When I first started going to the gym back in 1994, I did it because I wanted to lose fat because I gained a lot of weight after I got the Army! So I never really cared about lifting weights. But after I lost 105 lbs of fat,I started to gain muscle and I had no idea I was good at it and my genetics kicked in! But like any gym you go for a couple of years, you will be offered to use steroids. And I was 28 and a guy who was in his 40s and always worked out alone put me on the side and told me to never use steroids because I was going to regret it! I'm glad I listened to him! I won't deny that it gets tempting to take the shorcut but the price to pay is too high!!!

I was very independent growing up and I my Dad taught me backpacking skills. I once went backpacking in the high Rockies (I live in Colorado) with a friend. What started out as a week over the summer turned into three weeks. We just stayed up there. At one point we couldn't stand each other's smell. We found a glacier fed lake near Mt Zirkel and we stood there on the shore of the lake in our boxer underwear. The cold wind blowing on our backs (it was July) as we shivered. We'd throw rocks at each other in jest about how we smelled. Then we jumped in. It was the fastest and most refreshing bath of my life. I went under and when I came back up I had to knock away some soft slushy ice. When we crawled out of the water shivering the mountain air felt like a hair dryer because of the change in temperature. there was a county park near me when I was a little kid that we would go to on weekends and during the summer to have picnics or go swimming or fishing. They had wooden out houses that were nothing more than a wooden shed over a hole in the ground with a toilet seat… they all smell the same.. these were not plastic, Porta, Johns, these were permanent wooden structures.. that’s just the way it was back in the 60s. I don’t know what they did once the waist inside these holes in the ground got all the way up to the toilet seat. But I’ve seen a few of them that were close… I myself would never use one of them. At least I was lucky enough over the decades to never have an emergency call of nature where I had to reuse one, but there’s always the Woods.

The sad thing is that everyone in the community knows that the competition look is incredibly unnatural and unhealthy due to the desire to reduce subcutaneous body fat and show off the definition in the muscles. This is a dangerous condition that damages all body builders. On the use of Performance Enhancing Drugs it is my view that because they are illegal there is great reluctance for users to disclose their use to medical professionals who can help keep them alive.
