I absolutely love the care that went into this video. The interjections to make you seem like a character in the universe, having a mental breakdown about their job; the accelerated and more stressed delivery; the dramatic music and more frantic ideas -- and then the actual content itself is A+, too. Amazing <3

With computation redstone a lot of people are now passed binary and are using hexadecimal, redstone has signal strengths from 0-15 so 16 different amounts, because of those and competitors hexadecimal systems are becoming more popular, as a computational redstoner myself I’d love to show you some of my stuff sometime, and not just a calculator but a full CPU :), also the logic you used for the adders and decoders were more complex then they needed to be but they fulfilled the same logic tables needed, you definitely have the idea though :)

The reason the saving throw distribution is so distorted that previous editions of DnD used 3 special saving throw stats: reflex, fortitude, and will. In DnD 5e they split those up into the normal 6 stats, which favored Dex, Con, and Wis. Also, I feel like one lesson the game has taught by this point is don’t group your allies super close together, or you’re gonna get fucked by aoe effects. That first turn is a lot less distressing if only one party member goes down instead of all of them

Just a quick note of appreciation for you, I found this channel like an hour ago and put it on in the background while i was cramming French (I am still, unfortunately, cramming French) but you're great ! Videos are nicely put together, the humour is funny and I like how you kinda sound like you are about to cry every second. Matches my study mood.

This is amazing. Utterly. My only question is whether as a game maker, are you also cognisant of the sociopolitical nature of the districts? District 1 and 2 are priority areas that as well as having pre-trained entrants, but they also supply citizens to form their peacekeepers. Having 1 and 2 win is useful for loyalty and prestige. One of the first issues driving Crane'd death was Katniss showing humanity to Rue, and Rue's impact changing the balance of loyalty in her district. How much is the placement driven by this, over player scores, abilities and popularity? The Hunger Games are about public control. Sure the Capitol citizens care about the entertainment factors, but how much do you adjust for things the capitol citizens know nothing about but could change the balance in districts? Especially without showing favouritism, or showing your hand as a game maker?

The Quarter Quell was even worse game design. No interaction by the game maker at all to force them together, just 12 events in fixed zones on a schedule. It's a good thing the tributes escaped when they did, because it would have been incredibly boring to watch that cycle repeat for multiple days. Also, the events are almost all extremely lethal and fill the entire zone, and the arena boundaries are both lethal and invisible so tributes will sometimes die at random from a navigation error. I bet more tributes died from the arena than from their fellow competitors.

What does the mole get if everyone else is eliminated? If it's just the money, they aren't actually incentivized to sabotage anything. Also, I feel like the game being rigged in favor of the mole makes sense for the show, but isn't very good for an actually fun game. Maybe there's a way to modify it so that they must stay detail oriented or risk getting knocked out themselves. Maybe give the mole a different quiz than everyone else.

One factor for audience enjoyment that no game maker has considered is scenery. The capital’s citizens are rather superficial and a more appealing arena would likely improve their approval. Why not place them in an attic retreat with a starry sky. One half will be in summer in a state of infinite day and the other half in infinite night and after the end of each day the meridian of the seasons will shift thirty degrees. Everyone is on a block of ice that gradually melts over time bringing them closer to the center. They would be surrounded by a pod of orcas and sparse small weak fish and giant electric eels. Players would have the option to communicate with the orcas and have them swim under their enemies to weed out competition by swimming under them but it could reduce pathways between players too.

this was delightful, but i really want to see the conclusions that came from your simulation and data! I hope there is a part 2 to this. I feel like you buried the lede here, the first half is all good points but the second half is really where it's at. re the hunger games: obviously there are a lot of other complex elements you did not really address, such as the 'fan participation' in the form of sponsors, and I think while it is fair to say that game makers should not kill contestants, throwing in curve balls to keep things interesting is very important. I think the fact that the map is changed by dramatic action is one of the more interesting parts of the game, as a 'viewer'.

When I play TT RPGs I take roleplayer/scientist dichotomy, crumple it into a ball and eat it. I love role-playing my characters, the thing is: I make most of them scientists! I'll creating a character I find complex and interesting who's primary motivation happens to be a deep seeded fascination with some aspect of the world they live in. I will then spend the entire campaign fanning the fire of character's hyperfixation through any means available, both mechanics and role-play. One of my recent D&D characters was an artificer/druid who poured ever once of her 20 int into finding new ways to create bioengineered monstrosities. I would alternate back and forth between role-playing her conducting a thorough autopsy on the monster we just killed to learn the secrets of its anatomy and haggling with DM about which of its powers that knowledge lets her copy and imbue into her creations.

want to be a bit more SoB? modify the terrain to guide the players, or some players, so they prefer to go in one direction instead of another. for example a player that it's used to hunt in a forest will go to a forestal area instead of a rock mountain. by setting the areas and players in a specific way you can ensure where the players will go so you can force them to meet the players you want. be them teammates or enemies. you can also be as unfair as you want when deciding were and what resources are deployed. above all. don't tell any player where will the others start. a couple extra things: 1. instead of having a single point to focus the most valuable resources, put other smaller, but relevant, cornucopias between the starting areas of the players. about each third of the radius. 2. put some sort of barrier arround the arena that slowly shorten the radius of the arena. this way the players can't stay hiden in a relatively safe area. going to the center is dangerous, staying for too long at the perimeter is also dangerous. will you hurry to get the best resources, stay safe until you have a solid plan or stay safe for as long as you can? all three spell trouble. the only question is which trouble you prefer.

Another underrated part of the Cornucopia which you neglected is that 24 players are imply too many to tell a good narrative. Killing off many of the weakest people early ensures the remaining can fit into a good story for the rest of the show.
