Happy retirement to you both and thank you xx
Nice one Burnley.
Fantastic, thanks to everyone who turned up and special thanks to Darwen Brass. No doubt you had a few Rovers fans in your ranks but what a great day to come together.
im annoyed ive just seen this as a padiham woman born and bread, they took over the shop when i was 16 but there wasnt anything you couldnt get in that shop. Happy Retirement you will be missed and hope the shop can continue but will not be the same xx
Used to pay entry just to play hide and seek with my pals in there it was brilliant.. The roller disco was ace!! The summer club .. Everything was brilliant about it ..Can't stand St Peters centre it's rubbish in comparison.. Love Thompson Park too. I was so lucky to have those on my doorstep... If it's not broke don't try n fix it !! .🤔🙄 Thank you Mr Thompson... you made many children make very good memories 🫂
4 candles.
Last day today. Loved this shop. Thankyou Eric and carol and the dogs. We will miss you love Izzi and Elijah
Thanks for this - popped into the shop yesterday to offer my thanks and best wishes for the future - they will be missed!
Wonderful... Thank You 😍
I was three when this was made lots of changes and people gone sadly missed
Why was mr Thompson not invited to the foundation stone laying. What happened to the Muriel shame it’s gone full circle now a carpark. St Peter’s has taken over and it still leaking that’s why the pool is constantly cold
The stone sculptures that surrounded the walls of the Thompson Centre are now on the Crow Wood Health spa complex.
@@burnleyfilmmakers1582It is a great piece of modern art .
@@burnleyfilmmakers1582 that’s good they should name the carpark Thompson after him as it was a shame it went and St Peter’s is not a patch on it
@@joanbideau1375 I heard they brought the artist down to see it it’s near the football pitches

us to go there in 1960s whern it was a cinimam
2.34 worked on ss45 in the 80s .Sadly scrapped .never new she was all black at one time.
Golden, St.Ives has been over run by the rich now
How I would like to hop back to 1976 🙏🏻 RIP Janet and Jeff . Thank you for those long holidays at Chapel Porth . Miss you terribly 🙏🏻 Cornwall is in my heart and DNA
Best sports facilities around. Shame Lucas fell apart, the social side, both sports and the club near the bus station were always busy.
I lived in St.Ives from the 1940's. The richness of the place was not so much the views, but in the 100's of fishermen whose livelihood was the sea. Some of these hardened seamen were born in the late 19th century and their tales, tall or otherwise, transfixed us open-mouthed lads; (the painting. 'The Boyhood of Raleigh' is an example).Because of the nature of their work, they rarely kept still on land, forever pacing to and fro as if restless to get out to sea again.
Fantastic place. I used to play football and Cricket there.
Dingles couldn't even get their scarf the reet way up.
Doesn't look like there was a window in the place! No natural light.
My father was the manager of the Empire Cinema up to 1956. It was occasionally used for live theatrical performances at week ends. I used to wander around the upper balcony and film projection box which wasn't open to the public. Happy days!
Really enjoyed watching, very interesting. Thankyou
If you stand at the top of pendle hill on a clear day you can see Blackpool tower 🗼 it really is a fantastic view of the area. The last time I was at the top of pendle hill I met a American couple and an Australian couple and they were stunned at the beauty of the area. ♥️😃👍🏻
I caught a glimpse of my dad at the cine club meeting, checking out the food (naturally😂) I'll clip it and send it to my mum if that's ok. Dad died in 2007. RIP Bryan.
Great video . However for those that reconigised recently the plandemic was all about control and only benefited those corrupt wef politicians with their stocks n shares in big pharma will realise foot n mouth was born out of similar lies and corruption. Like covid , it was amazing how foot n mouth was here one day and gone tmoz. Fact is it was all about control and millions benefited from it. Much history within the town as been destroyed by local councils who have a remarkable ineptitude towards the position they hold and businesses since the plandemic lockdowns like local pubs have gone down the drain just like the padiham floods of 2001 . When people see our recent history its declining unfortunately and all by design. Townley hall and GAWTHORPE ground are a shadow of what they were and town centre will slowly die to just like the market. People need to wake up and realise the system is broken. People have the power in every town...let's start using it.
This brings back memories, especially mayor making at the town hall and the opening of Bourne. My mother was Vera Selby and Eric Selby my step father. Sadly no longer with us.
at 29:45 My step father used to play the piano in the Duke of York in his younger days.
Had a school swimming lesson on the Friday before it shut, I remember they gave us an extra five mins in the pool. Trying to find the exact day it shut, if it was that Friday then seven year old me was one of the last people to use the pool. It was a nice place, St Peters wasn't some massive upgrade over it. Really wasn't a fan of the communal changing room though...
53:50, now this is a throwback, was pretty young at the time but I can remember walking through this
It sounded great at Brighouse.
Great video, remember playing 5 a side their after work in the mid 90s. Sadly by then it did need some modernisation, still such a loss. Ironic it went back to being a carpark!!!
lol @ Burnley planners...replace a car park with a Sports Centre (Thompsons Recreation Centre), then knock it down to put it back to a car park but ALSO knock a multi-storey car park down and replace it with...............................a Sports Centre. No wonder our Council Tax is so high...
English mainland? Argh!
For a second with the narrators accent, I thought we were going on a trip tut Yorkshire Dales. I grew up in Cornwall and in the seventies Cornish accents abounded. Then, in the eighties when property prices were low compared to elsewhere in the country, folk would abandon their Brummie estates in favour of a slice of paradise. The older Cornish generation died out and the younger locals couldn’t afford to live there, sadly having to move into the Brummie estates. Nowadays, hearing a Cornish accent is like finding a unicorn horn…..virtually impossible. Identity is being lost in favour of second homes and celebrity chefs restaurants. Someone mentioned in the comments how good it would be to have a Time Machine. I couldn’t agree more.
One or two of us still here!
This video could have only been made better if it had the narration of a local Burnley man with thick accent!
Superb video, makes me think of a much more peaceful, safer time. Love old England/
That seems to me to be a particularly nice sounding organ. Maybe it's the acoustics of the building or the excellent recording. I love Saltaire but never knew about the move from Brighouse. Will definitely try to organise a visit
I feel sad looking back at these times with fond memories. Oh to own a time machine.
The carving is now at crow wood
My dad like to caption the photos he took - He captioned a photo of himself emerging from the sea at St Ives "You too could have a body like mine !" :D
These videos are great ! Super nostalgic
I didn't think this would be posted so quickly! I've been watching the Newsreels over a few months even years now and was looking forward to the new one! Thanks for all the work and documenting, not just history but the people who make it.
That Blackburn moment is brilliant!
Great film. I visited St Ives and the West Country for the first time when I was 21 years old. I, and my mate were camping. It was red hot and the shower water was being rationed because of the drought the weather caused. Fantastic memories.
Long may this lovely organ continue to entertain.
From which location have you taken these shots ?
It was all shot in Towneley using a 4K Sony camcorder.
And now it is a car park
I used to go there as a 7 or 8 yr old when it was a cinema with my grandma to watch Elvis and Norman wisdom films lovely building and memories😁
Happy memories ! I remember going to see Fantastic Voyage there on the big screen
@@burnleyfilmmakers1582 Raquel Welsh who sadly died this year aged 83 i bet you were in the front row lol one million and one bc too what a beautiful woman
Thank you brilliant job love to all
