521 got a little lost and somehow found its way to Sydney. The layout is the ACT Model Railway Society's award winning 'Yendys' layout at the Kaleen Model Rail Expo in Canberra. The loco is a Model design studio 520 class urethane kit with a heavily modified bachman spectrum USRA light mountain mech. The tender is scratch built from styrene and it is running a TCS WOW sound decoder with 2 speak...

The layout is 'Yendys' which is owned by my club, The ACTMRS and is based loosely on outer suburban Sydney, It also featured on the cover of the DEC 2013 AMRM with a couple more pics inside. The loco Is a Footplate models C32 class built by myself and is fitted with a TCS WOW decoder with chuff sync cam. I have also fitted headlight, marker lights, cab light and firebox flicker light.

Perfect choice of music
S A had some good locomotives I'm a NSWelshman, think we should have bought 700 class instead of 58 and 59 class. Vic R class NSW now has one. Queensland BB 18 1/4. good loco so to WA V.
VR and SAR on top
❤❤
This video is fabulous. The quality of the filming is outstanding. Cheers.
Brilliant, we are indebted to the folks who used to spend their time recording history. I always love the little tooters that were used in shunting yards and also the industrial engines such as those from Newcastle and Port Kembla steelworks. Love the Spirit but would have been great to see the end car with the rounded end of parlour car.
Great to see rare colour film of the streamlined S on the Spirit of Progress as well as all the other historic footage. Some more rare S coverage with round end parlour car here : ruclips.net/video/1jqO8Kr2_fs/видео.html
A great little video

A wonderful era indeed! The S class on the Spirit of Progress @ the end was magic!!l can remember my father taking me & my older brother down to Pascoe Vale station trackside to see the last broad gauge run of the Spirit of Progress hauled by steam back in 1962, a vivid memory.
Some more rare S coverage here : ruclips.net/video/1jqO8Kr2_fs/видео.html Do you recognise where in suburbia this was taken ? Or where this where this vids was?
Great video ! I don’t suppose you’ve got anything of the Geelong to Queenscliff branch line do you ? When I was a kid the salt and fish train used to pass the end of our street every afternoon and I’d love a video to show the children and grandchildren.
Glad to see Polly
Don’t get upset but the music makes me sad so would you be so kind to not add that music again?
TSM SEB I usually turn down the volume, sometimes the music is aweful.
this video is good
Brought a tear to my eye. So many memories. Thank you for posting.
Very nice indeed
would have been epic watching trains come in and leave adelaide station in the 50's and 60's
So good those North Melbourne shoots are excellent and the spirt wow Australia of old 😀
Well thank you for posting some of the video " Forgotton Flims" I had never heard of "Belbin" before I watched this short piece. I am a South Aussie and seeing the old Semaphore line in this brings back memories, thanks again for posting this little gem.
YOU NOTICED SEMAPHORE RD TOO I CALLED THE MRS IN TO SHOW HER
@@InsomniacMechanic Onya mate, those were the days
Without too bias because I live in South Australia but I reckon both the SAR and VR had the best steam locomotives in Australia. Long live Broad Gauge Steam. Fantastic footage, love those 520s. Here's hoping for a spectacular return for loco 520 in the not too distant future. Great video, more more more MORE please.
Your not biased you speak the truth, SAR & VR had the best old railcars too ! VR had the Derms and SAR had 75 & 55 class Brills.
Agreed. 3801 is great and all, but nothing will ever top the SAR’s 520 and VR’s S class.
As a South Aussie, I defs feel it. Although, I gotta say some classes in particular like the Ws, 38s ect. are pretty cool too
@@nathandunn5076 There are some really good looking loco around Australia. The W class are one of those reliable, do anything anytime loco but I got a soft touch for the heavier V class. Very baulky and handsome even for a Mikado but totally let down by the tiny tender with THAT ridiculous freight wheel bogies. So wrong. The 38s pretty good, powerful barking exhaust beat. The AC16 from Queensland seem like impressive. being Baldwin built but nothing can come close to the broad gauge of SAR and VR. Love the sole H class HeavyHarry, impressive looking but totally let down by the ancient looking mesh like cowcatcher. So wrong. I do like the S class but not the streamline version.....I also dig the X class Mikado, and the simple but robust K class. But, trying not to be bias about it, but the SAR system had the best looking of them all. I know I know some people will not agree.....but just cannot beat the so called Webb engines. Islington own 720 Berks, the 620 class and the MOST impressive of them all, the 520 class. Throw in the Rx class, the F class..... they are so much better to look at. Anyway I think I have said enough. Now I will wait for the firestorm coming my way from outrage fans.....
Don't forgot the 600s! I think it sad none of those were spared. There also seems to be less footage of them compared to the other style mikado + mountain engines. That's said there are so many more round the traps that are good locos like you mention
If only that is true. Interestingly even thou the 520s can be converted to standard, it is still impossible to run a 520 class into the NSW system because of the size of cylinders. Both the SAR and VR system have generous pistons but the NSW locos, even the mighty garrets, the 38s etc they all have smaller cylinders due to certain restrictions i.e. the old English type platforms. This is why, to make up for the smaller pistons, the 38s had the highest working steam pressure in Australia at 245psi. However for todays condition I believe 3801 has been 'detuned' to 215 psi however 3830 still has a '245' boiler.
Absolutely fabulous!
Brilliant footage, I've never seen colour film of a Victorian S class streamliner at the head of The Spirit of Progress before and the S.A.R. stuff looks pretty unique as well. Thanks to the poster and whoever made the original films.

What match are you shooting?
