This was excellent young man, and thank you
I appreciate that greatly!
2gether forever! <3
Really enjoyed this, thank you! Will certainly watch it again :)
St James Infirmary was first performed by Louis Armstrong and first group in New Orleans which is why the song contains the melodies that it does
Man every time i hear the name Michael Bolton i think of the movie Office space lol but Jeffs music is so amazing and deep theres times where im completely all Jeff but then some songs hit something inside, a feeling and its weird and so hard to describe. I graduated high school in 96 and Jeffs music took time to really get and now that im older hes definitely one of my favorite musicians ever, hes on another level. Great video thank you, RIP Jeff 🙏
And I thought I knew a lot about Cab! I was mistaken. Thank you.
Betty Boop is So Cute & Voluptuous. The Original Cartoon Bombshell. 😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍
This channel is a gem, great stuff
As a friend and colleague of JB, I can say he and his life was NOT tragic. His untimely accidental death does not define him, at all. This and a number of other falsehoods seems to have riddled your “reportage.” What is sad is westerners morbid tendency to celebrate real influencers (not the ones who self proclaim themselves as such with social media - JB was all that and more before laptops became so ubiquitous: he did it the hard way and toured the western world multiple times, a man of action and real work.) A certain inaccuracy is the fact that JB had assembled the “Grace Band” over two months ( not “weeks” which is misleading and one can say that a number of weeks makes for a year) before going to Bearsville in Woodstock, NY. It was tight timing, but JB knew what he wanted and was able to find it in time. Yes. His father died of accidental overdose, confusing smack for cocaine, but JB never had much of a relationship nor his undivided attention except for, as he put it, a “glimpse.” Had he not died, they most likely wouldn’t have gotten close as there was much resentment over his TB’s passivity and evasion of responsibility. “The missing father” theme is nothing new in many stratums of western culture and is sadly as common as the cold. Jeff was a happy sort of guy people gathered around and he had the “gift for the gab.” He also had a great deal with Columbia Records and was able to have creative control regarding audio recordings during the course of his life - that changed when he died and CR was able to release works he did not want revealed. That is just the reality of the “death clause” that is part of most every recording contract. He had a number of great relationships with women ( bar his final relationship with Joan in which she has proved to be opportunistic to boot) and he had a solid set of friends and many levels of intimacy with the people who were attracted to his personality and craft, among other components. What you have here is more misleading clickbait that does not do you nor certainly Jeff, my friend, any favors. Bloody presumptuous misguided muckraker you are. This is highly irresponsible, but, as always, what goes around comes around for you lot.
Man. What in the hell are you going on about????
@@HeardItInALoveSong What am I am going on about is the misleading title of your video which states his life as “ tragic.” Are you thick? He was a friend of mine and I resent your third hand take on his life that was anything but tragic….man! His death was tragic.
Dude wtf ?
Set me free album would have been a huge hit in the house music scene at the time. I wish it was officially released.
So the whole Madonna music video was just cause she had a kink for black men?!? I was thinking, how progressive. That seems really screwed up to me. Is it just me?
The analysis for the song "From Eden" starts at 17:27
Hated when that song was in a catsup commercial.
One of the greatest albums ever made. Amazing job on this video. Should have millions of views, one day it just might.
🤢🤢🤮🤮🤮
This is a great video! Thanks for taking the time to make it. The first version of this song I ever heard was by the Preservation Hall Jazz Band. Be sure tonche k that one out too.
This was really really good cover on not only the cartoon character and Baby Esater but Cab. Well done.
Thank you so much this doco....I was shedding tears in the end...some happy, some sad....Jeffs passing was the biggest loss for the music industry in the 90s....he wasn't as prolific as a songwriter like his dad, but he was the most influential and naturally gifted than his dad!!! There was a time in my life that I only listened to Jeff only, everything from his work, for over 2 years!! Even now I go back to Jeffs music for a stretch of time....the man may be gone, but not his music!! RIP my man!!
Idk but 60th comment
The shame about shooting stars is they shine and flash so quickly then gone ..
Hope more people will discover this excellent video. <3
As a younger person (30) who loves big band, thank you SO MUCH for this! We are quickly approaching the time where old people who remember this are leaving us. The early 1900s in america is not covered enough. If you zoom out enough, there is a strong argument that Jazz was the #1 music of the past 100 years. Going to go watch blues brothers tonight.
Thank you for taking the trouble to make this wonderful documentary. Nothing like this is covered in the main stream media. Anything about modern development of music. (apart from the BBC radio) when are they going to make a winning Movie on this important era. greetings from Yorkshire.
Tupac Shakur a 90's hip hop artist used to listen to this song
What a great video! Will definitely watch your channel more often!
lovely video. i absolutely adore hozier and his work, you did a wonderful job covering him
I'm going to blow a guess out here that someone knows 100% who she's referring to 😂
The last album was to be titled simply My Sweetheart The Drunk...only after his death and subsequent compiling of unfinished songs was "Sketches for" added.
Great video! This is one of my favorite songs.
It's timeless isn't it?
@@HeardItInALoveSong Great point. It really is!
Keith was my cousin
Man. Sorry for your loss. He was ahead of his time
@@HeardItInALoveSong my mom met him, when she was a little girl, he used to come to visit and his father was sick when his wedding happed so my grandfather filled in for him.
Nice misinformation about Putin. He's not anti gay, he's anti sterilizing children and anti Frankensteining kids.
Wow I really enjoyed this. Thank you :-)
I appreciate that a lot. I'm glad you enjoyed!
More than 10% of this video is the INTRO. Good lord.
🙄
oh-so-noble comments on past racism, yet images used are of a white insurance salesman and 2 white babies by second marriage. try consistency! or maybe 2nd husband was white!? come off it man!
Oh this is amazing and thank you for sharing this. I’ve been a huge fan of Jermaine’s for a loooooong time. The world losing him, his music and talents is a major loss. I’m glad to see you (a few others as well) are bringing light to his story. Thank you once again. ❤️🥹
What's with the "this guy stinks" shit??
Bit: a joke, gag, or punchline made for comedic affect and of no substance whatsoever. Often clever, but not terribly meaningful.
your voice is so annoying -- it ruins the video
I can’t believe this is two years old and only has 292 likes. There’s an insane amount of work in this video, from image research to editing and writing a script. Lots of valuable information presented in an entertaining format. What’s wrong with this world?
This honestly made my week. Thank you so much
apparently he recorded a bunch of voicemails for people he hadn’t seen or talked to in years in the weeks leading up before his death
source of information???? i refuse to believe this is real:(
@@camilapoveda4684there are a lot of articles where his friends and family state that he left them voicemails, for example he sent one to his ex girlfriend rebecca moore
@@camilapoveda4684 Exactly, the messages he left are no sign of anything more. Yes, he was a friend of mine and JB would do that from time to time as he knew people from all over so. Cal and NYC as his mother was often moving to find work in the area. It seems that true reflection is an anathema to some and people take the easy option to judge and evaluate his life and character of which they have no experience. Too many project in the comments section and confuse their response to their tragedy with someone completely different and made of a fabric that is rare.
Thank you for this. For the record, though, at min 28 you repeat a common misunderstanding about Irving Mills (Joe Primrose's) and the famous court case over authorship of St. James Infirmary. The case never went to the U.S. Supreme Court. It did however go as high as the top court in New York State, the Court of Appeals. But Mills's music publishing companies didn't win the case there, they lost, their complaint dismissed on its face, after years of litigation. However, by that time Mills's companies had persuaded the major record labels to license the song from them, so that "Joe Primrose" and later Irving Mills continued to receive composition credit for this obviously-traditional folk song for decades thereafter. Mills is the same Irving Mills you mention earlier as Cab Calloway's manager. He managed Duke Ellington, too, co-writing, or at any rate receiving credit and royalties, for many of his big hits as well.
Oh wow. This is such great information. Thank you for this. Truly
Why are we all skipping over the director's thought process (fr how did any of those thoughts even happen in succession)
I recall in 1997 seeing a small item in the newspaper reporting that Jeff Buckley had gone missing after wading fully clothed into the Mississippi. I knew who Jeff Buckley was as I knew who his father had been and was aware of his music. I was aware of "Grace" and the impact it had made but had yet to hear it. A few days later there was an equally small newspaper item reporting that his body had been found near Beale Street. Sadly, that began my introduction to the music of Jeff Buckley.
Thank you for making this video!
You can really tell Danny Elfman is a fan with Oogy Boogy♡♡♡
St. James Infirmiry is one of my favorite songs. So cool to see the history behind it
Wow, you did a excellent job you should win some type of award. I like you sporting that zoot suit. Real nice. Keep up the good work. Oh yeah, there is a church in Toledo OH named st. James infirmary always thought that was odd.
His life was anything but tragic. Who are you muckrakers? It was his that could be defined as tragic - not his life!!
