grafted schlumbergeras' death? I grafted them in winter on Selenicereus and the transplantation was succssful 'cause they have grown beautifully for some time but then they suddenly died. I don't know why. I didn't change anything in care. Do you know what might be the reason for that and how to prevent the rest grafted schlumbergeras from dying? I would be very greatful for some advice.

    I have a beautifully variegated Schlumbergera. It is easy to propagate, but sometimes it produces pure cream colored branches. One thing I noticed is that it's not as thick and hardy as my other Schlumbergera. Side note, I don't think they're as uncommon as people think. When I was in Santiago a couple years ago a saw a Jewelry shop with a massive variegated specimen and several stores in the same neighborhood also had smaller plants. I assume they were propagated from the massive one.

    • @EpiphyticCacti

      I only keep S. lutea in semi-hydro long term. Everyone else I move to an epiphytic mix but that doesn’t mean they can’t be grown in semi-hydro long term. I think there would be some trial and error figuring out how to keep them long term though.

If you are in the US, you can try an ISO facebook post in epiphytic cacti related groups. This is your best option for finding cuttings of it as it’s mostly just in a few private collections. I didn’t get my 2nd cutting from a sale it was through a roundabout trade from a private collector. Uncommon or rarer plants in cultivation are usually obtained that way.

    How do you propergate this plant

    • @EpiphyticCacti
      @EpiphyticCacti 3 месяца назад

      Rhipsalis are pretty easy from cutting just stick the cuttings into an epiphytic type substrate in A SMALL-ISH pot, water sparingly at first, and then as normal once rooted. It typically takes 2-4 weeks for them to form small roots. If weather permits I find if I put the pot outside in a nice shaded area they take care of themselves. Just make sure to check on and shower them maybe once a week if you are experiencing dry or very hot conditions. Rule of thumb in general is less water the cooler the temperatures because it doesn’t evaporate as quickly.

    Hello friends! I live in America and these are my ingredients. 1part Worm Castings 2parts FoxFarm Ocean Potting Soil 3parts Perlite #3 (super chunky) 4parts Premium Reptibark Bedding (100% Fir bar by Zoo Med from the Reptile Aisle at Petsmart) This may be unpopular with some, but I plant in no-drainage pots... mostly glass containers. Bottom 25% is LECA (Lightweight Expanded Clay Aggregate), followed by 75% Soil Mixture as listed above. Glass containers allow me to monitor the healthiness of roots and allow me to monitor the water level, which I keep right at or slightly under the LECA line. I use this method for aroids and epiphytic cacti.
